The midfield is what'll be the key here...

Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewitt, Kennedy. Throw in stints from Setterfield, Fisher, Martin, and LOB that's kinda handy. Wonder if Dow might be a smokey for his burst.

What I do love is that Kennedy, Walsh, Cripps and Cerra can all hit the scoreboard quite frequently in recent times. Will be an intriguing game and one that a victory for us will really take another step in the team erasing some mental demons.

Imagine being our selection committee at the moment? We have Cerra & Martin sitting on the sidelines but who do we omit? Can't say anyone actually deserves to be omitted, oh what a problem to have! we have not had this problem for a long time. Here is my crack of what we may do ..

In: Cerra, Martin
Out: Fog, Fisher

Any news on O'Mac? Hopefully he gets up, felt like we struggled down back when he went down. If he doesn't get up L. Young comes in for him.
I'm where you are mate. It's such a tough call. Def the easy one is fog out for martin and young for omac if he doesn't come up.

But who does cerra come in for? (he will come in).

He is comfortably ahead of fish, obrien and setters and could even replace newman with setters becoming newman, walsh to setters wing and cerra into the middle.

But I'm leaning to your thinking. Fish was good, but I think setters and obrien were better and in positions we need to develop more. I know he hasn't been at his potential level, but if we can get setters really up and firing and confident we really have a player because his ceiling is very high. I personally get irritated by players that have that laconic nature and don't look like they're trying as much as others (mark waugh cricket style), but sometimes they're just trying in their way. Setters is a tough match up and really coming into his own.

I think it's either fish out and cerra onto HHF or it's newman out, and kennedy/setters to bench.

Love that it's so hard to make a call.

PS: Yes i know we could easily remove owies/durdin too and put fish in their spot but i am loving this like for like thing vossy has got going. No more trying to play dow as a small forward and wondering why he underperforms. I think motlop eventually replaces owies and durdin has this spot until another steps up more.

Anyway. Great post. Im seeing things similar to you

Cripps and Nash?
Walsh and Ward
Hewett and Titch
Kennedy and Newcombe
Ceres and O’Meara

No tags just matchups.

Cripps and an Irish convert with 30 games to his name and a career disposal average of 10 per game?
Walsh and an 18yo 3rd gamer who at least gets a bit more of the pill than the Irish bloke?
Hewett and one of the the comp's most noted seagulls?
Kennedy and a kid with 8 games to his name whose claim to fame is that he's second to the ball a lot?
Cerra and one of the best young mids in the comp with some of the worst old knees?

Mate, those matchups are awful for you.

Gunston's gonna need to kick 20.

Im very interested to see the outcome of the Voss Vs Michell strategizing and game plan manipulation.
Michell will become a very good coach has potential, for promising carrie.
Keep our fingers crossed that Vossy can inspire the boys to do better still,
Go Blues.

I think Durds and Owies team together well to provide great forward pressure, they should be the first and second small forwards picked.
So then it is either going to be Martin or Fish, think Martin might get less possessions, but causes more damage and tackles ferociously.
LOB and Setters are improving each week on the wings.

Important to note that the Hawks kicked 9 goals from attacks started from within their defensive 50 against Port. That might be an inditement on port but its something that we need to keep an eye on.

Not sure that we have a natural match up for gunstan. Not sure that it's within Mitch's wheelhouse to sacrifice the offensive nature of his game. Might nearly play weiters on him and omac/young for Mitch Lewis.

We sort both of those things out and I think that we win.

How many of ours were the other night?

Will be interesting to watch the back 6 develop as a unit this season. Omac barely played a game last year, McGov was in the forward line (when he could play), Williams was in the midfield at the start etc. 2 games in, and it’s looking promising.

Do yourself a favor and head over the the Hawks board. Summary of the conversation so far:

  • They have our mids covered,
  • Weitering is vulnerable 1:1 and hear goal,
  • Their tall fwds are ahead of ours (they have kick more goals in 2022).

It's going to be an interesting week.

They never change, talking about how we're going to stop some bloke called Nash and Jiath?

Good on them!

They are up and about and so they should be.

They are overhyping their players and under valuing ours and we're doing the exact same.

I much prefer playing them when they're 2-0 than 0-2.

Call me insane:

TDk to key defender role.
Have questioned your sanity on occasion, but not this time. Not an immediate likelihood, but has all of the tools. If Harry and Charlie remain fit and re-signed Mirkov comes on it would be worth a go. Can’t remember someone getting first hands against him. Doesn’t hold many grabs. Have raised it before, realistic for mine.

How did Port lose? Either did a Carlton round 8-9, 1995... or they want the coach sacked.

Hawthorn move the ball on quickly from defence. 46 Inside 50's for 19 goals.

I thought port would of benefitted from a floating defender; that and poor kicking in front of goal IMO.

Cripps and Nash? (Nash 197cm 94kg - the Irish lad? Averages 7 games a season - past 4 years; 10 disposals a game over his 30 game career)
Walsh and Ward (Ward 181cm, 74kg, 2 career games)
Hewett and Titch (Titch - not sure we'd bother to tag him)
Kennedy and Newcombe (Jai is 186cm, 85kg, 8 career games)
Ceres and O’Meara (O'Meara 183cm, 83 kg - 120 odd games...never know what to make of him. Promises a lot, but....)

Gee, looking at that lot, Port need to take a really bloody hard, long look at themselves - they had most of their first choice mids playing.

Lots of big stats and metres gained - clearly incredibly ineffectual.

2021 encounter, we won by 4 goals, Tom Mitchell had 44 disposals yet didn't manage to make much impact. ZW/Saad had a field day. Walsh BOG 3 Votes.

2022 possible lineups. I expect McDonald might not get up, Cerra obvs comes in. Not sure who comes out. Massive difference between our 2021 side that dispatched Hawks with ease compared to our 2022 that has knocked over 2/4 last grand finalists first two rounds.
