What does Steele lack as captain?
They only have 2 trade down options it seems.

Richmond is apparently only willing to offer: 10+18

We would offer 7/8 + F1

If they are desperate for Tauru. Only one pick guarantees that outcome.

Infact our offer gives them Armstrong or Tauru.
North May keep their powder dry until draft night..if Richmond take Jagger or FOS, they may pick Lalor
If Lalor goes #1, they may trade their pick

All these trade possibilities for 2…maybe North just take him at 2

1. Lalor
2. Tauru
3. FOS
4. Draper
5. Langford
6. Smillie/Jagga
7. Jagga/Smillie
8. Allan

I think my preferred route at current is to grab #2 using 8 + F1

And slide 7 back targeting the giants who would probably bend over backwards for Travaglia.

Twomey AGAIN linking us to Armstrong at 7/8

Armstrong a real chance for us now having delisted Membrey and Hayes.

Thinking we will get 2 of Smillie, Ried, Armstrong, Travaglia. Don't think Tauru makes it to our pick.

Don't think we reach for Allan but he is a smoky.

That would be wild. Considering Twomey doesn’t have him that high as of this morning.

He also made clear that trading in your F1 seeking an additional pick just isn’t holding the same currency.

I agree it seems Richmond are red hot on Smillie as their List Manager Hartley coached him in the juniors. If Richmond dont trade up with North, then they take Smillie who should otherwise slide. There is a good chance they rate Smillie at pick #2 and would take him there in any event, so why trade up when you dont have to.

It would be a shame as I think Smillie is the perfect player for us at pick #7 and pick #8 is the floater - trade out, Reid, Allan, Travaglia, Lindsay.

The upside to the Richmond v North stand off, is our offer is the next best available for North. My thinking is Dalrymple wants Smillie at #7 and if Richmond hold pick #6 they will take him, hence the club then have the contingency offer to North to move up to pick #2. If that happens who we take at 2 is a raffle - O'Sullivan, Draper, Smillie, Langford, Smith.

Richmond hold all the cards, they are not desparate to trade up but North are desparate to trade back and get another 1st round pick. North would be asking for an unrealistic price for the swap and basically shooting themselves in the foot. Rawlings is not the sharpest operator, they gave up pick #25 for a vertically challenged player in a draft full our key positional players. They are now obviously desparate to get back into the draft which is laughable really.
The 2 players that I think would make a big difference to us would be FOS and Lalor

Melbourne is the wildcard at pick 5. They could grab Tauru if North trades-back.

It depends on which mids Demons think could be there at pick 9. But we are sitting in front of them with either pick 7 or 8 (if we trade-up) while Tigers have pick 6.

It is this fact that North will be considering when consider whether to trade-back pick 2.

Anyway - plenty of options to hypothesise but ultimately it seems like the club was right yet again.

They will be able to land some great talents and they are in a great position in the draft.

Similar to their belief they would get band 1 for Battle.

I mean it is simple logic that 5 & 6 is better than 7 & 8, more chance of getting the players you want.

However would anyone want Jye Amiss, Josh Gibson or Erasmus over NAZ? Tsatsas, Jhye Clark or Gibney over Pou? Or about four others before Wilson.

It gives you a chance to select top players but you have to take that chance. The draft is littered with missed chances. Two spots doesn't guarantee us anything.
As it stands there may be a good chance we trade up for 2. If thats the case and we keep 7, we have used the band 1 pick that we probably dont get if we are pick 5, the AFL would have given us an end of first round pick (we know how the AFL operates)
Pou, Nas and Wilson....hard to imagine us doing better than that with our draft positions.
Lots of confidence in us making the right decision in 3 weeks time.

If we achieve this

Out: 7, 8, 32 & F1
In: 2, 15, 16, 21

possibly a F2 out aswell (the rumoured deal has us acquiring norths F2)

Then your looking at this potential draft haul:

2: FOS/Lalor/Jagga

15 + 16: Trainor Hotton Lindsay Reid Shanahan

21: Hynes Whitlock Dodson

+ Cole Peckett Hofmann
Gotta feeling Shanhan will end up the best tall forward from this year’s crop

Really our best selling point is to offer pick 7 and F1 to North for 2.

In effect enables us to trade P8 to say GWS and not impact Norths selection. If we dont trade 8 we still get the player we would have at 7 (if we guarantee North we dont select Tauru, in return they dont match LDU and they get a top 5 band1 compo)
It also looks better to the nuffie supporter who only sees P7 and future First, and make them feel like they won the pick swap, getting us to use our first pick, without realising it means sfa.
North would be desperate to hold on to LDU. There is no way that his name would even be brought up in a potential pick trade.

Why? If he is a FA next year and decides to leave, of course he would be discussed, maybe not in trade negotiations but with Gubby and North and managers off to the side.
If LDU was desperate to sign with North he would have done so.

I agree his games for Essendon in the VFL were a step above any other key forward in the draft. He plays with that Carey like presence, he is a true key forward in every sense in my view. Plus he can also play at CHB which shows his capacities above the others. Armstrong gets his hands to too many contested marks and spills them in my view, he is more of the quick leading style forward who requires good delivery.

This is just fantasy stuff mate. If he does decide to leave it is almost certainly not going to be St Kilda, there is no way we he would have made any commitment to us this far out. So the idea that the club may attribute any value to the promise of North Melbourne that they won't match an offer to a player unlikely to nominate us 12 months from now is a bit silly.

Ok mate, obviously you are the doyen of all things trading and drafting.
This is a footy forum for shitposting, don't need your condescending bs. Don't like my posts put me on ignore. Don't need you arrogance. Maybe go back to your mates on the Essendon board.

8 + F1 for pick 2 then drafting Armstrong at 7 would be a horrific overall draft night.
Absolutely. We need mids only one I would take who isn't a mid is Tauru

I dont see the correlation.

Using a Top 10 pick to replace someone who was depth and someone pushed out by young talent already on the list doesn't make a lot of sense.

Moama boy. Only the best!

So Smillie looks gone for us - thats shit house....I guess if we grab FOS we will cope.
