So we have currently have pick 58, which i gather with 20% discount covers Welsh from pick 55.

If ultimately bid at 45 we can match with 50

My understanding (Vader expert) anything from third round onwards is fine as worse case we get a vey small slippage next year in the third round (eg move from 45 to say 46 or 47 with points deficit carried forward from 2024)

First GC pissing pick 6 and 23 against the wall for an average half back. now North giving away probably pick 5-8 for two picks in the twenties...

It's almost like the AFL world is actively trying to get Richmond back up the ladder....
Don't tell Richmond fans that.

There's a core group who genuinely believe in an AFL conspiracy that deliberately stopped the Tigers winning. The 6-6-6 rule and stand were both brought in to affect their game plan and that the umpires and commentators are constantly biased against them.

They are genuinely deluded and in need of help.

Fox Footy torching Essendon for trading out a pick when their guy didn't get selected ahead of their pick
They thought they’d be able to trade back in. Totally stuffed it up.

What goes around comes around, nobody owes Essendon any favours 🤣

I watched the coverage of the draft and its clear that after the top 10-11 players ranked, the quality really dropped off quickly.

Interesting to note. Ports Berry selection. Small forward, traditionally plays on the weaker defenders in junior levels. only 3 defenders went in the top 27, 5 the previous year and 5 in 2022. Perhaps suggests the quality in the defensive area of the ground was not brilliant. Which probably also explains the high amount of forwards taken in the top bracket.

Im not saying he shouldnt have been drafted. Im just saying perhaps at Ports pick there almost certainly better players available.

You can skip to page 150 for the punch line but I reckon it's better if you read a few pages before that.
That is magnificent. And really fully justified - Berry will be a good player I think but since 2022 they've brought in Willie Rioli, Francis Evans, then last year their top 2 picks were small forwards, then they got Joe Richards this off season and now trading up to pick another small forward in the 1st round. When they have a dearth of quality talls. Remarkable. We should've kept Parnell on the list just for Showdowns.

Even more remarkable when you realise this period of manic small forward collecting coincides exactly with Robbie Gray joining their recruiting team. Sometimes it's better to keep club legends involved at a more peripheral level. Like selling meat raffles.

I hadnt realised this.

I think Gray has the level of talent and knowledge to make comment but it shouldnt be the final say

I guess better draft watchers could comment but were there any long term tall forwards around that mark?

Plenty. Harry Armstrong who was considered a chance for top 10, Jobe Shanahan (I think the best tall in it) both Whitlock twins.

Shanahan may very well fall to Port's 2nd pick at the very least Jack Whitlock would probably be there unless they want to reach for an SA tall in Charlie West but they did just delist SA's Tom Scully and Kyle Marshall who were developing talls

There's still some small forwards on the board for them though.

For all the mega melts about WCE trading pick 3 out - Bo Allan, Liam Baker, Matt Owies and pick 45 doesn't look too bad for a team that needs to fill out a 22 that is competitive.

probably could have had Reid, J Smith midfield combo and traded back into the mid first round to get Allan. Baker was gettable with a 2nd rounder futures, and Owies a packet of chips.

Doubt they would've been able to trade back in for Allan - half the clubs were trying and failing to get back in. They would've needed to give up their F1 which is probably top 3, at least top 5.

Agree that Baker is worth a rd. 2 but that doesn't mean he was gettable for that, especially with Freo lurking. He is only 26, dual premiership player, consistently high in the B&F. The type of player WC need for where they are. Owies was a packet of chips but he still kicked 30+ goals last year and gives them another best 18 player.

They also should get a top 25 player at 45 with the depth of this year's draft.

For a team that's talent drops off sharply after around player 15 and needs to be avoid more demoralising losses for morale and development, feel that's a pretty good combined trade off for one pick.

The way the cards are falling, its not out of the realms they end up with one of shanahan / whitlock and moraes and then it looks a good draft for them overall
Taking another small forward with their only premium poick when they already have 3 times more than you can actually play, doesn't make for a good draft. I also think you give them way too much credit that they planned that Shanahan and J Whitlock may not go in the 18 picks between 15 and 33.

Expect Moraes to go with one of the Bulldogs early 2nd rd picks and they probably get an F1 with clubs coming for their other one - likely for one of those talls.

Maybe so, i hope they butcher the remainder of the draft as its better for us.
As an aside, imagine having a couple of 20's picks in the draft and using 1 f them to have secured north's f1...the possibilities next year would have been unreal. Use to trade for NWM or maybe Phillipou, bundle up and try for Sharpe or grab 2 another 2 kids in the 1st round with one maybe top 5

Outside Butters, their drafting has been appalling across the past decade. If they couldn't convince established players to come to them, they'd be consistently bottom 4.

Yes agreed - and I've heard all the arguments for ANB a thousand times over but trading a 2nd for a 29 yr old defensive forward, as well as using a 1st on a half back in Ryan last year along with all the unproven players signed to multi year deals - we could have a cache for top end talent. Heard some lament Reid possibly leaving, I'd celebrate that with relish.
