Hill seemed incredibly unmotivated under Ratten for whatever reason.
Can't imagine why?

Lachie Ash has put off contract talks with the Giants

He’d suit our running game perfectly, although he is another outside player

I wanted him in his draft year. Will be a star.

Would love to get him. Has serious weapons. I think we have a decent enough continent of inside types now. Just need to keep adding top end talent.
Would make a lot of sense if the long term plan is to move NWM up to a wing

I reckon the club was expecting a lot more from the kids they had at that time.
Coff, Clark, Clav, Pato, King, Bytel looked a pretty appealing group when you think Gresh and JB were also young.
There was nothing wrong with the plan except that the kids got utterly smashed with serious injuries and the appeal of Moorabbin to the top end player market was ZERO.
And whilst we can say that building from the draft may have been preferable, we made the mistake of investing in compromised drafts before and the whole covid mess largely screwed 2 of the 3 drafts during the period you're talking about.
The 2019 draft has not been a great year and I'm not sure we'd be better off since we don't know who the club would have picked (McAsey??). We got Byrnes and still hopes for Leo.
2020 was utter dig s**t and we rightly sat out but still have some ongoing prospects.
2021 was absolutely stellar.
2022 is also looking a bumper crop
2018 also worked out ok-ish in hindsight

I honestly think the plan was just to keep the fans engaged whilst they rebuilt the club's revenue base and then football dpt over 4-5 years.
The lack of 30+ year olds on the list and the influx of youth in the last 2 years says to me that the list build is roughly where it was intended to be and the disconnect is the club knew fans wouldn't cop a 5 year timeline and so it wasn't advertised.
Ratts, although they would have hoped for the best, was just the rebound boyfriend after the long sour marriage and before the next marriage. He kept us distracted for a time.

Whilst the club acknowledged they had not managed to execute the list strategy in full, that was restricted to the inability to attract top end FA's and with the understanding that that is a fixed reality they have pivoted somewhat to a focus on bayside bread targets whilst still perusing the previous options.

I know I'm in the minority on this but l just don't see failure. I see evolution, and a disconnect in expectations V's deliverables.
Damn you’re sexy when you’re right!

lol, Lore's spreadsheet has us provisionally getting pick 18 and Geelong pick 1. What a time to be alive.

It's a worry Joffa... we need elite talent from the top end of the draft to be a contender... having pick 18 because we won the flag may cement us in no-mans-land... quiet concerning.

Absolutely, look at seasons gone where a team has shot up from the bottom 10 and won a flag (Richmond and Melbourne the 2 most recent examples. This season just feels eerily similar to that. Currently, we're bottom 6 for shots on goals and inside 50s yet we're still undefeated. Just imagine what'll happen once we get the cavalry back.
Whoooooaaaaa there. Let's just wait until we've played some good teams

Gun.

Having him and NAS and Sinclair and Stocker and Hill waxing through half back, wing, and the middle? Yum.

Yes please.

If we go to the draft at the end of this year then one of our first 2 picks should be a ruck ....... we need another developing ruck

The other pick should be best mid available

If we go to the draft ......

Why would you want someone that everyone thought was good, but no-one thinks is good anymore?
Opportunity starved 20-22yo players, or players with minor injuries that limit form, that's what I want.

See Jack Steele trade.

Thankfully this is the SOS special, so I expect he'll be all over a few like these guys.

Which one? Bergman looks good and Sinn is just injury prone. Sinn is risky but has talent and with our medical staff having a less than stellar record getting them back on the park it would be a massive dice roll. Bergman if anything will cost too much and rather take a pick at the draft if they want a first rounder.

I am glad that it looks like De Koning is going to re-sign with the blues. Saves us from ourselves. Last thing we need is to pay up a first round pick for a high risk type player.

I don’t think DeKoning is high risk but would definitely be very costly.

He’ll be a very good player.

I’m more than happy to invest in our current talls & maybe look for an upgrade on Campbell while Keeler & Heath develop.

The draft & free agents is my preference.
