According the tigers page, the Hawks have some interest in Hugo Ralphsmith the son of Hawk Sean Ralphsmith.

HRS apparently can play in the wing / defence. Not sure how he fits in ….. Maybe some one is on their way out.

There’s talk of a player swap Kosi for HRS. Not sure what to think of this info.

Sold on the mullet. It's breathtaking!

Great 24 hours dodging 2 spuds in Kozi & McKay

Back to what we should be doing Hitting the draft hard.

And going for GC first pick and getting two picks in the first 5 and keep building.

For Kosi I’ll see if we can get a future 2nd rather then in this years draft so we can hit the draft hard again next year.

The sometimes injured Lewis, rookie Ryan and VFL Greene will struggle to kick a winning score tbh.
Kosi going and McKay not coming leaves a few spots for talls.

I posted a week or so back why Chol would be perfect for you guys, and that hasn't changed.

$450,000 PA is his contract.

He's gettable.

Caleb Graham won't be leaving. Very much a required player under Hardwick.

Glad it’s over either way, guess we’ll just throw the sink at a couple of FA’s next year then.

Move for 1, and/or 4. Draft has to be our focus, not list cloggers like Spargo.

What a waste of time and emotional energy. Not a big fan of MM and now teaming up with a 2nd year coach probably means we will keep falling short vs pitches made by more seasoned campaigners for a while. Atleast we will have an early first round pick next year again the way things are going.
As I reported a few days ago, Sam was the sole reason we were actually in the conversation at all. His presentation was impressive.

In the end, McKay had a previous relationships with Brad Scott and Jordan Ridley, and that has counted against us.

McKay has chosen a Club with a long track record of mediocrity. It’s an interesting decision, but he is clearly craving short term success after years of watching the ball sail of his head at North. Essendon are further advanced than us, but does no mean equal they’ll win a flag before us.

Back to the drawing board, he is a big miss because of the zero draft capital. He would have been a big bonus and accelerated our rebuild.

Onwards and upwards. I look forward to saying “imagine how McKay would feel watching this”, when we win a flag and the Bombers continue their premiership drought…

You gotta feel a little bit for Chol.

Left Richmond after not being supported in 'grope-gate' and really, Dimma wasn't a fan.

Goes north to be closer to family (and probably GC the best suitor even on about $450K per year) - and then finds out that his new coach is.......Dimma.

All the talent in the world, but allowed too much latitude by Dew regarding fitness / weight / training (the irony is not lost on me I assure you) - and finds himself in the VFL again, with a new coach who doesn't rate him.

Nor did Steven King.

BUT - always a but at trade time - Chol booted 44 goals when he was half fit and carrying 7-8 kg of excess weight.

He has all the talent in the world, but coach after coach let him get away with poor training and still gave him game time - and a club gave him a salary that 99% of Australians would love.

He will find a home somewhere - the exit interviews are done at GC - so the 'gettable' talk probably has some legs.

He's only 26 - but he's under contract until 2025.

If he goes that leaves a busted up Levi, and Chris Burgess as back-up to Ben King, who still hasn't extended - Jed Walter has a massive task on his hands to step up pretty much from day one.

Get Chol fit, motivated, and fully bought into a clubs philosophy - there's a 60 - 70 goal FF right there.

Hardwick, Dew and King have failed in that - can Sam Mitchell be the one that does, or do Hawthorn wait to see how GCS perform in 2024 - because that's 100% what Ben King will base his decision on.

If SM does think he can unlock Chol - and you are letting Kosi go - then there is a spot, regardless of the very real possibility of Ben King in 2024.

Lewis, Chol and Ryan / DGB would be very potent - and Chol could do the Kosi 'ruck' role much better.

But Chol has to buy in,and change his mindset - and I'm not too sure he really wants to at GC.

Him moving on does suit GCS - getting enough points from a Chol trade frees up Pick 4 for other uses.

Maybe a club with a better culture will have more luck with Chol. It's all about risk / reward I guess.
My prevoius thought on Chol and why he could be a great get under Sam Mitchell FWIW

Some decent KP prospects in the draft that we can target - I still think we should be hitting the draft hard this year and next.

I get he was a free hit, but IMO, he was only ever going to be a stop gap.

Would've been handy but not the end of the world. We move on and go again. We are still building and many pieces of the puzzle to come. No one player is the answer.

I wanna say thanks to all the ITKs for sharing what they heard even if it didn't go the way some heard or thought. Obviously things can change very quickly and new offers arise etc. Managers can play both sides as we know too.

Don't stop sharing the info guys. We appreciate passing on what you hear and look forward to the next developments and players we target.

This is exactly he kind of deal we'll look back on in 3 years and be thrilled we didn't make it.
Well the last time we missed out in a big trade race against Essendon was on Dylan Shiel…which was so…um…disappointing?

No, disappointing isn’t the word I’m searching for. I need a word that means happy or joyous.

Unsure how McKay coming in as a defender and losing a bloke who averages a shade over a goal a game is going to impact us that much. You can take the faux concern back to the Gold Coast board.

Bullet dodged seriously. Why are we going after him at that price? We’re 1 maybe 2 years into a rebuild under sam. Keep going to the draft for next 2/3 years then hit the free agency market once Tassie comes in and draft if compromised, like we did with GWS/GC. And keep trading/ delisting the deadweight like Kosi, Phillips, Howe, Tom, JOM. Sams going beautifully so far. Must say Jeka prob stays on list now. Burge should have him as his biggest focus this pre season.

From my time on BigFooty, some of the 'big names' I remember us being close to nab and not getting the deal over the line include the following players,

  • Jake Carlisle
  • Dylan Shiel
  • Stephen Coniglio
  • Brad Crouch

Without being harsh, they're all shit.

(Yes a little harsh to Cogs who has been ok this year).
