Considering I said two rookie upgrades, it does work. I don't think I've seen any club announce any rookie upgrades yet, so despite there not being a second list lodgment date pre-draft this year I assume there's still some kind of date for that to occur, whereas they would have to be sitting on news of a delisting that has already been processed.

Everything about Welsh screams rookie draft - no certain position at AFL level as he's too small to continue as a KPF but only has a KPF skillset, a bad combine, strong rumours about work rate/attitude issues despite being moved inside an AFL club a year early, and Adelaide isn't nearly clever enough to have schemed it all up.
Nope ….. theory caput

Welsh going in main draft, which my understanding is …. if a Club nominates a Father/Son in the main draft, they’re obligated to take him …. doesn’t mean though the club is obligated to match a bid

So pretty much locked in with Pick 4, Welsh and a rookie upgrade (unless someone grabs either of the delisted two)
Not quite...

They could do Pick 4 and 2x rookie upgrades, taking Welsh in the RD (assuming nobody else selects him in the ND or PSD). I think it's 90% likely that we'll go down the ND route, upgrading only 1 rookie, but the possibility still exists until the club confirms how many rookies they're upgrading.

I wonder if we’ve delisted Schoenberg and Burhess with the faint hope someone might pick them up and free up a list spot?

Either we don’t care or we think they are no risk, otherwise the no brainer would have been Smith.
I don't think we mind, but I also don't think anyone will bother with them.

The rabbit's theory is still alive, until the number of rookie upgrades is confirmed.

It was always based on a nonsense - the absence of delisted senior players - but the theory itself remains viable, for now at least.
Considering we’re adding 2 delisted players to the rookie draft ….. i’d say, we’ve left an option other than Welsh, to trade back into this years draft …. if that option doesn’t eventuate, yes we’ll upgrade that Irishman

No. We need to commit to the rookie upgrades before the ND.

The only way we open up another position now is if Schoenberg or Burgess sign with another club as a DFA, or if someone else is stupid enough to draft them.

We currently have 3 players on the rookie list (Keane, Borlase, Turray), so the only way we can re-draft Schoenberg & Burgess is if at least 1 of the 3 current rookies is upgraded to the senior list.

So, the only questions remaining for the AFC draft night are:
1. Does Hamish have too many tequilas on the night and trade pick 4? (If yes, then a whole can of questions opens up!)
2. Assuming not, who do we take at Pick 4?
3. Do we match any bid on Welsh? (Choosing not to makes 64 a live pick!)
4. If we don't take Welsh, do we leave a spot open or pick up a project ruck?

Another Q for Vader - are we actually obliged to pick Welsh if no-one else bids now that we have 'nominated' him as F/S, or does that nomination just give us the right to match a bid?

16 'rookies' to be redrafted across the league. just under 1000 games of experience. still remember when ramanauskas had to be given permission to be redrafted as a rookie. just get rid of it and expand the lists.

I am not 100% certain on this...

I believe that, having nominated him as a F/S selection, we are committed to take him with our last "live" selection in the ND.

Matches with my recollection that we announced Keays upgrade a few years back, after the National draft

Now the paperwork might be lodged already, but we might do the same with Keane
The upgrade takes place AFTER the ND, but we need to commit to it (i.e. lodging the paperwork) before the ND.

Smith not being one of the delisted players is further proof that our club has a problem treating its senior players consistently when compared to the younger group. List Management should have delisted Smith and crossed all their fingers and toes that another club swooped in and Greenwooded him.

Can we back out of the commitment? Otherwise, should we upgrade both Borlase and Keane, we'd be guaranteeing to lose Welsh if he doesn't slip to the rookie draft.
