Righ, and that’s why it looks like a blunder in hindsight, which I said at the beginning
You know he was joking, right?

There's absolutely no reason to assume that GWS are so incompetent they were just going to give away that pick in exchange for the worst available pick.

They had options, they would have said what they wanted and we still would have absolutely leapt on it

He or any other young kids need to be strong mentally because the development team is questionable
Spot on here, sadly. I don’t trust this stubborn arse club to play him to his strengths to accelerate his confidence.

Also very worried we didn’t do our due diligence (again) with a draftee, by all reports we only spoke to/interviewed him once, on draft night? Other clubs did their homework, and I fear he slid for a reason.

As if we would have developed Serong into the star he is at Fremantle.

He would have played some nothing high half forward role, dropped, sub a few times, lost all confidence and we'd be lamenting how what a short-ass draft dud he is.
Should have picked that star Mcasey that’s flourishing in Victoria!

Just to put the Haggis value to question - if we literally just drafted whoever was next on the AFL's last power rankings for each of our first round picks - would we have done worse?
I suspect we could forget all the draft watching, attending all the games, all the interviews, simply follow the power rankings and do better. Makes you wonder how bad we actually are.

Sanders made the point that our players get worse

Thilthorpe and Rachele both kicked 5 on debut. That's what Haggis gave us. What's happened from there is increasingly us

That's not to give him a pass (McHenry has never displayed any AFL first round qualities for instance), just to highlight that our problems run deeper than getting in a new recruiter.

What have we done with Pedlar?

I don't disagree.
As a club though, we have to make a decision and that's why this should have been part of the review.
Either our recruiting is rubbish (I've long defended Haggis), or we do not give our players the best chance to become their best.
If it's recruiting, then Haggis needs to go.
If it's the development, then we need to address it and have a complete change to our attitude.

We can't keep on going as we are.

Didn't we just play Curtin in the sanfl on the weekend in the back pocket for 3 qtrs ?
That's the sort of development we offer 1st round new recruits. I would like to see him play wing.
Gallagher who has never played footy is in the forward lines, where you think he would learn the game better from a backline position.
And we play Cook up forward in the pre season which I think is his best position but then play him back on the wing when the season starts

All clearly thought out :D:drunk:
We really are that stupid.

Development is a coaching responsibility

We haven't really had a senior coach that can develop young talent .. ever

Cornes - start up with lots of mature players
Shaw - clueless , but could identify talent
Blight - 2 years smash and grab
Ayres - had his favs in the middle - senior bracket
Craig - banished them to SANFL to rot and stagnate
Pyke - had his favs
Nicks - seems to be unable to develop

Irrelevant: potentially true but utterly irrelevant

The fact of the matter is that development is the sole accountability of the coaching team

Whether they do it well or they do it badly, it’s no one else’s job
