To be fair I haven't seen a lot of Dow but I thought he was good against us this year.

You're right that Coffs best has been better, it's a fair while ago though.

Hopefully he stays and has a big year next year.
I always remember this about Dow.

Carlton champion Greg Williams delivers some blunt advice for 2018 AFL Draft No.3 pick Paddy Dow who was dumped from the Blues' line-up to tackle Sydney, just two games after returning from a long-running knee injury.
"I thought just watching him, he's just not desperate enough, not going hard enough and I'm pretty blunt, but I think you get what you deserve." Williams, who has recently coached Dow on a personal level, told SEN.
"Teaguey's (coach David Teague) obviously made it hard for him to get a game which is a good thing because he got a lot of games early, just straight in because he was a low pick."

------ At 24 you would expect him to start to show his best now , a lot of these kids are just not ready for the pressure in there early years and they need to mature mentally and physical before stepping up.

I have not watched Dow play but if he is showing the desperation that Williams said he lacked he might of turned the corner.

But at best he is a late 2nd round pick or early 3rd. (38 to 45 best guess)

All the while with constantly injured Jones and Dmac hanging around…

Devils advocate; Jones and Dmac are burst runners in mid parlance, Coff starred as a floating intercept defender and essentially Geary/Paton upgrade. Highmore getting traded in showed that club was "unsure" about that flank, and it's for this very reason why club shook loose and found Clark a North discussion previously. Something has to break or you get stuck and what should be a 2-3 year cycle ends up a 6-8 year as lookit the GOP's all stuck together rotating in and out of the rehab group.

At that Clark discussion with North and wanting to buy pick 3, if that was Coff instead, how many are chatting with North back then?

Imagine keeping Jones and letting Coff go
OH BOY.
Jones has had enough time to prove his worth and he has shown to be another croc and needs to be moved on - 4 games this year and 13 games the previous 2 seasons before and soft tissue injuries get worse with age and he not getting any younger at 28 1/2yrs of age.
Suppose it will come down to list availbility and there belief that he could be worth keeping.

I reckon he will come good with us. If anything he will be a gun clearance player.
Kicking is crap so he is basically a bigger version of gresh

We have a shocking record with our top 10 picks. With the exception of king weve pretty much cocked every one of them up. Now were throwing one away who actually showed great potential and who is currently fit for FA because he was injured in the PAST. And is still young. Youve got to seriously kidding if true.

Owens has the swagger but needs the skills.
Owens will rip the throat out of a game in 15 mins in a big final one day by doing Mitchito things. At the ground it will be like Moses parting the seas. On t.v it will look ho hum. At the ground the opposition will look like a beaten rabble. 15 mins of ripping a game apart by the throat. He'll get the job done because he can.

Is there actually any smoke to Coffield going or are we just jumping at shadows here because he hasn’t resigned yet?

Can’t see us letting him go over the sake of a 2 year deal. Question will be if he wants to go, and can’t see why he would but if he does want to then it’s out of our hands anyway.

Much more interested in potential pick trading / upgrading strategies the club may come up with.
Most of this crap is caused by there managers and they try and screw you for everything that they can so they can get there %, I bet a fair few players regretted taking there advice.
What does my head in is seeing these long term contracts , some up to 8yrs.
Just like cars some can turn into lemons or the motor blows up way before its due.
It would be good if players came with a warranty.

He's a lot less dynamic than Gresham. Gresh has the nice sidestep and lateral movement. He's sort of like a quicker less productive, less combative Trent Cotchin of something. Cotch hits the ball moving and he has that sort of game.

This highlights reel probably sums up his game best.

He does win clearance, which is what we need

Looking at that we could do with him

He is a clearance specialist

Greg was a great player, but also an early reporter of chronic traumatic encephalopathy for AFL… which leaves me torn, a guy who ruined his life by playing sport desperately; encouraging the next generation to go hard. The game still needs a few tweaks around contests or we're going to see it litigated out of existence.

Plugger said in his book back in his Saint days, Williams was the best player he's seen, bar none. Hard to argue, but Plugger still the best I've seen through my one biased eye. Diesel was right up there though.

He has been ok
Would definitely improve our midfield
Change of club and a second chance might be just what he needs
Dow and Henry improves our list, I would like to keep Coff as well

Sounds like the majority on here would - let’s just hope the club do too, or can convince him to stay if necessary. Would hate to see him go on a short term contract which we don’t match.

Plenty other players to let go before him, I doubt we’re short of list spots.

I would much rather gamble and lose on keeping Coff and he doesn’t ever amount to what he could, versus gambling on letting him go on a squabble of contract terms and he flourishes elsewhere. I hope he comes good for us next year.

A fit Coff, Dow, Henry, perhaps Jordon, would already bolster our stocks in the right age bracket. It’s no magic wand, but it’s progress.

What about scouring for more Steele type value.

Mac Andrew, Aleer, Butler jnr, Sonsie,

Who else with untapped potential could we entice for opportunity and/or cash money?

We need to be reverse Coffield-ing this thing.

Lachie Ash must be homesick, Katandra FMD… get down to the action champ.

Thomson Dow, might as well grab the younger brother while we're doing the whole country thing.

Phlip, Perez, surely some of these gents are vulture-worthy?

What ever happened to Elijah Taylor? Surely he's done his COVID violation sentence now?

Also on the keep Coffield train.

If the general consensus is that Paddy Dow is worth a 3rd rounder, Coffield is there abouts or even less than that, as damning as that is to say.

I would rather sign Coffield to a few years and get absolutely nothing out of him then give him up next month for a pick in the 40’s.

Could be a what if moment if he leaves and his body improves.

I’d rather not risk that for a pick in the 40’s.
