Ross rediscovered it. Perhaps we need to reprogram him. Ross is a shocking decision maker if he stops and thinks, move it quickly on instinct and he's actually creative. Billings needs to back first instinct, that's the 5 snapped goals against the Dogs guy before we broke him. Billings doesn't have to be Steele, he just needs to play his best footy.

Yeah, I agree.

The problem is I'm losing hope, we have been saying for years now that Billings needs to play a bit more like Gresham and he hasn't changed a bit.

No way are they dumping Highmore for Gardiner , that's going backwards

TH is an intercept defender who gets high numbers. DG is a proper KPD who plays on talls.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with height. Max Hudghton was 191cm and i adored him as our full back. Top three fave player when he was playing.

I thought Max was great, and his style let him play beyond his height but he was often playing against the likes of Fev (1.91) Brown ( 1.95) ,A Rocca ( 1.95) , S Rocca ( 1.96), Hall (1.94). David Neitz ( 1.93 ) had his number.

Of the regular fullbacks in 2006, Hudghton conceded fewest goals. While his disposals average of 10 was below average for a defender, Hudghton's disposal efficiency of 90% was elite. With only 32 marks from opposition kicks in the past two years, he prefers to spoil and in 2006 he effected the fourth-most spoils in the league.

In 2008, Hudghton shut down key players such as Matthew Lloyd, Warren Tredrea, Russell Robertson, Brendan Fevola, Barry Hall and Lance Franklin in the home and away season. Hudghton held Franklin and Fevola to nine goals through four games (2.25 goals per game); a remarkable achievement[citation needed] given their combined 201 goal haul at 4.57 goals per game. He was included in the 2008 All Australian squad of 40.

I thought he often worked like a mini ruck with his spoils, tapping them towards Sam Fisher who would do a great job on the rebound.

Hell no

The ross banter last year was spot on. Good on him for finally putting in 100% this year. Maybe when he found no suitors last year, he realised his time in the AFL was limited if he didn't turn things around quickly.

Sinclair was never potted.

Dmac once upon a time for his disposal. Feels a long time ago now. Was never on much coin. No reason to pot him in recent times?
Ross was a 2 time best and fairest when people were saying he couldn’t play. Sinclair was absolutely potted on here as not up to it, just a list clogger. DMac was absolute garbage, didn’t know how he got another contract and so on. If you’ve missed the posts or haven’t read far enough back then I’m not that concerned but it’s 100%.

Billings has had a rough run with injury, if you can’t admit he was a very good player before that then again it changes nothing. Maybe go and watch some of his games and take a look at his stats.

Unfortunate isn't it. Someone pointed out that he's 27 and should be in the prime of his career.

For this reason, there should be hope he can still produce his best year ever... But he's running out of time and soon he will run out of opportunity in the team as well.
I was more than ready to give Ross away end of last season. I’m still holding out hope for JB. Hope his body gives him a decent shot at it this year.

All I want from Billings is for him to back himself more. I want him to take the game on and say "come with me boys, I'm going to drag us over the line."

I don't see that from him

But he's far from sh*t.

And also for people to say Acres was nearly AA like I seen earlier...ffs, the other one plays jingle bells....

The over rating of other teams players and the under rating of saints players is absolutely criminal around here.

Yes the saints and players have made mistakes, but ffs, some around here are making it out like it's a just a daily * up one after the next....it's just simply not true....

We’re killing it because our trading/drafting has been first rate. If anything we criminally underrate our players and trade them for unders while talking up everyone on the market as worth 2 first founders, that’s the joke on here imo.

Even though they are "established players" it seems that statistically a traded player can be just as unpredictable as a draft pick.
Its worse than that , a draft pick "could" be that special champion where a traded player is probably all they will ever be.

Example : First round pick for Brad Hill. - Fremantle originally demanded pick 6.
Serong might win a Brownlow one day. Hill won't. We never thought he would.

Then when we start trading multiple draft picks it skews the odds further.

Odds are if we used pick 10, we'd have ended up with a player as good as Hill.
Also half a chance we end up with a decent player for our future second ( though in this case it was the 2020 draft and the pick we'd traded was fairly downgraded compared to normal ). Cats used our pick to get Max Holmes. ( probably a better choice than our first round pick ).

He is frustrating coz he can find it enough and has the skills to be a damaging player, but plays so safe

I don't think Billings is very good per se. I think he's doing 'enough' without taking the game on. To often he's not doing a lot with his disposals offensively, rather he provides a link in the chain. I believe we need more from him. If he stays then i hope Lenny can get the best out of him and turn him around.

Yeah agreed hopefully he completes a full pre-season injury free and hits the ground running.

His body has defiantly let him down the last few years.
