KEEP
Brodie Smith - extend for a year
Lachlan Sholl - extend
Sam Berry - extend
Brayden Cook - extend
Taylor Walker - extend for a year
Chris Burgess - extend for a year
James Borlase (R) - extend for a year
Will Hamill (R) - extend for a year

GONE
Rory Sloane - retire
Ned McHenry - trade/delist
Lachlan Gollant - trade/delist
Elliot Himmelberg - free agent GWS
Hugh Bond - delist
Patrick Parnell (R) delist

This is maybe closer - gives us room for a free agent, a trade target, three draft picks (one of which is Welsh) and a rookie.

I COULD see us moving a listed player to the rookie list for one more pick?

Why are you keeping Smith?

The club is keeping smith, he’s hit that trigger has he? And we’ve shown no intention of dropping him (which ironically probably makes it more likely we’ve pay him out and cut him 😆)
I thought this was about what we (posters) were after

I'm just hoping the club is playing some 3d chess.

Pick up curtin, coverage for kdp stocks for a year while Murray gets sorted.

Trade to freo or West Coast for a pick good enough to get high in this year's draft for draper and extra pick in next year's draft to have a huge crack at getting in the hit zone for Sharp.

When it comes to drafting and trading, this club can’t even play checkers mate.

Thats a bit unfair as after the debacle of the 2018 draft where we sat on our hands and watched port with a poorer initial draft hand trade into the top 5 to get rozee and then had a pick left to get butters, we have done well since then in pick trading.

Be nice to cut a bit harder but we would end up filling spots with 4th and 5th round picks. I think you are fairly close except I think Tex will/should go as well. A new era is needed.

I think Tex's back problems are his body's way of telling him "it's time". It's getting harder & harder to see him continuing on into 2024. I strongly suspect that he will announce his retirement shortly, effective at the end of the season.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him keep playing, but I think his body is telling him that it's time to hang up the boots.

I think he’s been forced to play more games than he should’ve with the injury to TT, hopefully if he comes back physically we’ll be able to manage Tex a lot better and maybe get another season out of him

We can keep our fingers crossed... but I just don't see it happening. Don't forget that this is a recurrence of the back problem which kept him out of R1. It's obviously something he is needing to manage, and it's getting harder & harder for him to do so each week.

Can't see it either.

The players to move on should be yesterday's leaders. Delisting McHenry or Hamill won't make nearly as much difference as moving on from 2017.

Tex and Smith should retire. Sloane is already gone. Laird and Crouch are little more than accumulators and should be traded while they have at least some value so Nicks is forced to play a new midfield.

We're at a 1996 type crossroads and if we're going to improve we need to clear the decks and give responsibility to the next generation.

I don't want to take extra picks in the 3rd or 4th round just for the sake of a stab in the dark.
Prefer to keep a serviceable player in that scenario.

We have enough talent now. We just need to actually play them.

Edwards, Ryan, Curtin, Dowling etc should all be regulars next season. Meaning our depth should theoretically improve.

Adding Welsh, a free agent, trade target, 2 good draftees (top 40) onto our list would likely mean any 3rd pick player would be a long way back.

I too would like to see a clean out. I think as a club we need to move on from the group that's failed us over and over.
Not that that's Tex's fault. But they've had their turn.

I'd trade Laird for a second rounder too if I could find a buyer.

Our list management need to make the hard calls our senior coach is incapable of making. He will select the oldest possible team he can at all costs to save his own ass.

Yeah understand but point being he should be counted as someone we will be upgrading.

Mostyn
Why? This is only his 2nd year on the rookie list. Adelaide have historically left players on the rookie list for as long as possible, before upgrading them to the senior list. There's no pressing reason to upgrade him until next year, and not doing so frees up (or doesn't use up) an extra position on the senior list.
