I’d rather keep 7 & 8 but what do I know eh
It will depend on what happens by pick 7.
I think playing around with pick 8 is going to be a last minute decision depending who’s still on the board.
I’m happy with that.
No need to do anything early. Just sit back and wait. And I think that’s what we’ll do.

Unless, of course we are absolutely desperate to get#2 pick.

Hey JB. Why is it a loser attitude? Its actual fact. The Higgins kick moved us from 5&6 to 7&8.

Let’s not pretend it didn’t. And let’s not pretend that win will significantly change our culture.

I wanted us to win that game as much as anyone. But it may well prove costly. It also may not. Nothing to do with loser mentality.

I don’t think it’s as simple as that. The AFL FA compo herbs and spices could consider all sorts of things. If we dont put up our best effort against Carlton because we want a lower pick, and the compo for battle is looking like pick 6 the do they AFL look a bit more harshly on us? Imagine the outrage from other clubs is we had 5 & 6?

Instead, we held up our end of the bargain. Didn’t tank, gave them a great exciting game in round 23 instead of a dead rubber, fought hard to keep battle (offered him more money than hawks instead of pushing him out the door because of the compo).

Taking into account of Ashcroft, Lombard, and Kako our picks now could be 10 & 11. But if we had’ve turned up our toes in rnd23. The AFL may have thought “stuff these guys, pick 6 compo is too much given what they served up”. Then we end up with 6 (accounting for Ashcroft being bid on only) and 21, instead of what we have now.

Plus all the other intangibles, culture, enthusiasm, belief for 2025. Take the win, be a serious team every time you head out there.

Hey guys, seen a few suggestions from you guys trading pick 8 for our 10 & 18. No way we do that.
Wow we have the list manager on BF. We had the Bulldogs list manager on during the trade telling us they would never accept pick 45 for Macrae as well.

There’s no way FOS slides to 6, you don’t need to go around trying to talk him down to everyone😂😂
I just like FOS. Always rated top few, even while injured. I watched that Zebs vs Rich VFL game and was amazed at, even with low stats, how he made our players look ordinary with his stepping and pure skills. Jagga played the same game and killed the stats, but only one of them looked special. Get him fit and he looks a level above. Will be intersting to see how our recruiters view things...

Wait, what?

Essendon is weighing up a move to off-load Melbourne’s future first-round choice for a first-round pick in this year’s draft.
However the move will have to come after a bid for Essendon small forward and next generation academy prospect Isaac Kako.
It means if a bid comes around pick 10 for Kako, Essendon could trade Melbourne’s future first-round pick for something in the teens of this year’s draft.
The Bombers’ first pick is otherwise slated to be number 28, but Essendon will eagerly eye a jump into this year’s crop if a trade partner can be secured.

St Kilda has told clubs it is open to splitting one of its top-10 selections in this year’s draft as part of a strategy to capitalise on the depth in this year’s talent pool.
The Saints have picks seven and eight in this year’s draft and have indicated they could be interested in trading one of them for two picks later in the first round.
The two clubs best-placed to do a deal with the Saints are Richmond (which has 18, 20 and 23) and GWS Giants (15, 16 and 21).

It means the Saints could take a top-line midfielder at pick seven and then snare two players in the back-end of the first-round with its Josh Battle compensation selection.
It would be a bold call from the Saints but recruiters are excited about the level of talent on offer through the back end of the first-round.
The move would effectively see the Saints take three players potentially inside the top-20 of a draft scouts are calling the strongest in several years.

St Kilda may also pull the trigger on draft night, depending on what players are available at pick seven and eight and what deals the Giants and Tigers are prepared to complete.
Richmond has picks 1, 6, 10, 11, 18, 20, 23 and 24 and are keen to swap some of the choices into next year’s draft pool to help diversify its draft assets.
That will allow the Tigers to balance its draft capital across two draft pools after losing four players in the trade period – Shai Bolton, Liam Baker, Jack Graham and Daniel Rioli.
Former Richmond national recruiting manager Matt Clarke has taken over the list management at West Coast and has come under extreme fire for swapping pick three to Carlton in the trade period.
The Eagles dealt pick three to Carlton for picks 12 and 14, giving the Blues a chance to land a star draft prospect including highly-rated midfielder Finn O’Sullivan.
Former West Coast great Peter Sumich said the deal for pick three was “the wrong move” and was adamant the Eagles gave up overs for ex-Tiger Liam Baker, saying “no way is he worth pick 14”.
“Pick three has been a gold nugget. Are we idiots?” Sumich said on WA radio 91.3FM.

This was the article.

Clark is trying to be too clever with his tweet, the actual article is all about seperate pick trades with different clubs.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the reasons why we are looking at 15&16

Especially from 1:52

A great alternative to Sam Lalor. Taller, more durable and almost just as powerful. Midfield craft his biggest issue but can easily be trained, as we saw with Pou. Also needs to tidy up his kicking

FOS, Lindsay/Hotton/Trainor/Berry, Hynes, Dodson/Faull would be an immense haul even if we have to sacrifice an F1

List sizes prior to Friday. Paton expected to land at the Giants

I really like this post. Clubs can be coy all they want, but in the end their list spots tell the tale of how they will approach the draft period (DFA, ND, PSD, RD, SSP).

I think this is a little off (or the table is misleading) because I count 36 players currently on our list (including Macrae).

With a total of 44 players, it means we have 8 spots left.

STARTING POINT: 7, 8, 32, 47 + AC + LH + EP + Sandy Rookie

Some of my thoughts:

1. If we somehow get an additional pick in this year's draft, I'm unsure who misses out getting drafted (maybe EP?)

2. This doesn't give us much flexibility for DFAs or SSPs unless Crouch is truly buggered and can't get through preseason.

I think we have made a blunder keeping Crouch (or Jones) over an Olli Hotton who has struggled to get a run on but is young and talented - appears to clash with our overall strategy.

3. As much as I think we will commit to the planned Sandy Rookie, I think it really limits flexibility in our list management at this time of year. Opportunities arise!

The prime example would be signing Max Knobel as a DFA or in the RD, a great opportunity and list need, but now we don't have the space.

Anywho, this exercise has made me a but despondent about how our list is currently being managed, and hopefully after this entire period is over the strategy makes some sense to the average punter like me.

I think we all agree that the Sandringham commitment is a spanner in this years draft plan. But we’re in for a pound now.

As for Hotton I think he was up against it with young talent like Garcia and Hastie running around in the twos. And then we’ve got pick 7 & 8 just about to come in and stake their claims.

It’s a tough call for sure, but I don’t think it’s outrageous.

I am happy to see that St Kilda delistings are starting to become worthy of getting picked up by other clubs. It speaks to the emerging quality of our squad.

I would not be surprised to see Crouch either retire or put on the long term injury list before the season commences to free up a ninth spot.
