Instead of going to for shitkickers playing in the reserves of other teams, why don’t we do a Demons & trade next yrs 1st pick into this yr for another top 10 pick?

From memory, Dees have done it twice for Oliver/Weideman, then Jackson/Pickett

If Hill leaves for Norf with the highly rumoured end of 1st Rd pick coming to us for him, that’s 2 top 10 picks & 2 picks in the 20s… 🤔

Then just hit the draft & take 1-2 free agents
I'm all for trying to get another first round pick this year...

But it is possible to do that and look for cheap trades, it's not like it's one or the other

Dow might not he the answer, but there are always bargain players out there looking for opportunity so it would be poor management to not look at those options

In terms of getting another first round pick this year, I think it's possible to do without trading out next years. If we can get something half decent for Hill then all of a sudden we have more than enough points to offer Brisbane to move up in the draft.

I doubt any club will be willing to trade out of this year's top 10 unless it's a monster deal for them

Melbourne targeted Oliver , and traded their first round pick ( 6 Petrevski-Seton ) and future first ( Brodie ) and second rounder (Redman ) for picks 10 and 3.
It was a clear case of targeting a particular player.
I can't really see why Gold Coast were highly motivated to do that deal, unless they had their heart set on Ah Chee and knew he would be there.
They then used the BS Academy player system to trade pick 10 and Junk for Pick 7 GWS. ( Weideman ).

Jackson was plain old fashioned tanking.
Melbourne did find a gullible team to trade pick 8 for their 2020 first and their 2019 second.

But Fremantle did it well that year.
They targeted Serong.

First they found a gullible club and convinced them to trade a first round pick ( and more ) for a spud player on their list.
Then they paid Melbourne that first round pick (10) + their rounder for pick 8 which got them Serong.

Melbourne got Pickett with the pick 10 they got back.

First you need to be a good judge of which player to target ( X )
Then you need to target that player and be a good judge of where he will go in the draft , and be an astute trader ( X ).

Which is the answer to your "why don't we " question.

He’s produced nothing at Carlton and I’d nether call him quick. I watch the blues as my son in law is a massive blues fan. I’d say Dow is worth a chance based purely on his under age form. Carlton supporters have been all over him since almost day 1 so maybe a change of scene might turn him around but he’d need to be cheap.

If we lose Bytel and get Dow, our list management are jerking off.

Saints list management the night before trade week ends.

So Paddy Dow is now our 2022 trade hypothetical version of last years with Lochie O’Brien 😂🤪

Dow, who turns 23 in October, played just two games at AFL level under new coach Michael Voss this year but starred in a VFL finals win on Sunday.

“I was just surprised he didn’t get much of a look in at Carlton (this year),” Murphy told the ABC.

“I feel he adds something a bit to them in terms of his leg speed and burst.

“He’s always had a bit of a knock on his disposal but I’m just more thinking for him he needs to explore another opportunity and try and resurrect an AFL career, which has kind of just stalled at the moment.

“He’s dominated VFL this year.”

He's like Dunstan and Matt Crouch. Those types are back in fashion so it would be good to get one on the cheap IMO. Worst case it's cheap back up. I still think if we had one on the list we'd be playing finals this year. Lost games from Steele, Gresham and Jones. Having a ready made inside ball winner would have helped.

Dow is pretty ordinary but he actually played a few good game last year when they played him on ball in the seniors. If he came for FA I'd be interested n sniffing around.

I'd take Dow over Bytel

Bytel will always struggle to get a game with Steele and Crouch there. Dow is at least a point of difference.

1 year older, 63 games experience.

I'm not sure i could hold a straight face if you told me he'd come good under StKilda's superior player development.

I don't mind the idea. Could be low risk high reward just like Lipinski last year.

His foot skills are not great but we need a mid with pace.

Is he quick? I haven't noticed him being quick.

Agree with this and Rors initial post.

Hit the draft if we can do what Rors proposed especially if we got say DeGoey and Darcy Gardiner as FA's.

Only fly in the ointment is the Hill trade. Still think North are doing the chasing and need to make it happen. Hill is after all contracted, and we aren't in fire sale salary dump mode.
I have a feeling the AFL will give North and end of 1st round PP and stipulate they need to trade it. Clarkson and North have made lots of noise about Hill, and I feel that the AFL would want them to make a splash with a 'big' signing and Clarko is still in honeymoon period. Saying that we aren't going to make off like bandits, mutually beneficial if we got the PP and even paid 200k of his salary. Frees up over a mill and then our FA's are well and truly in play and Rors evil plan could come to fruition :D
Looks the biggest trade targets this year should be me, you and rors

Gold Coast will get pick 5 and probably 23 from Ade for Rankine.
That gives them 5 and 7 2 x 2nd rounders 3 picks in the 30s.

They must/should ask North for pick 1 for 5 and couple of seconds or at worst pick 7 and maybe North comp pick back say 19.

North give up pick 5 or 7 to Bris for 13 which gets them Ashcroft along with a few second rounders back.

We then get an upgrade from pick 9 to pick 5 or 7 to get McKenzie and Hill gets us another pick somewhere in the 20s to 30s as the balance.

Gold Coast and GWS hold the keys to a lot of the pick swaps this year.

North have pick 1 and junk. They need more trade capital if they bring players in and the above is just one way of doing it.

Is Hill worth pick 20.....after what I have seen of him and the money we would have to pay no? I would consider him for 6-700k and pick 20 or pick 35 itself.

I really don't understand why everyone is so all in on McKenzie. He looks like a solid citizen but I hope we look around a bit. Other than having been in our academy I don't think he offers much more than others around him.I certainly wouldn't move up to get him. He could definitely slip out a bit regardless and others might not be as desperate to get him as us. He's more safe than spectacular. I see him in that sort of 6 to 15 th sort of range.

God you love pumping up your own tyres , Id love you to show me where I posted the same thing
And you love bagging anyone trying to give the forum so info. mowman doesn't need to pump up his own tyres, he can run his own race, just sad that some on here want to tear down any news that is posted.

If the Acedemy thingo meant anything it would be Ok, but McKenzie is just another high end mid in the mix in my book, and I am sure the recruitment dept would feel the same. In saying that if he is best fit at the time our pick rolls about, I wouldn't be unhappy to get him, but there certainly would be others that need considering.

Yes he's got a good burst of speed. Not sure where people are getting the idea that he is slow

“I feel he adds something a bit to them in terms of his leg speed and burst" Marc Murphy

He's a slow turnover merchant.
Turnovers yes, he's far from slow though?

Yep. Some of us don’t post much (ie: me) cos when we offer up good intel, it gets shitcanned & then if it’s right, the shitcanners don’t apologise… they just remove the shitcanning posts

****ing lame & weak

I know it was reported, but a little more info i received on the weekend regarding Brad Hill..

Very Loose guy in regards to socially, rocks up late to meetings, extremely moody and him leaving is player driven not him, more players a fed up with him.

Probably another reason the board wanted to take a closer look at the De Goey situation. Hill Is out 100% looks like 40c-60c on the dollar will be the likely outcome not the 80c-90c as we were probably hoping for.

Bad result if true.

So i take it you're talking to me you sheep , Joff accused me of deleting a post so i asked George to take a look at what supposed post i deleted as he is the only one that can see deleted posts and he said there were no deleted posts related to what Joff was banging on about so how about you pull your head in

I remember the reason years ago you flicked the forum was because you got so piled on because you said O'Meara would never be the player Clarko was looking for because his knee injury was so bad for an elite sportsman. Just because you are a physio, apparently you had no idea.

O'Meara has played for the Hawks but is nowhere near the player he was looking like becoming.
