What? Nank had a good year and are you forgetting Nank playing well against Port only to be made sub for a returning Smith whose contribution was 2 kick ins against Port when he came on?

Nankervis had a good year, but faded out pretty badly towards the end.

It's still probably a good thing that the club backed him in, though if they had rested him they could have debuted Ryan I guess.

It was mediocre compared to what you'd expect out of a half back flanker, though with promise of Nank developing into a very solid two-way defender.

In the end of the day, we only got 17 disposals/221 meters gained/3 score involvements/4.3 intercepts per game at 76% KE from a half back flanker which is about league average. Mediocre is also what we got out of Smith, seeing we got 17.6 disp/367 meters gained/2.9 score involvements/4.5 intercepts per game at 68% KE.

The fact we retained Nankervis out of those two once he was putting up that line says if a 26 gamer had Smiths line, he would have been treated with the same amount of rope.

Considering Nankervis survived for 19 games straight in what was a heavily under-performing sector and was performing at a similar click to Smith, I think it's pretty safe to say yes, he would have been given as much rope with our current list.
Nankervis never had to get up in front of teammates to apologize for how bad he was playing. To say they were performing at the same level is pretty surface level, Smith was more often than not (especially in that first month) our worst player who was causing multiple goals a game to be kicked against us.

Explain to me why Nank was made sub after a good game against Port for 2 kick in Smith? A game where under the heat of the showdown Nank had 16 touches at 94% disposal efficiency.

If anything id say it can be argued that Nicks cracked under the strain of this year and some of the culture he had built evaporated. I think how the club responds to this season over summer and into next season will be telling as to how well Nicks culture is trending.

How did the culture evaporate ?

They still seem to be a very connected group, and despite people’s criticism of Nicks - he has not lost the players, it’s actually the very opposite

Publicly burn a young player will erode culture.

Not taking any ownership for your own failings and putting it on the players.

So that’s Carlton and Collingwood both not offering Port what they want, along with Melbourne pulling out.

Couldn’t be Port overrating their player could it?

Port thought they were getting perryman to replace him as an FA and almost encouraged houston to go thinking they werr getting north F1. Cripps finally outsmarted himself I suspect rather than them overrating houston. also need to remember hes not available first three weeks next week.

Nank is in a 4-man emergency squad next year barring injuries

Nankervis was moved back part way though the year. Was looking more damaging further up the ground in my opinion, and that’s where he should be played - either wing or even half forward and squirts on the ball.
With 3 players in best 22 coming in, they should replace Murphy (ANB), Smith (IC) and a mid rotation player for Peatling. Nankervis is definitely in best 22 imo.

I remember the time I was roasted by a teacher in front of the whole class. I remember the words the teacher said, where I was sitting, the face on the other kids s******ing as I was getting in trouble, and I was only about 9 years old, so 31 years ago. It stuck with me.

I don't remember specifics about any of the times a teacher pulled me aside and gave me a low voiced, calm talking to in the corridor, or the 1 on 1 open discussions about acting out in class and my feelings around that acting out. Nothing.

Perhaps this will be the tough love Rachele needs...

These days we are a soft as marshmallow society trying to educate and sculpt kids with little to no consequence for wrong doings. Crouching down to a kids level to appear as an equal while saying "now jeremy, you know you shouldn't elbow your brother in the face, that's a B choice" is a load of back and forth motion of the hand on the penis. So now we have 12 year olds stealing cars, and like I watched last night, a young female adult thinking it is OK to threaten to stab 3 police officers on North Terrace while the police did nothing about it. In some countries that would earn you a baton smack across the face.

I'm ok with Nicks giving Rachele a little old school treatment, if Rash can dish it out publicly then I'm sure he can take it publicly as well.
