I wonder if we'd look at poaching Jason Cripps from Port Adelaide's list management hot seat to replace Gags whenever he leaves?

Seems to be doing quite a good job there at Alberton and was a well-loved Saints player.

Fiorini if off to Collingwood, just on Nth what have they got to trade if they land the 4 or 5 players they are after they have no picks available.

They will get something from Grundy and Henry - first round pick for Grundy and a 2nd round pick for Henry - maybe ?
McStay is a free agent , then add on this years draft picks.

There are a few in this draft expected to go a bit later on and we have Latrielle in our NGA.

#41 Sam Latreille

Though his 12 disposals and one goal hardly make for groundbreaking reading, Latreille was lively as ever in Dandenong’s forward line. The St Kilda Next Generation Academy member popped up on the attacking arc and looked to trouble Tasmania with his lateral movement, providing a handy point of creativity. He blasted home a big-time goal on the run during the final term, but unfortunately looks set to miss the grand final after being suspended for rough conduct.

That's enough for me. Let's get him.

No one you listed is a pressure forward or typical small forward.

If Higgins gets concussed again next year or Butler has a form slump, we don't have a proper small forward option on the list.
Couldn't Billings and Gresham fill the small forward role if needed and there is Windhager and Owens can fill the role if needed there.

Picking 3 AFL standard players last year has at least helped our list regeneration with Peris developing nicely for a CatB rookie.

If we can get at least 2 more good 18 year olds in this years draft plus someone like Ethan Phillips in the Rookie Draft, while potentially getting some younger fringe players at other clubs (like lipinski and brodie 2021) for cheap to help build our future then we aren't actually in that poor of a position.

Could we have a look at Deven Robertson? OOC though getting games as of recent. I've mentioned Flanders before, could Bailey Laurie be lured out? Doesn't get games but seems to be smart mid/fwd.

Personally think it’s really unprofessional the way he’s stringing us along, if he is.
Make a decision one way or the other.
Probably not unexpected though, since he’s previously broken contracts with two other clubs. Not a good look his behalf.

I’d just keep Hill. He signed a contract of his own free will and he is legally obliged to honour it.

We don’t need to do anything. Not a thing.

Sit tight. If other clubs are keen they can approach us and pay over the odds.

Same with Clark.

They could if needed, but if our only option to replace a starting small forward is to shuffle midfielders into other roles, we probably need to add another small forward option to the list.

Billings did his best work as a half forward and Gresham is alright pinch hitting forward. I'd rather play JB forward and draft a midfielder

Our second rounder plus the pick for Ben long for Brisbane’s first rounder!

Why the hell would we settle for pick 43 when GC are apparently prepared to pay him north of 500k a season?

We have put 6 years of development into him, have a contract on the table for him and he is 25yo coming into his prime and coming off the best game of his career

You reckon pick 43 is a fair deal??
Exactly. I think Longy could be in for a big jump like Sincs.
2 years ago when Sincs was 25, half the people on here wanted him delisted.
Longy, is finally showing some consistency after having a good season in 2020 and dropping off last year. He’s entering his prime and I feel he is just starting to get everything together. Not to mention he’s one player who seems to give 100% effort every week.

Melbs will get a handsome exchange for Jackson and Freo will get Jackson. Both getting a result.

That's all well and good but would you give him a four year deal on 400-500k?

Phew.

For a moment I thought you wanted to draft Lamar Latrelle 😳

Clark simply must stay - 2020 first final shows you just how good he is when he gets a consistent run on the park. Not ONE of his injuries have been his fault i.e soft tissue etc - completely St Kilda luck to the poor bastard. I also rewatched a few of our great wins this season and surprise surprise, Longy is at the centre. He set up so many goals this year by simply halving contests/pressuring backlines/getting a ground ball with a handball to a runner. If we get bulk injuries this year, we'll really feel his loss as a utility to cover multiple positions.

I'm nervous as hell we're about to make some serious mistakes this off season. All could be forgiven if we were bringing in JDG and some other big fish but who tf are we landing? Literally talk about Hartigan, Tom Phillips while losing Hill, Long, Clark types is f*cking disgusting.

Sure we might top up with a heap of 18 year olds, but whats that going to do when we come up against the bigger bodied MEN of the competition. The teams that already walk all over us.
Seriously doubt he’ll go. Yes he maybe available for the right price but the right price sounds a bridge too far for clubs. Top 10 pick.
They’ll see him as having great portentously as we do but you’d think none will stump up their top pick.

We tried a path that only clubs like Essendon and Carlton have done where we try to build through mass recruiting instead of the draft.

Normally in a proper rebuild, you get good kids in, improve as a side and once you build momentum up players want in and it's easy to attract them to you. When you do it arse about you have to over pay and get the players who are after a soft landing on big money.
Scrappy eluded to it earlier as well and it could be that maybe the Club doesn't believe a Premiership is realistically in reach within the next few years with our current group so by hitting the draft hard now and next year and year after we put together a solid young core which can complement a more mature King and also his brother Bing when he comes either at the end of his next contract (end of 2024) or when he becomes FA (2026) ..... rather than an aging group who currently can't cut it

That makes no sense. He’s obliged to honour it in that he’s obliged to hang around the club and go to training. But what if he phones it in, trains poorly, doesn’t play well, fakes injuries, whatever? Way worse for morale having a guy like that around, let alone earning a motza.

I like all of those guys a lot.

I think they are a bit confused myself. Doubt they care about a premiership, just getting a toe in the top 8 to save face would do them. There was no premiership build happening in the last 5 years. All I can imagine is that after 2 years of fails they are panicking and buying time.

We are largely a middle age list, not much old and not much youth.

Better kick yes, but Lienert's defensive skills and smarts are poor.
Compared to who? Webster! Lol!!
Webster and Battle are the worst decision makers in the club.
Their stats say one thing, chip kick backwards or sideways is all they do.
If you put them both in a pressure moment they will cough up the ball, kick to a contest, kick to an out number, or handball to a teammate in a worse position or under pressure. Happens every time.

If all this talk about moving is down to him , it's not good - it means he wants out and will be gone at end of contract and could well of already checked out.

He's not wrong though. Lienart takes the easy option defensively and it makes it harder for team defence to work that way. His kicking is outstanding majority of the time but he still needs to be accountable. Good depth piece and we should keep him but he doesn't make our defence better structurally

Most likely:

  • mid-20s pick for Hill
  • mid-20s pick for Clark
  • 40ish pick for Long

I’ll be seriously surprised if we end up with better than that, we just don’t have the leverage, considering we seem to be pushing Clark out.
Miles off!
Clark and Hill are contracted.
Look what Freo just did to Lobb. They basically told him to suck it up and see out your contract. We can do the same.

If they really want those players, then cough up the draft picks!
