I would do this
gws get: our F1, our F2, 46
adel get: peatling, gws F1, 15, 56

Wow! So GWS are just virtually giving us Peatling AND a first rounder for our F1 and our F2 which will end up being around pick 35 factoring in the super heavy Academy and F/S selections next year. On top of that we snag their F1 too.

I'll have what you're having. 🤪

If we have no F2 and go into deficit it will eat into our future 1st. If this does go down that way then rolling over on the ANB deal just looks incompetent. They should have at least held off until having talked to GWS.

Far out, so a bid in at the last pick in 2nd round eats into our F1 whereas the 1st in 3rd round eats into our F3? And he's expected to be bid on at about 40, this is hilarious. We should have approached the ANB negotiation like we didn't care whether we got him or not, which is exactly what our list management committee should have been thinking. Great if we get him at the right price, stiff $hit if we don't. He can suck it up and stay at Melbourne, retire or play for Port, him wanting to get back to Adelaide is not our problem to overcome.

Ya reckon that was more his fault or Pyke and Burton completely derailing the club

Admittedly Reid’s first 3 years where shaky but he’s become a competent list manager , hence a big club is after him

Competent? As in, we haven't been penalised for exceeding the cap limit....sure. yay!

But you are seriously happy with our current list of contracted players? The list of players that have an extra year or 2 unnecessarily? Smith, 4 years plus a trigger as a 33 year old? Brown retiring with a year left on his contract? Laird, Sloane, Milera, O'Brien 5 years.... Even 2 years to Borlase?
Our current lack of list spots? So many fringe/unproven players contracted, leaving us with little options for this draft?

He's part of our issue - make the players here happy and we can pretend we have a great culture! (also Nicks having no balls to call players out for under-performing)

The players coming in... simply SA players coming home. Did we pay unders anywhere? No. Only over fair rate, not using leverage. Resources used to bring them in leaving us short in the years after.

We won't miss him.
Please take the Coll job.

GIANTS PUSH FOR TWO PICKS

GREATER Western Sydney has been keen on Adelaide's future second-round pick and selection No.46 in this year's draft in exchange for midfielder James Peatling.

But the Crows are not expected to hand over the selections, with more negotiations likely in coming days.

Adelaide's future second-round pick is set to be the central part of the trade talks between the clubs, with the Giants starting with an eye on the Crows' second remaining pick this season as well (No.46 is Adelaide's next selection after its pick No.4).
I am assuming we are trying to keep 46 so we can trade it into next year if we don't need it to cover points for Welsh. Would make sense to try and move it into next year as we can't use it this year on a player. We might be able to snag a future 2nd if a player is still available at our pick that someone is desperate for. Even a future 3rd would be handy as we are likely going to have a few players to replace next year.

Melbourne have late picks. They would 100% have sent something back for our Welsh bid if we had played even slightly tough.

Walk away from the Peatling deal. We don’t need him, we’re paying him too much and GWS asking price is too much for a guy they only offered a 1 year deal to. This ain’t aggressive, it’s stupid.
Terrible take. Worst of the day.
Congrats.

If we can get 56 back (leaving us with 56 and 64), those two picks add up to the value of pick 49. Not sure what the highest possible match is with the 20% discount

Also need to keep in mind those later picks we have will rise in value, as bids for higher rated players will take away picks in the 30’s and 40’s

Ok thanks for giving it a crack. Personally I think it’s 0% chance Clayton and/or his Player Mgr would accept such strict and risky conditions for a player exhibiting risky behaviour. Could be doing himself out of 6-10m if he did…

So why the focus on year 6?? I am more worried about years 1-5

Seems that the consensus is that I'm dreaming, but these clauses are built in to some players (examples - can't think of any) and the contract does get re-written with a new employer.

The focus on year 6 is a way of ensuring that years 1-5 go well, it's the stick approach.

If you look at the new Mac Andrew contract, playing 60 games in 5 years to trigger his next 4 years, and coaching contracts now have clauses that allow for early sacking without 100% payout. If it's good enough for a clean cookie like Nicks, it's good enough for Clayton.

Well basically most of our best players have been traded in

This includes 2 that were discarded by another club and are both in the leadership group

He’s by far the most competent person in list management and recruiting at the club given his role is mainly to target and acquire mature age players that can help the squad , of course he’s backed up by one or 2 guys from recruiting that look at mature age players too

Meanwhile Hamish and his team have struggled to draft players that come up to same standards , some have but alot have struggled and delisted

The question would be is it drafting or development or both as trading has gone well after Reid’s initial issues with Gibbs etc in first couple years

Reid is competent enough to be offered a job at a big melb club , Hamish isn’t getting any job offers . Pretty sure this will be his last job in the afl

How?

They haven't made a draft selection since 2021.

They traded their 2022, 2023, 2024 picks and now the AFL gives them the green light to trade 2025.

Then at some point the AFL will randomly knock back a club from trading because "You haven't made 2 first round selections in 4 years".

It's laughable at this point how the AFL flip flops constantly on the rules, no doubt with GC being an AFL owned and operated club it's in their best interests to allow Port to trade their first for Luko, even if it goes against the rules, so they will allow it.

You can bet London to a brick that that if we were in Port's position and wanting to give Freo or WCE a 1st rounder in a trade that the AFL would be all over it and be telling us that we're breaking the trading rules would refuse to rubber stamp the trade.

Because they traded the picks for Jason Horne-Francis. The AFL have consistently said the rule won't apply if you trade the picks for a young player

I agree with you. I posted the day Peatling announced he chose Adelaide that we should take it to the PSD and it was disliked by many on here.

Sorry, but if GWS don't like what we're offering, and we're being very generous with a F2 pick, then take it or leave it. They have no bargaining power. We get him for free in the PSD and keep our F2. GWS are pissed that they've lost half a dozen players this off season and want to play hardball. Suits us to a tee.
