I believe at training today the Saints were working on a Plan B, i was standing near a channel 7 camera man and before they started match sim a Saints media employee came up and told the camera man he'd have to rap it up and move on, which he did.
I don't know what the plan is but when Butler kicked the ball along the flank from the backline Ross stopped them and gave Baker the ball back and instructed him to do what he wanted, which to me was plan B, having seen it i was able to watch for it. There might be a number of facets to it, i think i saw part of it.

The game on Sunday will tell us if they are doing anything different.
Don't like plan B, on to plan C,D,E and F.

This plan B is so much garbage. Early on we were running past the mark and getting handballs to open up the field to move it quickly, or they would move it wide and outrun the opposition.
That run has gone somewhat so have been forced to bang it to the goalsquare.
So our plan B is...wait for it....Kick it to King.

Didn’t someone post here, around three months ago, that Bergman was keen to come home and preferred St Kilda (allegedly via his father)? Salt grains etc
I said he defs wants to come home a few weeks ago. I have got that on good authority. I have read a few posters on fb say he wants to come to us

Targets should be:

1) Bergman (PA, mid/def)- 2RP + Change
2) Flanders (GC, mid)- 3RP
3) Flynn (GWS, ruck)- F3RP*
4) Dow (CAR, mid)- 4RP/Rookie*
5) Harmes (MEL, mid)- 4RP/Rookie*

*Squad depth
Flynn is an UFA so wouldn't cost anything.

And he wouldn't be the worst open to replace Campbell on the list as that ruck depth.

Mason Wood replacement plan!

NWM on one wing, Bergman on the other by 2026

He was fairly average on the wing earlier in the year outside of his pre season form. He seems to have found a home as a defensive back but doesn't do a great deal offensively, although intercept marking looks a strength for his size.

That's not to say he can't eventually make an impact up the ground again though. He definitely has the athletic capabilities.

His kicking has been pretty poor this year, but he looks strong in the contest (Richo would love him) and seems to win a lot of one on ones.

I'd be keen but I wouldn't want to give up too much

I must have a go at Lyons here. If you remember youngsters found it very hard to get a game ;look how Armo and Jack Stevens were treated. Hee isnt known for his ability to handle young players. Afteer Windys game last weekend Lyon needs to explaind why Windy isnt playing this week.

He has played Owens Pou NWM every game

We are 5th on the ladder

We traded a near on 250(?) gamer
And we say members is untouchable
I’m saying he isn’t no matter if circumstances are diff
But if it only gets us a mid 30 pick it’s not worth it imo
I’ve being saying trade him but 30 odd isn’t enough
Maybe some kinda 3 way might be better, dunno
Was a terrible decision to trade Dal so not the best example

Last night's performance by Port just highlighted how far our midfield is off the contending sides.

Need to start introducing more kids through there and hope like hell we can find a Rozzee, Butters and JHF.

You have to use high picks and draft them 3 or 4 years ago.

Phillipou was a high pick. No doubt Owens would be if that draft was done again. Nat Fyfe was taken in the 2nd round and was having a big impact in the midfield in his 2nd years so you don't have to wait 4 years before you give them a run in there.

The numbers from our game against them suggest we are around the mark. We edged them in almost every significant stat except maybe tackles, I think. And the scoreboard obviously.

We won centre and stoppage clearance and contested possession. Held a game high lead of 19 points.

I just don’t think we’re as far off the mark as we sometimes lament. We could certainly be made better by some burst speed and more contested energy in the middle.

We have been giving the kids runs in the middle just not full games. You have to balance being competitive at the same time. Lots of the Port kids started as forwards and phased in.

That's exactly why you can't judge a performance purely on stats. We may have woj more clearances but Port looked much better moving the footy from clearance.

We usually do pretty well with contested and clearance numbers but we don't have a lot.of talent in there and lack pace and polish.

You also can't judge who has the better midfield off just one game. Port look a fair way ahead of us with their midfield.

We haven't really though

Phillipou was getting a taste early and then went a month without a centre bounce appearance, Owens only goes in there when he's rucking and Windhager barely end in there when he was playing and is playing VFL. Who else is there?

Hopefully we see it more as the year goes on. It would be nice to have an idea on what they can offer in there

Port were pushing for a flag when Rozzee/Butters came in, but JHF is only a 2nd year player

I agree with most of what you’re saying. I just don’t think we’re as far away from the mark as you’re making out.

I think all we lack is a Butters or Rozee to be honest.

I always hoped Gresham could fill that need but he has been underwhelming this year.

Windhager didn't exactly light the world on fire earlier, the coaches are probably just getting him well rounded to play full games, not as a sub

Totally agree the difference in clearances between us and Port were night and day. On top of that their ability to work out of general congestion by hand and burst running was well ahead of our midfielders. The only relevant stat is was how many of our clearances resulted in goals and again it would be well below Port's.

IMO our midfield is working class at best (excluding Marshall) and we will never win the ultimate prize with the current setups. Its been the full teams defensive efforts and work load that has been winning us games and since that has dropped off our midfield has been horribly exposed.
