Last night was the first time in a while I've seen a bit of the bombers.

Was that a typical 2024 game from gresh?

If so- we made out like bandits getting a first rounder for him.

He looked utterly cooked- no zip, power or agility like he used to have.

It's a shame for him personally if his body is cactus- he's shown immense talent.

But great call by us if that's what he plays like now?!
What were his brows like?

I put this in the list management thread but maybe this one is more active.

I know this will be a very unpopular opinion and I understand why. But what would people think about trading Rowan Marshall if we were to get 2 top 10 picks for him? As much as I have love him and would hate to see him play for another team, I think the ruck position can be filled by a younger ruck not getting a game on another list e.g. Nick Bryan and Ned Moyle or someone along those lines. The last few premiers have had Darcy Cameron (got for nothing), Rhys Stanley (not overly good), Max Gawn (an exception to my point), Toby Nankervis (got for nothing) and Jordan Roughead (pick 33, nothing amazing). My point is by getting 2 top 10 picks for him, we could finally combine all 3 top 10 picks to draft some A-grade talent as our midfield is what is killing us the most. Getting his big contract off our books, in combination with our already huge war chest, means we can pay a Nick Bryan or Moyle slightly more than other clubs whilst still having a massive amount to spend on someone like LDU next year. Again, I love Row and he's one of the only ones that tries every single week, but he's turning 29 this year and realistically won't be apart of a saints premiership and he may as well try and enjoy some success. Pls don't rip me apart :(

(Edit: I only said 2 top 10 picks as I saw a poll where the majority of fans said they wouldn't accept that trade so wanted to see what some actual fans thought. I think he's worth more pick 7-10 and a mid-late teens pick)
You would get pick 15 odd for him. Doubt clubs would offer a top ten pick. That’s crazy you think he would net two top ten picks. That would be a horrendous deal for any club that does that.

Then who rucks for the Saints? Is Campbell at 32 or Heath going to be the number one ruck? Good luck with that.

Just keep Ro.

We need to start taking some calculated risks, there are always kids who are desperate to get to their club of choice and we need to take advantage of that. Draft tampering is very hard to prove, you put a few kids to sleep for the year, play cricket, take up music whatever. You make use of the brown paper bag and guarantee x years then load up on early thirds and away you go.

Stop playing by the afl’s established system, screw overpaying in cash and drafts picks for any decent players. Geelong are a good example of being ahead of the pack, getting creative and managing to get the afl to bend rules for them. If it works for them or has worked then what are we doing sitting on our hands. Only dumb luck with 1 first round pick a year will improve our position if we keep doing the same things.

Also we have been absolutely clueless when it comes to the kids of ex players and relatives of players, how the hell is sods boy playing for the bulldogs. When you’ve struggled like we have you need to be all over any opportunity to bring in talent and you can’t be a stickler for the rules that are often designed to keep you down.

The piece that describes the plight of st Kilda and north is only accurate in describing the situation as it currently exists. It carefully makes no mention of how a myriad of afl decisions from scheduling to academy’s and quite a bit in between have created this situation. Who sits back and meekly plays by the rules when they’re designed for you to assume the position and smile ?.

I think you can do ist outside of cheating. Picking up semi developed talent from clubs like GC is good business. I said we should chase Flanders and when he signed said Sharp. Would have been a free best 22 player who has scope to be a very good player. They have a heaps academy players to fit in so should be exploitable as players look for opportunity.

Still not convinced that St Kilda used that pick well. It’s a question mark… maybe we know it in 5 years.

You only do the deal if you have a committed new ruckman lined up, like the young lad from GCS.

We know that'll mean going backwards in the short term of our midfield, which is already trash.

The dice are loaded, even the terms used in that article are from the US and meaningless here “big market teams”. What he really means is that teams in the same market have been gifted marquee games at the premier venue. Phil Davis is kidding he went from his home state and football obsessed Adelaide to gws and obscurity for the money.

I’m sick of playing nice, your strategy is fair enough but doesn’t go far enough. If I’m not winning I’m coming back with a brick and if that doesn’t work I’m coming back with a gun.

Didn't watch last night but he's been good in the games that I've seen. He's still hit and miss but he breaks lines and adds a lot of pace and movement inside 50. His defensive game is miles ahead of what he was with us.

I'm back at keep him too. We really have to start moving forward soon. We are talking of playing finals again in 4 or 5 years if we start selling off the good talent we have and chase picks. You don't get better quickly bottoming out.

Pointless unless it’s a stupid offer. We need him, we don’t need the cash, we have no ready made replacement. There are gettable ruckman around but we’d definitely be going backwards and then I hear he’s a very popular guy within the team as well.

I’m pretty sure that at some point we may have seen Marshall as something other than a pure ruck or expendable. We made a play for Draper and then Xerri both as it turns out would have been good gets. Unfortunately the only players we can afford to move aren’t really worth much either through age or ability. If you gut a list like north then you’ll probably wind up in the same situation with the begging bowl out going nowhere.

We can't afford to trade or lose to many of our core like last time. Goddard, dal Santo and McEvoy, all left the club within a 12 month period.

I believe we can afford to offload one of Sincs, Steele, ro, battle or Wilkie.

Only if we get a top 10 pick and if our recruitment team thinks we'll have a good chance of picking up a gun and not a coffield.

Obviously don't do it if we don't rate the draft but if we do..... We need to take an educated risk to bring in some A grade talent to actually have a tilt.

Imo Sinclair is the player I'd choose, 30 next year. Won't be a midfielder, probably won't be playing in 5 years and we could get a top 10 pick for him.

We can cover him with Nas and Wilson.

Flanders was a good call. I like the look of binns this year but what we really need is harder to find. Maybe a good sniff around freo who have brayshaw and serong, ok we’re not getting them but who’s behind them not getting played ?.

Can’t unload Sinclair, battle is the obvious choice. He’s a restricted free agent and is easily replaced imo.

That’s why I suggested SoS to do his 3 for 1 deals with GWS and GC, can fast track the rebuild a little if we are smart about it.

Battle is much younger than all of sincs, wilkie, marshall, steele.

Battle will be the new wilkie (still in his prime) in 3-4 years when wilkie is probably close to retirement.

We need to keep battle unless we get an amazing return for him like in a deal for brayshaw or something

Just a good player and that trade is nether happening. It may be that his worth this year is maxed out so this is it, if we keep him he’s ours for good.

Battles just coming into his prime, young enough to be around for the next tilt too.

I like battle he’s no scrub but he’s not a star and nether will be imo. If and it’s a big if he gets the right offer that could be a very good draft pick. Sinclair is a saints man, two time b&f, great clubman and more importantly contracted and too old to command a premium pick.

If Will Brodie wants to play regular footy it's a no brainer. He's pretty much a 25 year old Brad Crouch replacement. Probably has his best footy ahead of him but is a real one position inside mid and behind Serong and Brayshaw.

Hopefully we get Jagga Smith or a good kid in this draft that can develop into a gun game breaker and then keep looking around at depth mids in other teams. Even someone like Ward or Hobbs who can't get a starting inside mid spot.

Suns have a guy called Darcy MacPherson who plays HBF because he can't get a run in the midfield. He came off their rookie list and is already 26 but can't break into their side. When he does he's a sub usually. He'd be almost a delisted player next season and he'd probably be a walk up start or at least solid depth at St Kilda.

Sinclair is one of our few elite players you lose more than you gain selling those guys. Especially considering the chances of picking up anyone close to as good would be remote at best.

Gres is no better or worse than at us. He is doing what Gres does.
We weren't going anywhere with Gres, but Essendon may. I am not sold on Essendon but they are currently top 4.
We eventually got Collard and he is just starting his career so we don't know yet.
The trade can be a win win. I was a Gres fan and wish him well.
