That’s the 2020 draft which we’ve now had ample time to access. The players were taken at Richmond’s picks in this years draft, enjoy tigers fans your rebuild will be complete if you can do as well 🤣🤣.

It was a very ordinary draft but my point is you have to nail the picks. We have two picks in a great spot 7/8, I want us to pick best avaliable according to our criteria and hopefully we’ll look back in 4 years and be amazed at how we landed the best two players in the draft.

I think all of Travaglia Lindsay and Allan all have question marks on whether they become mids or flankers long term.

Of the 3 I think Allan has the best prospect of becoming a mid but that might end up being more of the defensive mid using his athleticism to stop rather than create. He would need to add a bit to his football craft to be the elite mid we are looking for. I thought he was worth the risk if we were pairing him with one of the proven mids but maybe not if he is the only one. His upside is all based on his athletic profile, size and physicality in the contest. I like him a lot and would be ok either way if we flipped and went for him. The under-rated part is that competitiveness, he has impact which I like a lot.

Lindsay I think is the least likely to end up a centre square mid more likely HB Wing High HF role. Ultimately I think he has similar attributes to Wilson and similar size - not quite as good a runner and a slightly better kick but a skill set more suited to an outside role. Will be a good player but a bit vanilla and no real POD with what we have. I think he has about as much chance of being a mid as Wilson does so don't get why we would double up.

Travaglia to me is probably the best of the three if I was basing it off what they do right now. He is a high possession HB Wing and sometime midfielder but mainly and clearly proven the best running HB in the draft. He was fantastic in the Champs just won contests intercepted at will and rebounded with speed. He has courage, he tackles and he just keeps running. The midfield possiblity is there because he is fine in close and can get in and out of congestion. Is that his best spot long term maybe not but I think he has a shot at being a mid. Either way on best available he certainly fits the bill I think he is clearly the better prospect of the 3. Also he has the leadership and competitiveness that drives players to unexpected heights.

So I am OK with Travaglia concerned about the future of our midfield still but looks like we are going to have to piece that together over time with a little bit of luck. I was hoping we could solve that problem in this draft like everyone else but that seems unlikely. Even if we do get a midfield slider I think we will still take Travaglia with one of our picks.

stavro#4 don't worry mate, we've all been there. I've been there multiple times over the past few months. You've been so invested in trades and draftees I get how you are feeling. Pour a nice glass of whisky and resign yourself to getting the two players you least like. Anything else will be a positive outcome for you that way.

Came to the realisation today that the best players from this draft could easily end up being Tauru, Trainor, Armstrong, Shanahan, the Whitlocks and Dodson.

Just rewatched their tapes, some bloody impressive footballers among them!
Exactly, it’s not just what you’re watching with guys at that age it’s what they will become.

My mate works at the RSEA park Linton street Cafe; he was grabbing a bag of coffee beans in the back room when he walked past Ross holding a meeting in the conference room. Apparently this is our new game plan for 2025 :persevere:

Ross forgot to do the 6, 6, 6 field. We are going to get so many free kicks against us next year

I've heard whispers that club legend Jonathon Marsh will be presenting our young draftees with their jumpers.

[Travaglia] was fantastic in the Champs just won contests intercepted at will and rebounded with speed.
The intercepting isn't getting enough attention. Travaglia was one of the best (if not the best) at the champs in that regard. Contested and uncontested.

I get that people want a clearance beast and Travaglia isn't that. If we do end up taking him, I think people will warm to him. More scores come from intercepts than from clearances. The best presents are the ones you didn't know you wanted.

a month or so ago our pick 8 was going to be an end of first. We have pick 7+8 in the modern super draft, Nas/pou/wilson/garcia were all taken after pick 8 in "regular" draft years

to think if a mid doesn't slide then all is lost is so pessimistic.. what if Tauru becomes a Roo mk ii? There are few players I'd take over a young nick riewoldt.

7 and 8 is super exciting, and we could still split 8

the only thing I'd be bummed about is if we trade up for 2 or whatever, not the draft to do that

I'm with you on this.

If we decide the best thing to do is use 7 & 8 ourselves (ie we don't get offered a clearly great deal for either)- then we pick best talent available.

Forget about any positional needs.

What we need for the next decade is elite A graders all over the park.

If the best available at 7 and/or 8 is talls- then get them in.

We didn't need a halfback/wing when we took Nas.

Potential for buyers remorse is far higher when you try to thread the needle and nail best available AND needs.

Especially when we have talls like wilkie and dougal who are getting on in years

You can’t say for sure that it’s not the draft to do it until years later. That being said it won’t happen because no one has the balls to make a trade like that. I would love to see it, back yourself in. If they are just taking 7 and 8 because its the ‘safe’ option in this draft then Id sack them. We don’t need to play it safe we have nothing to lose because we never win.

Travaglia Is a gun lads - don't be upset when we call his name.

Lindsay - I rate also. Reckon he becomes a Gaff type or even best case Merret vibes.

Viking would be exciting.

Mixed on Smilie, love for Draper to sneak through

Any 2 of the above 4 - can't be upset.

No chance of any others rated higher I reckon.

Enjoy the night

If we traded 7&8 for pick 2 in 2017 we could have had LDU already so its not that black and white
