Why would he need to tell the Giants, it has no bearing on them given they arent trading.
I agree with that notion but pretty much in the opposite direction. He’ll get to his desired club no matter what, if he had a club in mind why not just nominate? Battle nominated Hawthorn IIRC?

We’ve been in his ear all year and Port haven’t. If he’s still undecided, that’s not promising.

He's played AFL for 8 years, GWS have tried him all over the park and settled on him as a back pocket as his best position. I don't think where he played as a junior is relevant any more, like it isn't for Chayce Jones

He's not a bad player, he's just average. But a 7 year contract, really?
You think he'll play back pocket at his next club?

I don't and if it's Port no way he plays back pocket.

He did, while they were still playing and after a very prolonged discussion.

There is a chance he hasnt decided.

I think another club would think he's not a back pocket, maybe will try him in a few positions again, but ultimately will come to a similar conclusion that he's best in defense.

He's definitely not playing midfield at Port Adelaide

Someone help me cope here: what reason would Cumming have to not nominate a club at this point unless that club were still in finals.
As an UFA he doesn't need to specifically nominate a club, as there won't be any trade.

For what its worth, ANB also didn't formally nominate a club straight away.

I'm not sure what Kennedy would offer us that Crouch doesn't.

He's surprisingly capable as a forward, strong overhead, and would be a big upgrade on Murphy. But ultimately still a role player

Current Excitement Levels

Pick 4: 10

...daylight...

Lukosius: 4
ANB:2
Cumming: 2
I'd give Cumming a 7 and ANB a 6, both definitely improve us.

Luko I'm not sure about, if we get him for F2, maybe a 6 or 7, for a F1 I'd rate it about 3

A disappointing season like this year is never because of just one thing, but a cumulative list that causes a snowball effect.
This year the main issues were in no particular order.

  • selection and positional mistakes (particularly with our outside mids and transition players).
  • a very tough draw
  • injuries, particularly to our spine with Murray and Tillthorpe.
  • the pain caused by horrific top 20 drafting over the last 10 years meaning no superstar mids to carry the team.

Personally I am very intrigued by the coaching help being flagged for the club as I have long felt that Nicks is really good at a lot of the aspects of being a head coach, but miles off the mark in a few vital areas like selection and strategy. If we have identified this and are looking to split the role to some extent then I think it could work well if we get the right person.

If we then ace this trade period and bring in Cumming, a gun mid or 2 and/or Lukoscius then I honestly think the future can be very bright. However we simply have to nail this draft and get at least 1 A grade midfielder.
Got to add a terrible gameplan that basically eliminated our ability to win games to that list

If you had to make an ordered list of midfielders we should prioritise getting midfield minutes into, where does Kennedy currently sit?

1. Dawson
2. Izak
3. Soligo
4. Crouch
5. Pick 4
6. Berry
7. Taylor
8. Pedlar
9. Dowling
10. Edwards
11. Curtin
12. Laird
13. Schoenberg

He definitely doesn’t need to, but if he’s decided, what’s not nominating achieve unless that club is still in finals and prefers no nomination for whatever reason.

ANB may have taken a bit to nominate a club because he needed assurance a trade was possible. That’s not a factor here, Cumming is 100% getting to the club he wants.

In all honesty he'd be above Crouch

I guess you need to know the definition of the roles? Kelly’s role as Head of Football clearly isn’t one of overseeing the coach or game day strategy, rather making sure the football department runs smoothly. I think a senior Director of Football would be the Neil Balme type position who is there to guide and assist the coaching panel.
hmmm splitting hairs

adam kelly role is superfluous

I'd have Berry, Pedlar and Crouch well down that list.

1. Rankine

Cumming had a very average game over the weekend but I have just genuinely liked watching him play footy over the years so have watched him closely. I would normally consider him a pretty poised footballer and last week was very unlike him.

Definitely agree he isn’t as critical as the above players you mentioned but I do believe he will been an asset and I think he’s what our backline is lacking - personally! I could also be wrong, I’m no coach 😂
Agree, will provide the rebound off half back we desperately need
Smith is cooked, Laird can't hit targets, Milera is injured, most of our other defenders don't have a huge offensive side to their games, Cumming does. The best teams have 2 or more of this type, we have 0
