Port denied exemption to use both future 1st and 2nd. So basically they’re F’d for the period without trading out players.
Well thank **** the AFL has forced them to do what they needed to do from the start, move a player with currency.

They either move someone like a Butters, Sinn or Bergman or go back to ******* and his manager and tell them have royally cocked up this whole deal.

If the deal falls over, we need to tell JHF to put in a shift for 12 months and then we will get him back to SA, to either the Crows or the Puffers.

Hmmm, Dees will get Grundy for a second round pick only paying $300k of his salary. He is still a very good ruckman. Was it a mistake to re-sign Goldy for 1 more year instead of go after Grundy?

Probably, but i'd be more keen moving Xerri on and getting Grundy. Then Goldy can play out the year and Grundy can play with CCJ for 4 years.

For obvious reasons our club has been following this closely, now the chance for extra future picks has been denied by the AFL i think this should conclude your business with Port Adelaide unless they are prepared to give up a player of substance.

I genuinely hope you keep JHF till next year, where at least the Crows come into the equation.

Just keep the trade dialogue open and when Port don't come to the table with a decent enough offer you can turn around to JHF and say you did everything you could to get him home but sadly Port didn't want him enough to make it happen. Tell him if he commits himself to the club next year and still feels the same at the end of the year you will look to trade him again as per his wishes.

A lot can change in 12 months.

Good luck with whatever your club chooses to do.

There is absolutely no way Grundy would have been willing to go to NMFC over Melbourne.

And if there was a chance, the mistake wouldn’t have been re-signing Goldy, it was re-signing Xerri.

I'm probably the only person in here that feels this way but I would trade our second and future second every year.
More for logue deals then ccj deals but I think the best value from a pick like that is senior experience like logue will bring us.
Very rarely do you get a player at pick 20 who is ready to go.
Agree, is trading in CCJ any worse ? than:
Durdin, Walker, McKenzie, Garner, McKay, Atley, Nielson.

Those late teen and early 20s picks have not brought us many wins.

If you look at the Clarko/Hawthorn history, they would use those picks or pick swaps to bring in Brian Lake, Gunston, McEvoy in successive years.

Apparently a pretty weak draft class this year outside the top dozen or so, a value on a pick needs to correlate to the draft. Probably why we saw fit to use pick 19 in a package to secure a ruckman with 4 years up his sleeve already

Only if we have pick 2 in our possession first! Then we’re guaranteed to pick two of Wardlaw/Sheezel/Tsatas. If we trade pick 1 and don’t have pick 2 we’re just waiting for the left overs, relying on who WCE pick and would’ve diluted our pick for no reason.

This and purely this.

If we dropped down to Pick 3 and got 12 as well for Pick 1 we totally risk losing the player we are set on!

Let’s assume it’s Cheezels over Cad and Coldslaw, we drop to 3 and all of a sudden we see Cad at 1 and Cheezels at 2 so we take sloppy 3rds.

We need to otherwise do the MEGA MEGA 10 TEAM TRADE and get pick 2 from WC and as part of that drop to pick 3 from one thus leaving us with Cheezels at 2 and whomever at 3.

Jhf out to port, in pick 8 future first and Sinn.
Pick 1 out to gws, in picks 3,12,18
18 out to saints for clark
3 Sheezel
8 Jefferson the kpf everybody is desperate for who is 10 on Twomey’s phantom (Cadman is 5)
12 next best
Cooper harvey.
End result jhf out, in sinn, Clark 3 top 12 picks, Cooper Harvey and ports future first.

Spoke to a former player today at the AFLW match who said a lot of the ex players would be absolutley ropeable if North trade out their pick #1 as they see us needing a player like Cadman rather than another mid with our first pick..
Cadman was as good as any player in the NAB final, incl. Ashcroft, has all the attributes of a modern tall forward, and fills a key need. He's not a man-child like Patton bullying skinny kids, he's a gazelle. I'm with whoever it is you spoke to

They simply may not be set on anyone in that top 4.

Not sure rucks is an issue for us, Goldy has an extension partly so we can value a champion of the club and get him to 300 games.

Grundy is better than any of Xerri, CCJ, Edwards but we just have bigger fish to fry.

Idk I rate clark a bit higher than that.
Not much higher but a little bit.
Say 12-18ish.
We need his kicking skills.
Second round picks are trash.
2.7 picks between 20-30 are needed to get a 100 game player. Over rated on big footy.
You've cited some interesting numbers buttox, where did you source them from?

In that instance, I would be hoping the club end up with:

Sinn, Clark, Harvey, Sheezel, Keeler, Jefferson as well as Logue & Tucker.

We address:
  • 2nd KPD
  • Running HB
  • Wing
  • Mid
  • General defender
  • KPF depth (x2)

This sort haul (however unlikely) completely corrects our list balance.

You’re missing small forwards.

Still don't believe there is anything to be gained for North to trade our pick 1 to GWS.

Freo did it in a year they shouldn't have, plus they traded for players not for other first round picks.

The other side to look at, is how many times in the last 20 years SHOULD a team have split pick 1.

Sheezel easily covers this spot.
I’m in the Cadman camp myself. Not keen on spending pick 1 on a slow half forward with minimal midfield exposure. Of course I’m selling Sheezel short, but I have concerns. Also happy to sell pick 1 for the right price.
