Just lazy from King, blind freddy can see we won't need much to go right for us and we'll likely end up playing finals again.

Doing any thing once we get there is a very different question.
As we creep closer and closer, I'm closing in on just predicting a flag.

This feels like vintage Cats. Write us off at your peril.

He also had Melbourne as a lock to make the 8. They're looking pretty shaky from where I'm standing.
This is still the silly season.
Once the season gets going, the galvanised Demons will be top 6 at least.
Too much over the ground talent to let these 2-3 issues wreck their actual playing season.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they come out with strong intent early to try and suggest that what’s been happening off field isn’t a distraction on field, but I think their forward line wows will have an impact against stronger teams & could well seperate them from the top teams

Think they’ll finish a couple of rungs below the top teams this seasoan

I was listening to it live this morning.
He said he has 6 locks for the 8
And 7 other teams fighting for the other 2 spots.
Kane questioned him about the cats and he said he only has 5 teams who can’t make the 8
West Coast
North
Hawthorn
Richmond
Geelong
He's just shitty about getting burned by Geelong last season, but is too lazy and unprofessional to work out why it happened.

4 of the last 6 premiership teams..
King? Let's got through that then:

Collingwood: Picked by many

Geelong: Didn't pick them.

Melbourne: Didn't pick them.

And then it's the Tiges who were in a dynasty. Again, picked by many.

It's a decent record, but let's not pretend like he's done a lot of analysis here or gone out on a massive limb and predicted the future.

There were many who predicted Hawthorn premierships in 13-15, and Geelong in 07-11. You don't get a lot of credit for predicting dominance to well...be dominant.

In 2019, & 2020, you'd be hard pressed to find Melbourne centric media personalities who DIDN'T pick Richmond to win the flag, or at the very least make the GF.

2019 was hilarious with how much they salivating at two 'big 4' clubs being amongst it.

I remember the tipsters that year. It was all Richmond & Collingwood, with a couple of brave souls who went with West Coast or Melbourne.

I love the highlights but it does show a glaring issue I have with footy coverage in general.

The Dempsey screamer was outstanding and it was a decent kick inside 50 from danger, but that's all that was shown off that passage.

The passage started at half back and just single handedly driven by Bowes. He chopped of the oppo handpass and got it moving, followed up, scooped up a loose ball, and got it to Dangerfield.

That's the stuff that makes footy work. Just repeat efforts and good decisions with ball in hand. It's like watching a movie trailer and they just show you the last scene and no storyline or build up.

The Experts' Picks in 2022 - The Mongrel Punt

"David King – he is one of the few footy personalities that will engage with supporters online and not have a Rohan Connolly-like hissy fit if he disagrees with them. I really respect that about him. That said, he is 0/8 in terms of selecting the premier since 2015. The average ladder finish for his premiership picks is… tenth. Ouch!"

Tells you everything you need to know.

Nobody's going to get them all right, but it's the way King presents his predictions and opinions like they're gospel that rubs so many the wrong way.

If he just owned that he had as much credibility as someone on here, or a bloke behind the bar, then he'd be much better off.

What really gets me with Kingy is that he's well reasoned and usually a bit data driven in his opinions. He backs them up with the why and he makes sense when explaining it.

That's why footy is so great. The most well thought arguments are usually wrong. The data is usually misleading. Some rando drink at the pub saying that he reckons the saints at in for a big year because Max King looks fit is as likely as anyone to get it right.

The problem is though he's sold his soul to champion data. That's his bible, and the source of that data you mention.

They are historically hit and miss when analysing players, categorising players, and predicting games.

He must get paid out of it, or have shares in the company somehow. I just can't see why else he'd put so much faith in this algorithm that is so consistently wrong.

Not wrong by a little bit either, wrong by a mile - hence that average ladder position of 10th for his premiership predictions.

So Rahilly next senior coach or what?

I felt like Grigg was next in line if we were to go down the succession path, and it seems like Rahilly has replaced him in that role.

It could be that we always rated him as a future HC, but needed him to do an apprenticeship somewhere else to prepare him for the gig, which is often the case.

It might not be for another 3-4 years, but he feels like next in line, particularly with his connection to the young players.

I liked when he pointed out that the number of wins equalled the number of losses. He's a "facts" man.

For those dubious about the importance of back half speed the way the game is played today, I give you our assistant coach.
