I think we're getting to the point of not seeing the wood for the trees.
I think the things we need to concentrate on are.
1) Injuries, and injury maintenance.
2) We are 17th return for efficiency into the forward 50 at 45.3% per game, Nth 18th at 44.1
3) We are 17th for clearances at 33.8 per game, Bombers 18th at 33.7 per game.
4) We are 17th for centre clearances at 11 per game, Eagles 18th at 10.6 per game.
5) We are 15th for marks inside forward 50 with 11 per game.
These to me are the problems that are obvious. It really doesn't matter how good we think individually our mids are, or how we justify their performances, we are crap in the middle, we have crap delivery into the forwards, no matter how good our forwards' potential is we need something better. Yes that may be about injuries and yes we will get better.
6) The only players that have trade potential are mid-career and best 22, the better they are the better the return for them. That may mean that the best return will hurt the most. I don't think it will happen but if the right deal comes or Steele I'm bracing myself to lose him. The reality of losing Dougal or Battle as excess, I can live with. Losing Clark and Gresh as key integral parts of the second worst or worst midfield in the competition ICGAF.
7) Ross has said that this year is about having a good look at what the list can do, if he is going to cut hard this off season is his first and best chance of doing so.
8) Finishing 7th and in the finals is amazing, if we don't make changes it would be a miracle to make finals again in 2024.
Ideally we would have mids that are powerfull, fast, skillful and make good decisions
We can work with mids that are powerfull but slow and make good decisions
We can work with mids that are fast and skillful and make good decisions but are soft.
We cannot work with mids that are soft, slow, have crap skills and make poor decisions, which is what we have.
