Came to the realisation today that the best players from this draft could easily end up being Tauru, Trainor, Armstrong, Shanahan, the Whitlocks and Dodson.

Just rewatched their tapes, some bloody impressive footballers among them!
Exactly, it’s not just what you’re watching with guys at that age it’s what they will become.

My mate works at the RSEA park Linton street Cafe; he was grabbing a bag of coffee beans in the back room when he walked past Ross holding a meeting in the conference room. Apparently this is our new game plan for 2025 :persevere:

Ross forgot to do the 6, 6, 6 field. We are going to get so many free kicks against us next year

I've heard whispers that club legend Jonathon Marsh will be presenting our young draftees with their jumpers.

[Travaglia] was fantastic in the Champs just won contests intercepted at will and rebounded with speed.
The intercepting isn't getting enough attention. Travaglia was one of the best (if not the best) at the champs in that regard. Contested and uncontested.

I get that people want a clearance beast and Travaglia isn't that. If we do end up taking him, I think people will warm to him. More scores come from intercepts than from clearances. The best presents are the ones you didn't know you wanted.

a month or so ago our pick 8 was going to be an end of first. We have pick 7+8 in the modern super draft, Nas/pou/wilson/garcia were all taken after pick 8 in "regular" draft years

to think if a mid doesn't slide then all is lost is so pessimistic.. what if Tauru becomes a Roo mk ii? There are few players I'd take over a young nick riewoldt.

7 and 8 is super exciting, and we could still split 8

the only thing I'd be bummed about is if we trade up for 2 or whatever, not the draft to do that

my point is you have to nail the picks. We have two picks in a great spot 7/8, I want us to pick best avaliable according to our criteria and hopefully we’ll look back in 4 years and be amazed at how we landed the best two players in the draft.

I'm with you on this.

If we decide the best thing to do is use 7 & 8 ourselves (ie we don't get offered a clearly great deal for either)- then we pick best talent available.

Forget about any positional needs.

What we need for the next decade is elite A graders all over the park.

If the best available at 7 and/or 8 is talls- then get them in.

We didn't need a halfback/wing when we took Nas.

Potential for buyers remorse is far higher when you try to thread the needle and nail best available AND needs.

Especially when we have talls like wilkie and dougal who are getting on in years

You can’t say for sure that it’s not the draft to do it until years later. That being said it won’t happen because no one has the balls to make a trade like that. I would love to see it, back yourself in. If they are just taking 7 and 8 because its the ‘safe’ option in this draft then Id sack them. We don’t need to play it safe we have nothing to lose because we never win.

Travaglia Is a gun lads - don't be upset when we call his name.

Lindsay - I rate also. Reckon he becomes a Gaff type or even best case Merret vibes.

Viking would be exciting.

Mixed on Smilie, love for Draper to sneak through

Any 2 of the above 4 - can't be upset.

No chance of any others rated higher I reckon.

Enjoy the night

If we traded 7&8 for pick 2 in 2017 we could have had LDU already so its not that black and white

He is 187cm ..... even if you drafted him as a backline interceptor that ain't tall .... he is very skinny as well

Someone pointed out earlier that in reality at AFL level he likely becomes a defender who covers the smaller forwards ... he is not big enough for key position and I don't think he is tall enough for that true interceptor role

He won't become a mid because there will always be players that are better than him in that position

He would be our new Webster or at worst our new Paton

So do use a top 10 pick on that type of player?

According to combine testing results Weddle would have finished the 2km trial about 80m in front of Travaglia. Darcy Wilson would have finished 100m in front of Weddle.

That's why I said IF we choose to use 7 & 8 ourselves.

Choosing to use those picks ourselves is a separate decision.

If we get offered a clearly great deal to trade 7 and/or 8 (and/or future 1st)- then sure; lets look at threading the needle and going for best available and needs.

But unless that happens (ie someone is willing to cough up a great price for our picks)- then we simply take best available at 7 & 8, irrespective of needs.
