Some of the melts here are ridiculous.

We have a lead of 190.

We have dominated the test.

Are the stupid short ball to the tail tactics annoying - yes.

Should we have bowled them out and been able to enforce the follow on - yes as well.

Was Smiths drop costly - yes.

Would we have won if not for the drop? Who knows

Fact is we have lost a good 5-6 sessions in the match to rain

Was always pushing it uphill to get a win in that context

There's good reason for it. 190 run doesn't help us now. Actually, is utterly useless to us. They should have been following on.

Smith catch gets Rahul out 51 runs and 90 minutes earlier. That's a certain follow on, and not only that, if the catch was taken, we attack the next batsman with a harder ball. Plus, once we got them out the bowlers wouldn't have been near as knackered when we bowled at them a second time. We can all work all that out. It's simple. You must be able to work that out.

Nup. Australia's tactics should be to get the last wicket, declare straight away, then send India back in. Time is of the essence. All out attack with what time is remaining. Australia batting again would be pointless.

Can’t see them doing that as it could easily gift the game to India as they’d only be chasing 200. Means they’d have to win the last 2 tests.

I have been critical of the short ball in the past... Today what would you have them do... The ball is doing sweet **** all. Pitch it up and they would have been just as untroubled.

Did you miss how Siraj was caught behind against Starc from a ball that didn't do much except slant across him? Tail enders like Bumrah will nick/miss balls that do nothing. Bumrah has been out caught at first slip and caught behind in this series. That's a good indicator for how to get him out. Bowl a few proper bouncers by all means to put them on the back foot, but these strange tactics we insist on using against the tail have been proven time and time again to backfire.

Can people not understand that Marsh is not picked as an all-rounder. Just because he used to be an all-rounder that doesn’t automatically mean he has to bowl now.

I see no one calling for Khawaja to bowl? He has contributed less with the bat over recent periods. Don’t have the most recent figures, but I believe it was either pre-series or post first test that Marsh had the highest average of all our top 6 since the WTC final. He doesn’t get dropped if he can’t bowl, in the same way the rest of the top five get dropped if they can’t bowl. He would get dropped on his batting. And while subpar in recent matches, his recent record probably has him over Khawaja, McSweeney and probably Labuschagne. Ahead of Smith before the ton too.

So if you really need or want an all-rounder, you drop your worst batter, not just a bloke who is now a batter who can chuck down the odd over, because you have mentally compartmentalised that he is an all-rounder and you can’t adapt and accept him being a batter now.

With a target of below 200? No way.

Marsh SHOULD NOT be in the Test team at all.

Shit effort today.
That Smith drop catch, costly.
Selecting Hazelwood, surely if he wasn’t 100% then Boland plays. If we’re down to 2 quick’s why tf is Marsh only bowling 2 overs?

Again, no answers when the batting team gets on top, happens too often.

Starc and Cummins cooked after today? Please, they’re professional athletes coming of a weeks rest. Only bowled 30 odd over between them today. Lyon pretty useless as well.

The second Hazlewood couldn't bowl his overs the test was a draw. We would've needed Starc and Cummins to bowl minimum 50 overs each across two days for 15 wickets. We've seen what happens at the end of series when Starc and Cummins are cooked. Lets just bat out the test and win at the G.

Why not? When Green comes back and a middle-order squeeze is on maybe. Otherwise averages [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]+ since WTC final*

*may have slightly dipped below now, haven’t got the figs in front of me due to couple recent low scores.

You just know we’ll set them about 300, and Kohli will make 150 and get them the win.
F*****t selectors picking Hazelwood and Marsh who can’t bowl and Smith dropping a bloody sitter

it would be absolute stupidity to set them 300 odd when pant, jaiswal, and even kohli ,sharma , jadeja, nitish are capable of quick runs and end up 2-1 down and hand india much needed WTC points and make things harder to qualify for that.

india's only way to win is for australia to declare - so lets not give them a sniff.

if india are good enough to skittle us in a session and chase it down - then kudos to them.

i was all good for going hell bent for the win, until india avoided the follow on.

looks like late showers in any case.

Bit contradictory - if Starc and Cummins haven’t bowled that much, the Marsh and Hazlewood not bowling shouldn’t matter much.

So despite all of that, we are still in a very dominate position and it's "shit effort today" lol.

He’s in as a batter. I don’t necessarily agree with it, but that’s why he is there.

For Sri Lanka, I wouldn’t take him or Usman.
The Dave Warner farewell tour is looking like an even worse idea the longer this summer goes on.
