Lots of good points but I think that doogs is the lockdown key back that we are stuck with. He is a gun 1% player who rarely gets beaten in the air. He is not a good intercept marker however. I think we need him and battle manning the key posts and a true interceptor similar to Howe as the third tall (which I'm hoping will be coff). Wilkie is a good player and very dependable but he also doesn't offer very much offensively. If coffield can provide 7/10 the defensive stuff of Wilkie but be a much better offensive threat then we will be in a better position as a team.
That would leave a back 6 of battle, doogs, coff, Paton jweb and Sinclair.
Sinclair should absolutely be left in the back line as that's where he plays the best.

I also eventually hope that Clark pushes out seb (although he's been very good this year) and NWM pushes out Billings.

Last thing we want is for nwm to request a trade back to Adelaide because he's not getting a game or Clark to request a trade because Ross is playing above him.

Find a trade for Ross or Billings and let the other play in the twos.

Not sure why Billings and NWM can't play in the same side?

Just play them both

I have to agree with the previous poster who l normally don't agree with because he's clearly stoned most times he posts.

A Fullback is definitely the most pressing need for trade season.
Not that we don't go for quality mids wherever we can but it's just the only real absent piece of our 22.
I don't agree for a second that it would mean replacing one of Doogs, Batts or Wilkie, in fact the opposite. It would set them free.

Go hard for Brisbane's first round pick and that would probably do.

Playing 4 talls in your back 6 looks very unbalanced though.

I don't consider Wilkie a tall. Same as Lienert is 195cm and not a kpd.

He's capable of playing on a smaller type but I'd consider him to be an undersized tall like Membrey. He's the same size as Coffield but I think Coff has much more of a blend of tall and short ability.

Yes he's very much multipurpose. That's why we don't need to consider him a tall. If we get another actual tall defender to do the KP work then Wilkie becomes a weapon, as does Battle.

Billings could be given a half forward role , which is most probably his best position and who knows what will happen by the time he comes back in.
There will be a lot of wear and tear on a lot of the players so by the time we bleed Billings , Clark and Jones back into the fold it might be perfect and guys like Highmore , Bytel , Highmore and Connolly who will be busting for a chance to get into the starting 22.

Anyway this game against GWS I'm expecting MWM and Windhager to have very good games , they are gaining confidence every game and one of these games they might just put on a display to put massive pressure on the selectors causing them to think twice who going out when Jones , Clark and Billings are ready to come back in.
It must not be forgotten Owens , although he never got going in the game he played I feel he is going to be a ripper as well and they are going to be far better with another year of growth and conditioning.

Can always be better but our midfield is coming togethor very nicely.

For someone coming back from an achilles, Gresh is doing a very good impression of being an "elite" player

As for Steele - he is already "elite"

Add Crouch, Jones and have Windy step up and take Ross's place and we are pretty well placed.

Who would he replace Hill or Higgins ?

He plays the high HF/wing role so that's the one Windy sometimes starts in or Byrnes had. Dmac might even get shunted. Billings is a good player at his best and with a bit of credit in the bank he probably gets straight in when ready. He's no guarantee to hold it without performing though.

I actually thought he'd be the one that has done what Seb Ross has done. His last season was injury riddled but he was still serviceable playing sore. A fully fit Billings is still a good player and when we were having good patches under Richo he was usually one of the better players. In a good side he might finally thrive.

I doubt he ever gets beyond a B+ type of output but if they are your fringe players you are cruising.

Hindsight view to class dust, trac, ging, neale as elite above Steele because they have medals.

Steele is in that class, the medals will come!

Happens every year when a team wins the flag, all of a sudden their really good mids are “elite” after the flag.

Even in the case of dusty who I class as the GOAT, if he don’t have a good team that works together (and some good fortune)... he’s got 6 less medals and he’s not “elite”

Can’t wait till October when Steele is ELITE !

When you compare this year's stats they don't seem that far behind but both Petracca and Oliver still have another level to go to IMO and they showed they could get there last year.

Oliver was averaging over 17 CP's last year which is insanely good.

Petracca is the most damaging player in the comp.

You could definitely say both Steele and Gresham are elite players and I wouldn't argue, but both are still a level off Oliver and Petracca.

I think if we could find one more on the same level as Steele and Gresh we'd be closer to the Dees.

Gresh is hard to compare on stats because Petracca is playing more midfield time but what Gresham has given us is a proper impact player. He has a lot of the Dusty, Petracca, DeGoey, Bont type of moments where he asserts himself on contests or breaks through a stalemate to score.

Steele is a beautiful player, he's clean and consistent and has carried the side, there isn't much he can't do well. Oliver is the best inside ball winner in footy, he goes full beast mode and cracks sides open. He's not got that extra gear that guys like Petracca and Bont have but what he does is the best in footy.

I have Petracca elite and CO with a foot in A grade and Elite. Steele is A grade. The elite is a very small pool to me. That's your absolute superstar class.

I think Neale and Wines are in the same range as Steele.

To me Steele sits with Merrett, Miller, Wines, Macrae, Neale, Josh Kelly, Whitfield sort of range. These are top 20 AFL players by position types.

Petracca, Bont and Dusty types are unique because they can step up when the game is in the balance and take control of it. Their personal impact is so far beyond the others that they break a game open through their own effort.

The others are absolute premium quality but don't impact in the same way.

Agree 100%. When I said Neal & Mitchell were elite I did put the caveat that they were elite during their Brownlow years acknowledging they are not at that same level.

To me it really comes down to how you categorise & rank players. My point is that there’s a level of players just above Steele such as the players you have mentioned. That’s no slight on Steele & it’s not to say he won’t reach their level at some stage.

Oliver has been universally regarded (along with Cripps) as the best inside bull in the comp for the past few years. For that reason he is a level above Steele who is also seen as a similar type of bull but does it at a slightly lower level.

They'd both be lesser players if Gawn wasn't there.

Its the strength and eveness of the collective unit that really counts and thats where we are making real progress.

Petracca, Oliver may be slightly ahead of Steele and Gresh but I'd put Crouch ahead of Viney, Ross ahead of Harmes

Add Jones and Sinclair for that additional outside run component and we are not far of them.

The real difference ATM is Gawn.

I don’t see Dmac getting shunted with the form he is in, don’t think Billing’s or any player can afford to cruise if they want a game anymore
