So we need Melbourne, or their forward line to bend over against Carlton tomorrow night .. and straight set

Sorry, but I'm just not seeing it
They already did last week against a side they likely need to beat next year. If they managed to win it this year then they can strengthen their weakest part of the ground.

Our pick 9

Well, we have people on here saying that Hayward offers nothing more than Murphy, they've put up figures to make the case and then claim as he's contracted he'd cost way too much.

So given that, is Murphy worth more than a high second as he is contracted and according to others, offers just as much as Hayward

Some posters just have a very one eyed Crows view of the world

We had to match the years Melbourne offered as he was clearly still a wanted player.
Why? It's been talked about on here and elsewhere for a long time he was looking for a trade.

I'm guessing we offered a 2 year contract 2-3 months ago - Which we thought fair - if he didn't like it we are under no obligation to match a late deal.

So no he doesn't look like a required player at all.

What is a "long time"? There was doubt he was even going to be offered a contract until his very good late season form, we increased our offer to 3 years to match Melbourne's offer and Nicks reportedly spoken to him again this week so clearly he was a required player. You think Melbourne offered him a 3 years contract mid season without any exposed form given his age? Now that would be shit list management.

Since May I reckon. Now to be fair that included long term LM strategies form posters. But some also mentioned at the same time that he was exploring a trade

If we matched Melbournes deal why is he still leaving?

I still think that's AFC spin.

Because it's ultimately his decision. Sure, it could be a strategy to get the best trade by providing optics to Melbourne we don't want to loss him but doubtful. My guess is Melbourne offer immediately came after ours and they were willing to increase their by a year then we increased ours to match but McAdam has already made up his mind, maybe the report of his disagreement with Burgess was true and why he still want to be traded?

For a contracted best 22 plaer you can't be serious?...Sydney hold all the bargaining chips here.

That's without them already smarting big time over losing Dawson for what they considered big unders very recently..

Dropped down the order? HUH?
I understand what he means about dropped down the order - he had a lot of buzz about what he could be, but it feels like the footy industry has cooled on him.

Well we will get a good look at how Tomlinson goes getting a recall for Melbourne. They must rate him enough to select him for a do or die clash line tonights. That can't be understated, so he obviously has something to offer still.

Their cupboards getting a little bare would be a better explanation

JVR - suspended
Petty and Melksham - season ending injuries
Brown - injured (knee - test)

Footy industry LOL...

When is the last time he didn't play AFL when fit?

When did he last get dropped and play VFL?

He's Sydney's best 22 every day when fit.

And also if Tomlinson only comes in a as a gap fill until Murray comes back I am cool with it. And if we can lure Cox home next year ill be even happier.

I really don't get the Cox fapping on here personally, he's a good KPD but not a player we should sell the the farm to lure home. Altogether different if he comes a free agent at only cost to the salary cap.

The difference between Murphy and Hayward is that the opposition has to pay attention to Hayward (like they do with McAdam) whereas they don't have to pay attention to Murphy.

And that's why no club would come after a contracted Murphy but would be interested in Hayward

It's a good second pick we have, so yes, I'm serious.

He hasn't made it into the midfield as hoped, and not likely given the improvement from other players. He had a better year last year.

Not worth pick 9 in any scenario, best 22 is not good enough.

Where is this "hasn't made it to the midfield as hoped talk" coming from? He was drafted by the very astute Kinnear Beatson off of a good showing forward at the Nationals and a big Finals campaign in the SANFL finals series for North Adelaide, a position he played all year.
He's played relativeley little midfield at all.
He's decent marking medium forward and if we have interest why not wait until he's a RFA next year because if you think Sydney are letting a contracted best 22 player go for a 2nd round pick especially so soon after the Dawson situation I think you're going to be very disappointed.

Sure. I'm just commenting on what he said, and whether Hayward was still a "buzzy" player. He's probably topped out and shown what he can offer - which DOES have value but isn't more than pick 20 for mine, or as a free agent.

Maybe he hasn’t come on as much as they had hoped, and is over paid. RFA means top 25% of earners and while you can make an argument for him being in their best 25% of players, he’d have to be at the very bottom of that 25%.
IF they think they’re paying him too much, especially next year, they might let him and his cap space go for a second rounder. I think?
