For whatever it's worth, I interpret dissatisfaction with the professionalism of senior players to mean both on-field performances and also stuff like Laird's comments about the Rachele thing. If so, then I think it being called out is good.

I started listening about half way through him saying that so I missed the context, I had wrongly assumed they were saying we were too serious, that's why someone like Rachele was left high and dry.

I was surprised to hear we needed to lift standards, despite our current position I had hoped we were at least putting our best foot forward. Hearing that the younger players want to drive this further is an indictment on Nicks if you ask me.

I had initially thought, after not hearing the context of why Morris was talking about the Crows that I had missed some big breaking news, alas, no this isnt the case.

We’re very, very serious when it comes to punishing young players.

I listened to the segment and personally thought the most interesting/telling part was Morris saying (a paraphrase, not a quote) that "some staff asked for more professionalism from senior leading players."

We’ve known for a while that our senior players are our problem.

What if it was someone like Nathan Buckley? or Jimmy Bartel that got the gig...would you still feel the same way?
Someone with some independence and gravitas and experience and good judgement and will to fix things would be fine, if they had the authority and the backing to get things done.

We’ll probably squib it and just promote Burns to the role.

Neil Craig and Steven Trigg would bring a wealth of AFL experience. Wonder if it’s time for Noble to return to the game?

Well, the club calls him that...

and other clubs have them too.

I don't think it has to be in the constitution, just however the board decides to name / allocate roles.

Obviously they’re free to call anyone whatever they want, but there is no director role designated to football. The chair of the audit committee could be called the audit director by the club, but the official role is just director.

It’s also possibly about blowing off training to pick up the kids or attend events. Something Tex mentioned as being a great attribute of Nixxy. Likely a few younger players think that shows a lack of dedication to the task.

I think being able to go pick up your kids is great and that choosing to get upset about something like that, which has ~zero impact on results but makes people feel better at work, is a misdirection of emotional energy.

Plus it was only ever mentioned about meetings, not training sessions, IIRC.

Edwards went on some podcast or YouTube interview and was pretty scathing about the lack of communication and direction from the club.

Whether that’s fair (likely) or he’s applying mayo anyone would be shitty if it was their kid.
yeah, even if edwards is difficult, which he probably is as he was definitely in the wrong with the mcleod dispute, it's up to the club to make it right and smooth things over, instead the club has a long history of leaving on bad terms with a players. having the mutineer and jenny types say it's 100% not the clubs fault is just a laugh 😃

What specific role is this "Director of Football" that's being floated around?
It's a made up role to brush the failures of the coaching group for this year. Since the position is empty we can say that's what was missing. But in fact we could all see at the start of the season the tactic they were employing of kicking to the boundary to a contest was what was losing games.

Tldr; it's something they made up so they could dodge the blame from Nicks

The laughs on you bud, you're hilarious.🤣😂

Again, a LONG history is a bit of a stretch.

Pure nonsense.

On the one hand, people on here pot the club for being too sentimental when it comes to list management.

And yet, when confronted with an example of the club being put in a delicate position by former players and making the tough yet correct choice, they default to... potting the club.

Roo is the Football Director, that's his role on the Board. A Director of Football is an employee.
If the club put Roo into this paid role, with his board time coming to an end, we may as well close the club.

Maybe Tyson could have accepted being dropped in the same spirit Matt Crouch did...

Footnote Tyson did get a farewell game which he originally declined.

Crows' stalwart Tyson Edwards quits AFL

Adelaide stalwart Tyson Edwards has stunned his AFL club by retiring immediately after being dropped for this weekend's game.
An upset Edwards ended his decorated 320-game career just two days after Crows captain Simon Goodwin announced he would retire at season's end.
The 33-year-old Edwards rejected an appeal by the Crows to keep playing after he was told he was dropped for Adelaide's encounter with St Kilda on Saturday night.
Adelaide's football operations manager Phil Harper said Edwards' decision to quit went against the club's wishes.
"What we ideally want is whether he's in or out, for him to keep playing on," Harper told Adelaide radio station 5AA.

"I suppose because he's on the borderline, he feels `well, where do I really sit?' ... and he decided that maybe it's best to finish up."
The 320-game veteran also declined a tentative offer to have a farewell game at his home ground, AAMI Stadium, in a couple of weeks.
"The coach (Neil Craig) said yes, but I can't 100 per cent guarantee it," Harper said.
"It was said by the coach that he would try to the very best of his ability to provide him one against Fremantle in a couple of weeks time.
"In the end, Tyson decided against that.

"It's not the way I envisaged Tyson going out.
"And I'm sure it's not the way he envisaged going out, being right on the borderline, because you never think such a champ would be on the borderline."
Edwards, a member of Adelaide's premiership sides in 1997 and 1998, felt he was taking the position of a younger player, Harper said.
"We wanted a farewell game, that was our second option - our first option was to keep playing," he said.
"Now he is saying he feels like he's standing in people's way, if he's only on the borderline then he's standing in some young guy's way.

"Whether that is right or wrong, who knows.
"What I'd like to focus on is what a great player he has been. Yeah, this last day or two isn't the greatest, but gee, for 16 years it has been a fantastic ride for him and us."
The prolific onballer was runner-up in the Crows' club champion award three times, and finished third in 2004.
Edwards was not immediately available for comment and will hold a media conference on Friday.

Hayden Skipworth favourite for the WCE gig

Never would have picked it when he was playing. Maybe Ned McHenry will be a senior coach one day?

yes it is a delicate situation and requires a delicate approach and solution which a good club comes up!

What's this about former Crow Hayden Skipworth being the front runner for the Eagles head coaching role

We did neither/both

If we were ruthless, they weren't ever on our list.

Instead we were sentimental with giving them a rookie spot, they got treated like the inevitable delistee they were while they were here, and we ruthlessly cut them pretty much straight away.

Managed to get the worst of both worlds.
