WHO WILL be the top pick in this year's Telstra AFL Draft?
AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey believes there is still a group of players in contention, but feels Sam Lalor and Finn O'Sullivan are edging ahead.
"There's a lot of contenders who are worthy of contention and being in the mix. Finn O'Sullivan is one of them, he's played well at VFL level for the Tigers, as has Jagga Smith, who has done that as well over multiple weeks and had a pretty flawless season so both of those guys will have to be in the mix," he said on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio.
"The wildcard within that group is Sam Lalor, who has had a very different season to Jagga in particular in that he's had some injury interruptions. He's a big powerful half-forward/midfielder who dominates games and stands up in big moments. I think he's definitely going to be in consideration for the No.1 pick.
"Josh Smillie has been linked to the Tigers as well. If they end up with pick six I think there's a reasonable chance that he's still available on the board at pick six. Whether they have to start thinking around that at all and who's going to get through, who do you take, who's a chance to be off the board by then, I think that's all the considerations they'd have to make and will be making from a recruiting point of view. They're probably the main guys I see at the moment as being in that mix and then Harvey Langford as well. He's had a really consistent season.
"That's how I'm narrowing it at the moment, but if I was going to narrow it a little bit further I think that Lalor and also O'Sullivan are probably edging ahead in terms of the contention there."
