Old mate from the Bears didn't cover himself in glory?
Just don't think he's overly inspiring is all. The bears bloke is a d!ck but can play.

Sydney also have Darymple who is largely regarded as the best recruiter in the land. They’re not the ordinary.
Matching academy bids helps also. Great development at their club is definitely a thing also. Simpkin won the club 2k time trial at age 22. Which is great for him of course. But what does it say about our more mature players? We don't have a very good ceiling in our training standards. That needs to improve before we do.

No doubt.

My point was more in regards to nailing second round picks, which Darymple has done at every club he’s been at. Bailey Dale & Caleb Daniel say 👋🏻

Clubs have got better at drafting imo. This means more successful first round picks and more fails are pushed into the second round. I reckon the number of successful picks is pretty similar when comparing one draft to another years draft. Personally I reckon clubs put too much value in a player being ready to go. Clubs in our position need to improve next year not in the 2-3 years it may take to have a real jet to develop.
History says the top 5 are really the only sure things in each draft. It gets more speculative as the draft goes on. Folks love to point at clubs like Sydney getting guns in the second round. But if you look at the figures they have had there share of fails as well.
Some years bat deeper than others for sure. But by the time pick 20 comes around the bones have been picked out of most draft classes. It's just how it works.

In Brad's last year we had a whole bunch of first rounders playing for us.

For me if I had the choice of taking pick 20 in the draft or trading it for someone like Logue I would take Logue everyday of the week.
Logue was picked ahead of Jy in that draft, probably a fair call too. I can't believe we got him so cheap. I totally agree with you as well, I'd take a top 10 pick who is playing well but struggling to get past established players for pick 20 any day of the week.

Honestly I don't get how draft picks hold so much value compared to players potential. Logue should be worth pick 10-15 given where he is, at least, maybe even pick 8 which was what he went for. He'll be a very valuable player for us next year I reckon.

[Saints list boss James Gallagher] attempted to package Hunter Clark up with pick 9 to prise pick 2 or 3 out of North Melbourne.

However the Roos, like most clubs, ranked George Wardlaw, Harry Sheezel and Elijah Tsatas evenly at the top of the draft and weren’t interested.

HUNTER CLARK

Age: 23 Games: 68 Signed to: 2023

St Kilda declared it wanted to “squeeze the absolute best out of Hunter in 2023 and beyond” on the first day of trade period, yet by the final day it was happy to trade him. North Melbourne offered a second and third-round pick for Clark, but the Saints asked to swap him and their No. 9 selection for the No. 3 pick. Clark wanted to get to Arden St, but the deal fell over and he must return to Moorabbin for the final year of his contract. The Mount Martha boy who grew up playing saxophone and guitar while being fascinated with jungle animals has missed 23 games in the past two years through injury. Clark regressed this season — per 100 minutes of game time his disposals dropped 17 per cent and his marks 35 per cent compared to last year.
