Port are going to have to stump up a player of note or the deal won’t get done.
Which is the stance from day 1

They need to instead of convincing player managers not to let their players request trades to do the opposite to convince one like Sinn to come home and to any Vic club giving collateral

Not sure whether he would be offered a contract with us but could we use the GC salary cap squeeze to leverage something decent out of this? As it stands we may be offered a pick in the mid-40s or lower for Jed. Could we offer to pick up a decent chunk of his salary over a two-year period and receive their future second-round pick in return?

He doesn't have a contract for us to pay. He can't start a new contract with them and we just chip in!

Spoke to a former player today at the AFLW match who said a lot of the ex players would be absolutley ropeable if North trade out their pick #1 as they see us needing a player like Cadman rather than another mid with our first pick..
Ex players opinion have held a lot of weight for a long time. They also have a bias to key position CHF’s as well. Not saying they’re wrong, but think the inner sanctum might be better placed to make decisions re: the long term position the club might be taking. Not sure their input has been prosperous in recent times. Thanks for sharing though.

Absolutely no way they'd allow that. Would make for an absolute s**t show.
Agreed.
If they were going to allow it for anyone GC would be the club. But it would be very unlikely even in that case.
We would be better off targeting fiorini imo.
That would 100% work and if Jed is going the other way we would not be forced to include a pick like geelong was.
Free shit ftw!

Was it Fridge? I was pleased to see him watching the game - second time I passed him he had a queue of fans wanting selfies!

What a legend player that bloke was.
I would love him in our team these days.
Pretty much exactly the type we need.

Clarko doesn't like sleeves though apparently :)

With all the debate over Wardlaw versus Cadman I can’t imagine a scenario where Clarko isn’t all over every minute detail and whatever we do is signed off by him. So if we trade pick one to GWS and they take Cadman and we end up with Wardlaw or Sheezel then I’ll be happy.

I get that we’re all probably a bit triggered from how previous football departments have managed trade & draft periods but I reckon we’re in great hands with Clarko and Viney.

This is the thing Clarko will be choosing who he wants in advance!!!

Just thinking aloud here.

If Port buggers this JHF trade up - a possibility appearing more likely with each passing day - does anyone think the incentive for us to trade 1 to GWS is increased?

Because if we do nothing, we only get Cadman, Harvey and a random rookie.

If we trade JHF and keep pick 1, we could get Cadman, Wardlaw, Harvey and a sweetener: maybe Bergman, or the decent draft pick he'd attract from a trade to a third party, with which we might be able to get Hunter Clark.

If we end up keeping JHF and trade pick 1, we could get Sheezel, Hunter Clark, someone like Lachie Cowan, and Harvey.

FWIW I'm still in the trade JHF and keep 1 camp, so long as the offer is right. But is there enough difference in quality between Cadman and Sheezel to negate the the net improvement the likes of Cowan and Clark would bring our list?

Which sets us up perfectly, say if Clarko wants Wardlaw and we know GWS want Cadman then why not trade pick 1 and get another 1st round pick (and whatever else).

Good point. Like the hrovat type deal. Swap 59 for their 45. Or 59 for F3 if we aren't going to use it (based on getting more picks this year).
Yep it wont be much. But it may get us points for cooper.
I hope he gets another club I've loved him as a north player.
