i think the strategy here is to:
1) keep rebuilding through the draft
2) try get absolutely elite players via trade. like matching winners.

the problem is these two things are often mutually exclusive, because the elite players want clubs that play finals and if you're playing finals you get dont get high end picks to really change your fortune from the draft.

theres talk we are banking picks for a raid next year. mitchell might help that.

If rebuilding through the draft is the strategy why are we about to go into the draft with a draft hand weaker than most clubs?
Other teams are attracting established talent and have a better draft hand than us.
Do you mean the draft strategy is to pray for a miracle that our 1 1st and 1 2nd rounder becomes an elite talent and that gives us enough to compete?

I've watched the majority of his career games and he is a shocking footballer. Can't comprehend how someone could think he is anything else.

That's not how it works. You have as many picks as you have spare spots on your list. If we had 20 spare list spots we could have 20 draft picks.

Cordy is a better player than Joyce was. We need key defensive cover and he can provide that without us having to give up a draft pick.

I understand your point. Still, using Joyce as your argument doesn't stack up as he had no place on an AFL list. I don't want a list clogger like Cordy either yet he has a small amount of value in a seniors team. Like you though, that doesn't make him a good pickup even for depth. There is a better option out there, Phillips.
