I think we are overthinking things tbh. The midfield class is so even up to 7. It's obvious by all the discussion.

If no talls taken before 7 - pick the sliding mid and the Viking at 8. (Unless we get a ridiculous offer)

If there are 1 or even 2 talls taken before 7 - Pick the 2 best sliding mids. (Unless we get a ridiculous offer)

If we want another pick in the late teens or early 20's float next years 1st. I personally wouldn't bother. Maybe buy in later with a F2 if there's someone we rate that hasn't been selected.

Tauru at 2 is a stretch.

Towmey thinks he is between 7 to 10 and 6 mids are 'certainties to be in the top 6.
Comes down to how badly North wants him - fair to assume North wants to trade down but they need one of Melbourne, Richmond or us to bite (in order of preference). If they can't swing a trade, they may have to do what GWS did with Cadman and take him earlier than they should.

Jay Clark-

St Kilda has told clubs it is open to splitting one of its top-10 selections in this year’s draft as part of a strategy to capitalise on the depth in this year’s talent pool.
The Saints have picks seven and eight in this year’s draft and have indicated they could be interested in trading one of them for two picks later in the first round.

The two clubs best-placed to do a deal with the Saints are Richmond (which has 18, 20 and 23) and GWS Giants (15, 16 and 21).
This article contains features which are only available in the web versionTake me there
It means the Saints could take a top-line midfielder at pick seven and then snare two players in the back-end of the first-round with its Josh Battle compensation selection.
It would be a bold call from the Saints but recruiters are excited about the level of talent on offer through the back end of the first-round.

The move would effectively see the Saints take three players potentially inside the top-20 of a draft scouts are calling the strongest in several years.

St Kilda may also pull the trigger on draft night, depending on what players are available at pick seven and eight and what deals the Giants and Tigers are prepared to complete.

Sounds like we could be on with my proposal this morning.

Out: 7,8,32, F1

Wow that would shake things up! I praised Carlton for chasing pick #3 this morning, but that would be some ballsy trading by the club and could set us up for years! Hopefully the deal also incudes getting something in 2025 back from North?

Given that Ashcroft, Kako & Lombard expected to be bid on before hand, it would have us taking 18, 19 & 24 (if Marshall is not bid on in that time).

I would be happy to keep 7 & 8 and draft the 2 best mids on offer at those picks

Splitting 8 for 15 & 16 means we probably miss out on that 2nd decent mid .... as Allen Reid Lindsay & Travaglia (not exactly a mid) would all be very likely gone

Hotton I just cannot warm to ..... he isn't a true mid ..... coming off an ACL and his disposal (kicking) is very questionable .... and we just delisted his brother

And Trainor (not a mid) .... if use pick 15 or 16 on him you are braver than me with his supposed history of concussion ..... if you believe the stories .... unless we know otherwise

We don't need any KPPs but we do need another developing ruck which we should be able to grab at pick 32 .... Dodson or Gerreyn
Any picking swapping will unfold on draft night

If we do try and trade up to pick 2 then North will want another 1st rounder for this year not our F1 .... so a 3rd club would need to get involved

I'd be in favour of a pick swap 7&8 for 5&9, I think there is a chance we could get Jagga Smith at 5 and Josh Smillie at 9.

I’d do that in a heartbeat. But how would we convince Melbourne that it is worthwhile for them to do that deal?

They are sliding back two picks from 5 to 7 and upgrading one pick from 9 to 8.

Surely, we would only trade-down pick 8 into later multiple picks, if we also trade-up pick 7 into pick 2.

I can accept that because it seems likely that the best six mids will probably be gone after pick 6.

An elite mid, which we wouldn’t get at pick 7, and then several bites of the cherry with the later picks in an even draft.

In this scenario we have four first round picks this year.

I would want North to swap their F2 for our F3 if we traded 7 & F1 for 2. Not sure they would provide a F2 on its own.

Agree. Rather 2 x top 10 picks than a pick 2 and getting 2 x players 15 & 16 compared to what we can get at pick 8. Quality over quantity
I seriously just don’t get us. Unless we are moving up or using future picks to get back into the end of the first round I don’t get it. The only one I’d be half keen on is gws 15-16

Got to bait the hook if you want clubs to bite doesn’t mean we trade the pick but encourages everyone to talk to us I like the Richmond trade back to 10 and whatever more than the GWS picks I think we potentially still get Allan at 10 maybe even Reid Travaglia I think by 15 16 there is a drop to Hynes etc then by 20 you are into all those talls

But ultimately putting the bait out will ensure a bit of competition for the pick

The same tiering of players at P8 will be available at 21.

It’s a huge group who would all appeal to different clubs.

For example: Cal Twomey said Jack Whitlock could go as high as p10 to Richmond

Likely in that group:

Alix Tauru
Murphy Reid
Tobie Travaglia
Harry Armstrong
Bo Allan
Luke Trainor
Taj Hotton
Jobe Shanahan
Xavier Lindsay
Joe Berry
Jack Whitlock
Matt Whitlock
Alex Dodson
Cooper Hynes
Jesse Dattoli
Jonty Faull
