So Tigers are happy to stick because they think its such an even draft. NM want to trade down because they think its such an even draft. We want to trade up because we don't think its such an even draft????
Just stick with 7 and 8 and F1 boys unless something really stupid gets offered on the night.
Thats the advice I will be giving SOS and co before COB this afternoon.
North and Richmond have different priorities to us for this draft. North need to fill up on KPP, Richmond are at the very start of their rebuild. We are trying to do something different to them both. The draft being 'even' depends on your priority, not a difficult concept to grasp.

Not quite.

Richmond think there is little difference in the talent between 2 and 6.

If no tall is taken before our pick. It’s conceivable we miss out on the tier 1 rated mids.

Reid sounded like he would go around p10/11 in gettable.

So we jump into 2, Richmond take Smillie at 6 (if rumours are true). Leaves Melbourne as our only hope to take a tall before pick 7.

If we are not getting Smillie, Langford or Smith at #7, I would be keen to trade up. If North are banking on Tauru they wont want us trading out ahead of them, so they would be targetting #7. It would be robbing Peter to pay Paul, but perhaps pick #8 becomes really attractive to other clubs wanting to get ahead of Melbourne & Richmond or perhaps as Stav has mentioned Richmond get tempted.

There is no end of intrugue with the draft this year, I am like a little kid waiting for XMas to come around!:smilev1:

It makes Carlton's effort to trade up to pick #3 targetting O'Sullivan even more impressive. They were in a win win scenario if FOS is taken they take Draper, good on them for having the balls to throw the kitchen sink at this draft. They are recruiting for the now, they know they have the bones of a very good side (injuries allowing) and are going all chips in. Plus we forget they will get two highly rated father sons in the Camporeale twins. Their one weakness is they probably need another quality key defender.

Unfortunately we are a couple of years behind in our list development - midfielders ?, we also need an elite big key defender and another quality ruckman. Lets hope this draft brings us two elite mids, perhaps Cole becomes a similiar player to Weitering who is not the all time interceptor but is rarely beaten, and a quality ruckman miraculously appears.
I think my preferred route at current is to grab #2 using 8 + F1

And slide 7 back targeting the giants who would probably bend over backwards for Travaglia.

Twomey AGAIN linking us to Armstrong at 7/8

Difference is we have specific needs that are likely unavailable at our pick 8. Richmond just need talent everywhere so it’s much easier for them to pick between their options. They’d be happy with a much wider range of players than us. North need talls and they come in later in the draft, hence trading down

Imo we need speedy mids with goal sense and class. Reid is the only guy at 8 but there are doubts from recruiters about his ability to do it from the midfield - he’s also not a guarantee to be available. Allan is the other one but I think there’d be a consensus that FOS is a much more high-quality and balanced player than him

Thing is we could do a hand-shake agreement where we give them 8 and guarantee we won’t take Tauru at 7

This helps us if we are interested in 2. Pick 8 could be the highest slide-back North can get

Maybe we could trade 7 for 2 + F1 if we know North will take either Tauru or Armstrong. That might be more appealing to North.

Effectively means pick 8 gives us the same options as pick 7 if we are targeting a sliding mid.

Imagine if Smith then drifted to us. FOS and Smith. Quite a haul there.

Allen worries me. Although he can kick he often doesn't and his first instinct is to hadnball instead of work in and out of traffic.

I worry about his ability to exit stoppages. Although he is fast I don;t think he uses his speed to exit stoppages. However, he is enormous and tackles hard.

I worry he ends up more Aiden Bonnar then anyone else.
This is not a go at you.... but, how many minutes have you watched him play?
Apart from the received footage have we seen what any of these players do off the ball ?
St Kilda may pick the wrong player. But they won't do it with less information than us watching at home.

Richmond interruption.
This is the most sensible idea. If North take Tarau at two we both benefit as quality mids drop. If North take a midfielder then Tarau is available to you at pick 8 if you want.

Out: 7, 8, 32 & F1
In: 2, 15, 16, 21

Certainly trading-up for pick 2 and trading-back from pick 8 is a genuine compromise. Don’t mind it. The above scenario gives us 4 first round picks this year.

But I wouldn’t trade pick 8 until the last moment. We would want to see who is there in case a gem slides.

For what it’s worth.

Twomey gave his top 6 in his phantom - not linked to a club.

Jagga FOS Lalor Langford Ashcroft Draper are his certainties within the top 6 picks.

Smillie + Tauru likely top 10

Allan Reid Travaglia Armstrong possible top 10

It also benefits Richmond the most, as you get to Pick your preference at 1 and 6, before we even get our first pick. Not really ideal.

Yeah thats correct if we are trading with North p7 or p8 doesn't matter if it is a player they want, as the same players will still be available at 8

So, who is going to Norf at 2 or 6, thought they are into Tauru

Yuck. Disgusting ball drop
“Many of Armstrong's scores come from his sound set shot goalkicking. His conversion rate of 27.10 for Sandringham Dragons this season was exceptional, and his 9.3 at the National Championships”

73% from combined set shots

So if they are certainties in the top 6 and North really want Tauru and we have 7 and 8.......

They only have 2 trade down options it seems.

Richmond is apparently only willing to offer: 10+18

We would offer 7/8 + F1

If they are desperate for Tauru. Only one pick guarantees that outcome.

Infact our offer gives them Armstrong or Tauru.

What does Steele lack as captain?

As far as onfield leadership is concerned Rowan Marshall is the one who really puts the side on his shoulders in games, his media presentations are good but perhaps he is bit too jovial for the role.

We dont know if Wilkie wants the top job, but at times Steele struggles with his onfield leadership and presence. Plus he struggles in front of the media, perhaps he and Wilkie could share the role, with Marshall as Vice Captain.

Really our best selling point is to offer pick 7 and F1 to North for 2.

In effect enables us to trade P8 to say GWS and not impact Norths selection. If we dont trade 8 we still get the player we would have at 7 (if we guarantee North we dont select Tauru, in return they dont match LDU and they get a top 5 band1 compo)
It also looks better to the nuffie supporter who only sees P7 and future First, and make them feel like they won the pick swap, getting us to use our first pick, without realising it means sfa.

If we achieve this

Out: 7, 8, 32 & F1
In: 2, 15, 16, 21

possibly a F2 out aswell (the rumoured deal has us acquiring norths F2)

Then your looking at this potential draft haul:

2: FOS/Lalor/Jagga

15 + 16: Trainor Hotton Lindsay Reid Shanahan

21: Hynes Whitlock Dodson

+ Cole Peckett Hofmann
