I am calling it now. There is no way Port ever win a premiership while they have this missing pieces trading strategy. Its demolishing their depth. Im honestly looking forward to next year because i predict Port will almost certainly seek permission to use every future 1st and 2nd from the new found rules to bring in more players.
Port have basically ignored the draft for the last few years. They will have a serious lack of any young talent coming through now. We have seen how much that has hurt us with us botching multiple drafts and losing young players all at once. Now we have a lack of players around the 25-30 age bracket. Port will have the same problem very soon.

Don’t think they’re looking at Richards for depth

They have McEntee and Evans that sometimes look Murphy look capable , they’ll have high hopes for Richards , he’s got some class
i saw him twice live this year. once he was ok the other not. put it this way, i would not want him. will look real good in the sanfl just like murphy

if ports rioli got fit he could be anything that was a smart pickup

I think Luko will turn out better than people here would like if port use him right. He has a lot of talent and it's not as if we haven't witnessed any of it yet.
He'll be an upgrade on Marshall.

It's Dixon they need to replace though. Ratugolea is not a key forward's arseh*le.

They need Richards to make it , Luko to kick 35 + next year and to nail 2 of the 3 draft picks this year

If they could get anything near the butters level of pick at 13 that would help

Need alot to go right to win the trade but have Obvs decided they weren’t contending with the same list
Obviously they drafted well in 18/19, remains to be seen re: Sinn though, not looking superb right now. Not many later picks nailed

First time in a while they’ve had a decent amount of top-half picks (might get more if they trade 13 to Syd for 19/22), need to make them count

When you separate it, the Houston side of the deal works out to be 13, 29 and Richards for Houston. Is that really that bad? I don’t think Port have been badly ripped off there.

The Gold Coast side of the deal is the problem for them. They shouldn’t be giving up a Future 1 for Luko and Rat. Should be a Future 2 IMO for politely taking on the Atkins’ salary dump.

It’s not re: Houston, but it’s not what the Port supporters were promised

richards is just more depth IMO

luko is the only one who is best 22 for them and he would want to pull his finger out. still think he stupid not picking adelaide where he would have been able to get the fourth defender

Ports prelim I think conned some players into thinking they were a quality team. Richards is merely an example of a player running to a club he thought is on the verge of a premiership. Collingwood are closer to winning 4 premierships than Port are at winning one. So you have to question the advice he got.

Luko chose playing with a friend. He deserves whatever disappointment comes his way. Was not a professional decision that met his needs.

Richards was competing with Shultz and Bobby Hill

Ports small forwards are really poor outside Rioli , I think he’s chosen a weaker team for more opportunities

I know people have said it before, but how could Rioli be worth 6 and Houston effectively 13.
Houston is twice the player Rioli is. No wonder the pear faithful are fuming .
Personally feel 13 is about right for an uncontracted Houston . (So they got slight under cos he’s contracted)
Rioli is a second round pick .

Yep absolute steal by tigers

Daylight robbery

If it was 9 and not 13 it would prob look ok for port on paper at least

Port get away with this strategy by the media because of the success Geelong and Hawthorn had with it. The difference is the Hawks and Geelong got star players every trade. Port have got mediocre city players with a couple of star players mixed in.

Stats dont favour this strategy though. Hawthorn last won their premierships in 2015. Geelong have started to opt away from this strategy and started hitting the draft and its showing with their results. They are putting some good results together. Port seem hell bent on sticking with it and its just not working.

They’ve just traded heavily into this draft though ?
