I'm biased because I work in the railways, but 100% agree with the above. Add to those groups the working class. They love trains even if they don't ride them everyday - it's because a train line is reassurance for them. If your car doesn't start (or is in for repairs/servicing) or your partner needs the car for the day, you've got the train as your back-up to get to work. If fuel prices go through the roof, leave the car, take the train and save some cash.

The trains will work in Labor's favour in 2026. In the North West with the Metro Tunnel open, those seats along the Sunbury line get more modern trains and an improved service. Also works for the South East.

If I was the ALP, I'd announce before 2026 (and get early works started) electrification of the Melton line. In the South East, I'd get works done on extending the suburban line to Clyde. In fact, I'd go further and re-open the Leongatha line (for V/Line services).
Fellow railwayman and I’d hope you are also RTBU. Anyway yeah South Gippy line should be re opened.

I dont disagree but the Garrett/Marshall fierfighters agreement needed a resolution at the time and Andrews only options was to sideline Garrett because Marshall was out of reach.

If they did it over again Andrews would probably back Garrett in.
Im talking in general, Paul Marshall is a psychopath. I’ve met him. Know him

Yeah I think thats become pretty clear as time goes on. It's definately all about him rather than the people he is meant to be representing.

It’s why the NSW firies broke off I know that much

Hasn't been so far, tell that to those affected by his madness and the lives lost in lockdowns. This bloke is dreadful for the future of this state.
If you'd bothered to read the last few pages you could see some of Andrews' positive lasting legacies, but there is a crayon stuck somewhere in your brain which hinders your rational thinking. If Guy or Morrison was running Victoria for the last 10 years the state would probably be non existent at the moment.

Next election the Liberals will have to counter;
  • Footscray hospital will be brand new and finished in 2025
  • Metro tunnel will be brand new and open in 2025
  • Level crossings will be ongoing - not sure when they finish
  • Suburban rail loop may have turned soil
  • Melbourne airport rail will have turned soil
  • There will be an election in late 2026.
  • liberals will still be kooks
Good luck happy clappers and cookers
67 gone so far (2022) expanding to 110 gone by 2030. Expect more in added to the list by the 2026 election. There were 180 across Melbourne when Andrews was first elected. So, 70 more still to go after the 110. The hardest ones to remove though are going to be along the Sandringham line where most of the stations are heritage listed and removal options are limited due to the tight corridor and in Brighton Beach station/South Road level crossing's case the close proximity of the beach.

ps. Add the Westgate tunnel (finally) to the list of finished projects by 2026.

Dan is doing (imo) all he possibly can to remove all forms of hate and bigotry in our society, and I feel like that more than anything bothers the extreme right more than anything regarding his other political policy and spending he makes.

Any person against free tampons for women or safe schools and places for LGBT kids is not someone worth having a political debate with imo, issues like that should be non-negotiable as basic human rights imo.

Yet loonies like Xtreme and his eXtreme right wing looney friends are still freely allowed on bigfooty and I am privately told by mods that people like him are like harmless court jesters ffs lol.

I don't know how you could balance this with not supressing freedom of speech but the bile that comes out of Sky and News Corp is extremely toxic for the community and the perfect breeding ground for the 1% of people who eventually turn into right wing extremists (including those who terrorised the West Gate during that lockdown protest).

That earlier clip of Media Watch showed Rowan Dean calling for people to load up with baseball bats for Dan Andrews. They should be losing their licence and right to be in the mainstream media.

expect local push to tunnel the whole line (pipe dream linking it up with the SRL????) .... all dependent on soil quality of course but this would allow preservation of the heritage listed buildings (repurposed as community hubs or similar - much like the mentone LX development)

doubt this line is high on labors list though - especially given the election results favouring liberals in brighton and sandringham

Oh please I'm nothing like those people. I haven't even gone to ONE protest!!

I think they've missed the chance to gain any political capital on the problems of the West Gate Tunnel as well. That was something to do this campaign and I don't remember it even being mentioned. It, too, will be open by the election and the industrial disputes, delays, blow-outs and contaminated soil will be an ancient memory.

In fairness Dean was corrected with his Freudian Slip and cricket bats were suggested in place of baseball bats

Mainly because the media really oversold how big the 'problems' were.

It was a fairly standard logistical issue, and thanks to a good contract signed by Victoria, it was not our issue to fix it was the developers problem.

Work is continuing at a steady pace and has been for nearly a year.

There is nothing positive about Dan Andrews for the people of Victoria... absolutely nothing! Victoria will pay a huge price for this contradictory, condescending, patronising Premier...Victorians are weak, they've been bent over and they like it!
I think I am beginning to understand you. Anyone living in Docklands is prone to making bad choices and decisions.

Do you or any of your family live in the area that was considered outside of the lockdown zone?

Yes and if you live in the west, the progress being made is there for all to be seen. It’s really big stuff, getting done.

Nevertheless... IIRC the original opening date was a matter of weeks before this campaign started. The timing was perfect for it to be used as ammunition.

I'm watching back clips from the federal election night and Jane Hume is asked what went wrong for the Coalition in Victoria. Her response was that they "thought there would be a bigger anti-Dan Andrews effect" but they overestimated it, and it didn't play out in the result.

They had the data right in front of them that making the state election a referendum on Dan Andrews was a losing strategy but they did it anyway. I guess that's what you need to do when you have zero to actually propose.
Linking "Jane Hume" and "thought" was your first mistake. Some of her performances leading up to the federal election were like a series of absurdist comedies. I'm conflicted on whether she is a brilliant artiste playing a 'rôle', or just another idiot who became a senator by default. (Heard a rumour years ago about some in-house assistance with her tertiary qual, but was from a union apparatchik, so could have been just sour grapes.)

wouldnt call guy a cooker - not this election anyway (2018 is another matter all-together - his behaviour then was shameful) ..... guy's problem is that he projects this persona of permanent outrage - like he wants to nut his interlocutor (look at vision of him in parliament - anger is his default emotion) ..... probably being uncharitable but he just personifies the 'small angry man' stereotype

[edit] that said, i think his loss this election cycle will be more damning than 2018 .... which says everything you need to know about what victorians think of the spiv

Maybe Guy is cooker curious?

Sure, of course, but the stuff being currently constructed is massive, and will make a difference. I just think good on them for taking on such an enormous task.

Yep all good stuff. More needed in the corridors
