I suspect Port walked away from the deal because they have decided they want their cake and eat it too. They want a missing piece to take them to the next step. Selling Houston for 13 doesnt do that. There is no net advantage. So because they have received the go ahead to trade their future first / second (who cares) for Luko I think they secretly want Houston to to gain that advantage.

Even better, imagine they take Tauru at 2, watch the scramble for pick 5 or 6 on draft night when one of FOS or Draper slide
Melb pretty easily have the best draft hand, IMO

In prime position to get at 5 any one of FOS/Lalor/Smith/Draper if they slide, or get a great haul if they trade the pick

Plus they have pick 9

Would not shock if North did something out there like that, that we field some pretty delicious offers for our pick which may mean a fall back of x places and some tasty 2025 draft capital

They will try and let things fall over with both Pies and Blues and then give Houston the ultimatum- return home to VIC and your GF and play for Kangas (offering highest coin) or come back and play for us for the rest of your career.

I can see it now.
Nah Port will get what they want. GC will once again take a shit deal.
