I don’t think any rocket us up and it wasn’t my point.

My point was we need to start genuinely building via the draft with top end picks. A midfield brigade.

If we keep sticking to the middle of the ladder. Hoping for free agents. We will hit a rebuild.

Langford/Smillie/Draper etc would all fill major needs. Would all help us start to put the pieces of our puzzle together.

We scream about it every year how we don’t have them. Well we have all the currency and assets to do something about it and it doesn’t sit well with me if we don’t.
Would you be happy trading pick 7 & 8 for pick 2?…because unfortunately that’s what it would take for North to budge

I think you've nailed it there.

The recruiter believes that clubs are no longer simply taking the best player on the draft board, with clubs now preferring to target players that have specific traits to fit into the coach’s game style.

This new outlook on drafting could see draft bolters and sliders become more of a thing as teams have wildly different rankings.

“There’s certainly a lot more structure now in terms of specific traits for specific roles,” Dalrymple told SEN Afternoons.

“We’re really homing in on that part (of recruiting) and then also getting alignment with the club, coach, and the game style, and making sure that there's really strong alignment between recruiting and coaching.

“That’s so that we're identifying players that can fit into the coach’s game plan.

“I think that's probably really drilled down over the last few years compared to early days where it was just looking at just best players available and thinking, ‘Ok, their talent should get them through’.

“Now, it's more specific around traits for roles.”
Jeez if I was Bassat I'd be sacking Dalrymple on the spot if that's what he thinks.

The average coaching life of a coach who doesn't win a premiership is 4 years.

The average time it takes for players to fully understand their roles is about 4 years and average span of a "game style" is about 4 years.

So essentially recruiting players for a coach and a game style that most likely won't exist when the player hits their peak.

Recruit for where you think the game is headed and for your list needs.

Might be unpopular, but if we had something lined up to get back into the first round with our future pick then yes I would.
So is 7 and F1 to little for 2? Anyway why would North do that if they aren't guaranteed Tauru at 7?

We’ve nearly had the whole Kanga fanbase drop in for a comment, probably just a couple more to go
It’s okay for fans to drop in.

Just weird for the ones who act like campaigners.

They still won’t exit the bottom 5 next year. Even with all their glorious midfielders.

The Crows should help a fellow South Australian team (us) out and take Langford at their pick.

I would be happy with a haul of Draper and 'Albino Whitfield' at pick seven and eight.

Plenty of water to go under the bridge over the next two days it seems. We will be linked to every player in the next 48 hours.

Suddenly a potential haul of Draper and Tauru looks pretty darn good.

There is a lot to play out.
well if we get Draper it is only because Melbourne took Tauru.. So there is zero chance we get both Draper and Tauru..

So it is Tauru OR Draper...

I guess if it is Draper, then Tauru becomes the next Charlie Curnow and Draper becomes the next paddy Dow.. but if we get Tauru, he probably becomes the next Zane Cordy and Draper is the next Lachie Neale

No I wouldn’t.

But I think pick 3 went cheaply and we could have done that by seemingly splitting 8
Have you ever stopped to think that’s not how we rate the top 6 mids and we expect or expected one to make it through to us. We may well think that the quality of Tauru and other talls is higher than that of the mids, there’s no reid in this draft.

There is a Reid in this draft, he's quite good. Don't know if this thread has discussed him yet?

Missions owns words yesterday was that we wanted a mid and hoped 1 or 2 sat at our picks.

So however they rate this drafts top end.

They think/hope they get a mid.

Cals mock was no mid.

So if that’s how it played out. They ****ed up.

Tassie cash going, going, gone and selling home games to the west. Norf are really going places, they should have moved to tassie now they’re just screwed.

I love that even the messiah of mock drafts still doesn't really know what the hell is happening. Buckle up, lads, draft night is going to be fun.
But this is always how Cal presents. Lots of different options, lots of grey. It might be true this year, but I think it’s his general commentary that is very similar to most years.

I slept on it and all in on Tauru now.

BrutThough had me leaning towards him over the past few weeks but now I want him as one of our first two picks.

Ideally I want one of the midfielders to pair with him but if it’s Travaglia I won’t be too disappointed.

Bring on tomorrow.

Twomey isn’t sure how the draft will unfold. He’s mulling over various scenarios without the certainty of previous years.

I’d say clubs are still genuinely undecided or the evenness has several reassessing their selections.

Crows taking Langford or Tigers changing their minds about pick 6 has a significant cascading effect on who is there for us.

Only if we don’t land a mid at 7 and only if we rated 3 well over 7 and mids even to or over the rest.
