This is what I'm sick of, it always feels like the expectation is on us to be accomidating, whether it is paying overs or letting somone go for unders. And they want us to have both paid overs for Hill and now to let him go for unders? Stuff that.
Like when it's not fair that we should target poor GC with Ben King and the AFL should step in yet Rankine was always going home so that's fair enough

I just wanna point out I said like 2 weeks ago we would probably wind up paying half of hills salary and get pick 40.

Saints, whoever is in charge of this, it’s real simple.

We pay a commensurate portion of his wage for a good player or pick or we pay none and it’s a salary dump (which I can’t imagine we need to do).

Don’t **** it up.

Just saying, Clarko has always been more into trading senior guys than hitting the draft early.

Already plenty at north he will build around.
McKay, xerri, LDU, jhf if he stays, larkey, Simpkin, zurhaar.

Even getting Cunners back should help.

Whilst we are on the subject of Steele clones, I can tell you that both McGlynn and Enright say Owens is the Steele clone. In fact they say he’s the only one that can play the role of what Steele does on field. They are both big wraps for him.

True, but Owens is much more then just a Steele clone. Will take many more marks (including hangers), and will kick many more goals (out of nothing). I think his only weakness may be his field kicking, which will be serviceable but perhaps not pin-point accurate.

IMO, he is going to win a lot of games of his own boot just through his x-factor.

Especially if we build a midfield around him (Windhager is a start to this but we need more young mids to go with them. Clark/Bytel/Byrnes maybe but yet to be seen). 2022 FRDP must be the best midfielder available so we can build that trio of Windhager, Owens, 2022 FRDP. That at least gives us a line to add too.

Ross, Crouch, Steele, are good enough and can carry us for now but we have to be developing in whilst they’re getting through their prime years.

Gresham is the other one whose kind of in the middle of the old and the young, still young but yet to be seen whether he’ll be more of a mid of a forward. We should not trade him unless it’s for 2 FRDP, or a really high FRDP, he’s a star.

I think we send them backwards due to theme plan. The forward line is seriously dysfunctional. Ratts seems to get players near to broken then moving them back to where they play well.
Well I think my thoughts on giving ratts another two years mid season are pretty well known. I couldn’t believe we didn’t talk to clarko but then the club does a lot of things that make no sense to me.

You'd accept a token pick for a contracted Hill and have us pay part of his salary? OK. I wouldn't, but this is the beauty of this forum haha.
Of course I would like as good a pick as possible, but the media putting his value at the same price as other players moved on large contracts isn't treating anyone with distain.

How about we trade Brendon Lade for a packet of chips? Happy if it's just a regular 170g size than a party size pack.

I think we need to cool our jets a little with Owens. He has a lot of potential but he's not what is call a lock to make it as a quality AFL footballer.

Still has a long way to go

Windhager on the other hand I'm extremely confident will be a gun

We laugh at Dodo, but he snatched Merrett out of the back of that 2013 draft, after Acres, Dunstan, and Billings.
That is our rebuild summed up in one post.

Clearing the 800-900k a season might not be necessary but be a good benefit that we might not get the opportunity to do again.
But why take a shit pick AND pay some of the salary. We have the cash back in two years.
It's nothing like Treloar

Floor is as a half forward.
Ceiling as a mid.

The hill situation is fairly straight forward, if we need the cash for a free agent we‘ll take a hit to get him off the books. If not I’d be telling him see you at training otherwise retirement and the wafl beckons. He’s contracted, he can play when used properly, he stays unless the deals right.

What’s the afl going to do, he’s playing senior football, he’s making a fortune, he’s contracted. Oh can you please give up your player and keep paying some of his salary because he’d be happier at norf.

The st Kilda football club needs to stop dabbling in the afl, play to win on and off the field, set standards to achieve that or get some people in who are prepared to.

But why take a s**t pick AND pay some of the salary. We have the cash back in two years.

Yeah it's gotta be one or the other.

We are in a very different situation to the Pies a couple of years back where they had to off load players.

I think we can afford to hold onto him if we need, so if we don't get a top 25 pick then we should not be paying any of his contract.

We'll give it straight back to JDG though. Hopefully Ratts isn't gone by the end of next year and we are chasing a player like Hill for the new coach.
But we have already got the cap to off DeGoey a hefty salary why do we need Hills for it.

Sorry to answer four of your posts in a row, however, they all have questions.

Our trading has been fine but we are slowly destroying the guys we took.
Snags, Jones, Hill and Butts are now all shadows of the players we recruited. Doogs probably isn't as good either.
Or - perhaps they are exactly the player we traded for we jut hoped there would be more upside.

Snags and Buttler would not get a game at Richmond. Jones was a burst player who butchers the ball at Sydney - he continues to remain that player.

Hill regressed, no doubt.

Doogs had a poor season, but is much improved on the PA version.

De Goey 5 year stkilda contract on table at better money than Collingwood will offer so it’s up to him, saints confident he’ll take the money.

Is he still going full bush league and being managed by his dad?

If so, that would work in our favour I would think- amateur manager who is heavily emotionally invested would be more likely to chase dollar signs than a pro?

De Goey is a no brainer

Correct- that's the biggest risk.

I don't think any of that contradicts what I've said. Steele is a great player but he's quite a staid and solid operator. He's no flash harry with a bag of party tricks. To me Windy looks much more disco and flashy.

I remember when I took a break from football and started playing a lot basketball again. Once you return to footy you see the game completely different. It adds new moves and tricks to get the ball out of congestions either via a handball/kick or breaking away from the pack. It feels like you have more time.

Trading Gresham without a huge return makes no sense at all. We’d need an early first or a great trade deal to even consider it.
