Where? No point bringing him in if it's not in the middle. Who does he diaplace?
Maybe try him out of position in a pressure type role? we know he can win the ball and kick a goal. It might be a way to force his way back into the team, given our midfield is now stacked. But I get your point, we don’t need a team full of midfielders in for the sake of it if it doesn’t work!

Pressure and defensive intent are his biggest flaws so selecting him in a pressure role is probably the worst way to get him into the team.

It's been discussed at great length on here that one of the biggest things holding Dow back from senior selection - along with defensive efforts - is his inability to play anywhere but midfield. He's been tried as a forward and winger and has left everyone wanting.

Unfortunately unless he's coming in to play on ball we can't find a spot for him - we've tried that and we can't find one.

When the game was in the balance during the final term, Dow had little/no impact and struggled to apply pressure from what I saw.

That's not to discredit his game, however it also doesn't improve what our senior team are lacking. Leading a midfield will benefit him more than playing 6th fiddle for now.

He probably doesn't fast on gameday. If you can't fast due to work or something, you can make up a day afterwards. I would assume that's what he's doing.

When Saad was with Suns he followed Ramadan rules on game day (no drink, food until sunset). Not ideal when the game is played during the day to say the least. I don't know these days.

Blues would be smart to rest him and prepare for next game. Not many players performed well in first game after covid especially when released from isolation just a day before game.

It should be close to ideal conditions at 4:10pm. Yes, quite warm, 25-26 degrees, but dry without slippery night game crap.

Shame really. Maybe then he becomes trade bait at the end of the year? In which case he would need some seniors game time to boost his trade value! He def won’t want to hang around playing vfl for too long.

Or maybe if there’s another covid out/ or injury in the middle he comes in and gets a chance that way, but even when Cerra was out he didn’t get a spot.

My other thought was given we ran out of steam big time on the weekend against the hawks, we could use his leg speed?
Maybe give him one more shot at an out of position role. He seems to be growing and evolving steadily in the twos. Just a thought.

Cerra was swapped with Walsh in fairness.

At this point he's probably injury cover or rotation for soreness. I don't think there's been a line put through his name by any stretch just yet, but we actually have a solid group of mids now instead of just Cripps & Walsh.

Voss/the rest of the team finding the best way to utilise Kennedy probably is what's keeping him out. Kennedys rise has been amazing and unfortunately for Dow that's probably his best spot - specialist impact contest/clearance mid on managed minutes to maximise his influence.

He'll get his chance for sure, there'll be some time through the season where 1 or 2 guys will be nicked, suspended or even managed here than there. Until then he'll need to bide his time and be patient, and be ready to pounce when his chance comes.

So ...

Out: Pittonet (inj), Durdin (Covid), Plowman, Boyd
In: Saad, McDonald, Martin, Stocker

Sub: Newnes

Young McDonald Williams
Docherty Weitering Saad
Hewett Kennedy Cerra
Martin C Curnow Silvagni
Owies McKay Fisher
De Koning Cripps Walsh

Int: Newman O'Brien Setterfield Stocker

Don’t see the benefit.

If you push Walsh or Cerra to the wing it’s a different role, they’re much more impactful as midfielders.

Agreed. 5 pure on-ballers in the side last week vs 4 the previous 2 weeks provides diminishing returns.

Yes, you have more variety and keep them fresher, but 2 players always out of their element, potentially playing roles that specialists will do better.

Add Dow and you have 6 pure mids - yes Cripps and Kennedy can push forward, and Walsh / Cerra could play wing. But does the team benefit? Dees famously had Brayshaw go to the wing last year, but it's usually a wash.

Maybe, but its a marginal benefit. Handy to have 6 gun mids in the seniors rotating through roles and if 1 or 2 are injured, replace with specialists. But then the guns mids are used to playing on ball for 65 minutes and need to be able to do 100 minutes.

Ultimately you'll lose a good mid or will have (good) management problems eg Dogs because 6 gun pure mids are too many for a team.

Pitto isn't confirmed out yet is he?

Also that would be replacing a ruck, small forward and two defenders with a medium forward and 3 defenders.

Cant see stocker coming in after only 1 vfl game.

If pitto out, more likely Fog comes in to go shorter in forward like with tdk ruck and jsos support ruck.

No Pitto isn't confirmed out. I'm just guessing he may be. If he's not, I'd give McDonald another week off and still add the extra runner.

If he is, then I'd rather go for run as a replacement and use McDonald or Silvagni as second ruck as required.

Stocker went well in the VFL and given it's only round 4, it's not like everyone has a season of match fitness behind them. He was incumbent 22 and he can go into the midfield rotations or replace Doc who is playing higher up towards the wing anyway. The other option is Dow who is an inside mid, when we have 5 mids capable of doing it better in the side.

I did agonise over this one, but Stocker has more strings to his bow and is no shrinking violet. If it came down to which player we want to get games into to ensure they didn't leave at the end of the season, it's Stocker for me.

Dow as sub gives us cover if one of the big 5 gets injured, touch wood.

Wouldn’t be surprised if either of Cottrell or Newnes came in.

Both are suited to Metricon.

The greasy conditions if it becomes a get the ball forward at all costs type of game? I did think of Newnes as a sub for his run. Been ripping it up in the twos.

I think it's about time for all our players to get their own homes.
Hope Harry and Weiters don't share.

If it wasn't for covid, I would ensure these two lived together.

They're arguing over what to watch on TV. So you throw the remote up in the air and watch Harry jostle for front position as Weiters gets a last-moment fist in the way.

Keep ringing the doorbell and watch them do repeat sprints down the corridor.

Drop things on the floor and watch as they fight for the 'ground ball'.

The training opportunities are endless! :p

If we are any good we win this and comfortably.
We should but I understand the OP, for the past decade, whenever we go on a run or find a game we should win, we absolutely shit the bed.

See games against the suns, Adelaide, north, Collingwood (last year), Essendon in 2016...

I reckon we've started to beat that lazy attitude but the club has a lot of trust to make up.
