It’s a sensible strategy. They can keep using draft picks for the following two years, every year, until the club folds 😁.

It’s like a person on the dole going in to cash converters to get an advance on their next dole cheque, the day after receiving and blowing their last dole cheque.

If there were no rules around trading, Port would have no draft picks at all.

It’s a fine line and when you telegraph your intentions too much it bites you on the arse as we’ve seen previously
It would have worked better if they were happier to miss out on the draft if it came to that

But they were desperate to get involved

It’s very interesting and kind of opposite to us this draft , we’ve basically traded out ( other than pick 4 )

Will be interesting to see how it pans out for both clubs , we won’t know for 3-5 years

I reckon we’ve taken the view we need experience as they’ve blamed inexperience and lack of depth for our 2023.

The other issue is our list is so tight that we’ve hamstrung ourselves which I don’t get for a rebuilding side.

Whereas Port keep giving away draft picks to attract missing pieces they’ve had to go back to the draft, plus their depth sucks.

They definitely were desperate to get into this years draft like alot of clubs , maybe too desperate in the end

What will be hilarious is if Port dont make the finals and they paid a top 10 pick for Luko and Atkins. There is every possibility for this to be the case. But forgetting the steak knife selections, pick 13 is overs for Houston. So they won that one.

Yeah but that trip to cash converters was intended to get a playstation 5 but the come out with an Atari

I love this idea that the AFL, a billion dollar industry, is making decisions because they're "woke". Like Andrew Dillon wakes up every day thinking about how he can make the world a more inclusive place.

Every single decision the AFL makes is about ensuring they can keep generating the maximum amount of money. If they suspend players, it will be because they've made a calculation that not suspending them will cost them more in terms of brand value, negative press, etc than suspending them will.

Not sure there, i have a feeling Houston will relish 17 home games at the MCG next year and might look an even better player than he did at Port. It could be a bargain for Collingwood

Not sure about overs but not as bad as people making out depending on who they draft , eg 9 on paper would have sounded good for Houston which isn’t far off

Luko needs to kick 35+ goals and look like a forward to take the pressure off the deal IMO and Richards be best 22

I think you're spot on about money, however that money does sometimes dictate what political ideologies the AFL pushes. The AFL is like the entertainment arm of the government. If the government wants certain things pushed they will be pushed because the government helps fund the AFL.

Remember how the AFL backed the Voice to parliment? It was almost simultaneously with the government funding the TAS stadium.

There are plenty of other examples of this but I don't need to highlight them here and ruffle feathers. Lets not ruin this magnificent day of trading.

Probably quite a few

Wait you mean goals right?
