If we really are looking for another ruckman Sam Hayes 24yo a Ferntree Gully lad has been delisted by Port. Surely he would be a better longer term option than Lycett?
Exactly. We are making D Mac wait and only gave Jones 1 year because they've been injury prone. Would be a pretty mixed signal to them pull Lycett out of apparent retirement when he's barely been on the park for 2 seasons. Hayes a perfect backup ruck for Heath to leapfrog this coming season

Some kids do not have there s/it together until they get into there 20s , clubs giving comments about application on a 18 yr old is a joke.
Some of this kids have never even been close to a professional organization , let alone in a professional training regime.
These are the kids that fall through the cracks and never get given the chance to show there true worth and they most probably are more talented than anyone in the top 10.
When we were discussing his drafting, got a couple of unsolicited PM's from a guy living in Adelaide whose son was playing alongside Keeler.
He left the academy and changed schools so he could play SANFL.
The guy was pretty vocal about the poor academy development. Don't know him but had no reason to doubt him.

Will Keeler make it? Who knows, however the academy doesn't seem to be the most reliable place for opinion on young players.

Last few waiting for a contract are Tom Campbell, Mckenzie, Paton?

8 already delisted or traded..

Any recently delisted KPD/3rd tall types?

Might be why he survived the first round of delistings and we found someone else out there since.

Hayden Crozier incoming.

Depends on the club and what resources they have available for it, like previously when we were in Seaford, if we had one, I'd have laughed a hearty laugh at anyone in our academy as we had nada to give them, just smoke up arse platitudes about you'll do well with application and a go getter attitude.

Crows, ever since 2014 when they got their life from the SANFL litigation, straight abusive towards people of colour, hell, even pasty white blokes like Jenkins got winged for collateral, then poster boy captain abuses a young bloke and soz it's in media, my bad for doing it in public, you think that entity gives a shit about development of all people?

The Crows are too busy strongarming the SANFL in "gimmie this, gimmie that, I demand restitution!" to give 2 shits to what players are around, in development, speculative or anything of the sort, so play that field and spread those wings if you're a young person wanting to make it in the wider AFL in the SANFL as originally, VFL/AFL wanted Port and Norwood anyway.

You'd have to think we are into Murphy or ZZ Top with our 2 first round picks now with both Coffield, Adams, and Highmore leaving....

You can't depend upon filling a tall list spot with an 18 year old recruit.
( Players like Gibcus are an exception ).

Before anyone says anything - if the club don't announce it, I don't update it.

OUT OF CONTRACT
2023

6. Sebastian Ross (UFA) - Link
21. Zaine Cordy - Link
32. Mason Wood (CAT A) - Link
36. Daniel McKenzie (RFA) - Link
41. Angus McLennan (CAT B) - Link

There might be better players out there but Campbell's commitment to being a permanent emergency cant be questioned. It's a tough role and he puts in the work despite no reward, while also helping with Heath's development.

As time goes on, the ruckman becomes more like the goalkeeper in soccer. You can only play one, back ups now happy to be just that if it means financial security.

They won’t announce Ross or Wood because they had a games trigger this year. Ross himself confirmed that he had a deal for 2024. I think Wood was mentioned months ago as hitting the trigger. McLennan and McKenzie are OOC though.

Would think he has a career in coach or development the way those in the know at the club speak about him.

I think someone at the club ( Lyon?) has already expressed frustration at the soft cap.
Campbell might be killing 2 birds at once. ( Ruck coach and emergency ruck ).
That might be why he's survived rather than us getting a younger option.

If we had like a 24 year old ruck, i could see it getting to a Longer/Hickey situation between him and Heath.
I'd rather take a younger ruck now or next year.

According to this McLennan is still contracted.
He was only signed up last draft. (A year after Peris /Kyle ).
