In what universe is someone with half a good season ahead of a top 10 player at a premiership/consistent finals club for the last 4 years?
Peatling just turned 24 and on a decent upward trajectory (Jordan Dawson), ANB 29 before the season starts next year?

I would have prioritised Lalor if I were west coast. Imagine him and Harley Reid.

Strange trade to give up that much for Liam Baker!

Matthew Wright was only appointed less tha a fortnight ago...LOL

I feel there are slightly different circumstances with ANB wanting to get home (albeit in contract) so the good faith was to just get it done and take any pressure of player, partner and families.

Peatling wanting the bugger contract and GWS trying to hold him to somewhat of his worth. Some may argue he is worth more than the eventual trade some would argue less.
Fair enough, but if you said to me we could only have 1 of them, I know which one I would prefer.

I suspect Port walked away from the deal because they have decided they want their cake and eat it too. They want a missing piece to take them to the next step. Selling Houston for 13 doesnt do that. There is no net advantage. So because they have received the go ahead to trade their future first / second (who cares) for Luko I think they secretly want Houston to to gain that advantage.

I'm not sure whether I'm in the minority, but the club I reckon is wanting cake and eating it too is Suns.

Peatling is 24
Sorry about that, misread. He’s still got basically his whole career ahead of him though, he plays midfield, which I’m sure everyone would agree is more pressing for us than half forward, and he had 6 other clubs chasing him.

It’s more the ANB thing that gets me, to roll over without even talking to GWS first, for a soon to be 29yo half forward, just boggles my mind.

I think it goes a bit deeper than that, I have the feel list management was thinking it will allow Rankine more midfield minutes and to lesser extent Rachele, leaving ANB to do the pressure/grunt work and gut running?

ANB is worth a 3rd round pick and Peatling is worth a 2nd

Would be interesting if we paid the alternate for each player. I guess an okay outcome overall but we'd be winning one trade and losing another

ANB’s worth more than a 3rd. I’d have had him as a pick between 30-35 and Peatling as worth a bit more

Melb pretty easily have the best draft hand, IMO

In prime position to get at 5 any one of FOS/Lalor/Smith/Draper if they slide, or get a great haul if they trade the pick

Plus they have pick 9
I think there is almost zero chance that Draper slides to the Dees at 5.

If he doesnt go earlier, we will 100% take him at 4.

Agree though, they should get a key mid at 5, regardless.

So Carlton have effectively given up Pick 12, a 2025/1, a 2025/2 and Owies for Pick 3? In an even draft?
I think this it the forgotten aspect of the trade, the Blues have given up their F1.

Given its Carlton too, they are very capable of f**king up their season and finishing outside the 8.

That’s probably a fair assumption. Particularly if he’s 1 or 2 on our board

Only way I can see him sliding is if we have Draper ranked 4th, and the guy we have 1st or 2nd is still there, too (though I reckon Draper’s in our top 2 or 3 minimum)
