not sure I understand.. we have (30+4). +2 Cat B meaning 36 players.. we can have a max of 44 +2 Cat B ? We know that we will again have 2 Cat B rookies next year .. so we can have up to 46 players and we currently have 36? Is that right? Does that include MacRae?
I really like this post. Clubs can be coy all they want, but in the end their list spots tell the tale of how they will approach the draft period (DFA, ND, PSD, RD, SSP).

I think this is a little off (or the table is misleading) because I count 36 players currently on our list (including Macrae).

With a total of 44 players, it means we have 8 spots left.

STARTING POINT: 7, 8, 32, 47 + AC + LH + EP + Sandy Rookie

Some of my thoughts:

1. If we somehow get an additional pick in this year's draft, I'm unsure who misses out getting drafted (maybe EP?)

2. This doesn't give us much flexibility for DFAs or SSPs unless Crouch is truly buggered and can't get through preseason.

I think we have made a blunder keeping Crouch (or Jones) over an Olli Hotton who has struggled to get a run on but is young and talented - appears to clash with our overall strategy.

3. As much as I think we will commit to the planned Sandy Rookie, I think it really limits flexibility in our list management at this time of year. Opportunities arise!

The prime example would be signing Max Knobel as a DFA or in the RD, a great opportunity and list need, but now we don't have the space.

Anywho, this exercise has made me a but despondent about how our list is currently being managed, and hopefully after this entire period is over the strategy makes some sense to the average punter like me.
I think we can have 44 + 2 Cat B rookies? So 46 in total? We have McLellan and OConnel who I guess will stay there.
Does your 36 include the Cat B rookies? Do we actually have 10 spots.

I also doubt Crouch will play. Even if he is not cut from th elist due to his contract, we may put him on the LTI and pick up someone in the pre season period to replace his spot.

I think we all agree that the Sandringham commitment is a spanner in this years draft plan. But we’re in for a pound now.

As for Hotton I think he was up against it with young talent like Garcia and Hastie running around in the twos. And then we’ve got pick 7 & 8 just about to come in and stake their claims.

It’s a tough call for sure, but I don’t think it’s outrageous.

I am happy to see that St Kilda delistings are starting to become worthy of getting picked up by other clubs. It speaks to the emerging quality of our squad.

I would not be surprised to see Crouch either retire or put on the long term injury list before the season commences to free up a ninth spot.

Yes my understanding is that it’s 44 (senior and rookie combined) + 2 Cat Bs.

The list I provided includes Macrae.

HOWEVER Sharman is still listed as a Cat A as is Caminiti Heath Hall.

You would imagine Sharman needs to be elevated now.

Can someone please clarify how we take all those NGA players and all of our draft selections? Don’t we need to use draft picks to select our NGA players?
