fwiw, Shield averages for this year (250 runs+, plus a few notable others)

McSweeney deserves to be in the test side. Just not as an opener. Sadly, not a lot of openers in that top group - Konstas and Harris the leading contenders. Left field option - Tim Ward - having an excellent season; prime age at 26; has been batting at 3, but has spent a lot of time previously at top of the order.

So the great one has only 2 centuries and they were in the one game. Expected 4-5 centuries from all the hype.

Abbott, Konstas and Richardson into the squad for final 2 games

Australia squad: Pat Cummins (c), Travis Head (vc), Steve Smith (vc), Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Jhye Richardson, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster

George Bailey can get ****ed honestly the treatment of McSweeney has been horrific but no you can't drop Marsh or Khawaja or Labuschagne?

Head is injured yet will play because he's still terrified he'll lose his spot even though it's the most safe other than Cummins.

Lyon has barely Bowled at all, would have been a great opportunity for Murphy to get a series at home against great players of spin and likely our next main spiner.

The boys club sucks and there has been no plan for the future whatsoever, meanwhile the entire top order is horrifically out of form but yeah drop the guy who's only played 3 Tests facing the number 1 bowler in test Cricket and is averaging more than his more senior opening partner, who is also a walking Wicket against the number 1 bowler.

Marnus cant score either

Go with a new combo and move to Mcsweent down the order. Retire Khawaja
Patterson
Konstas
Smith
Head
mcSweeny
Webster
I would rather risk Marnus than burn Konstas though. We manage young batsmen terribly and have so for many years.

I would not mind:

Renshaw/Harris/Marnus
Usman
Patterson
Smith
Head
McSweeney

Usman is obviously drinking in last chance saloon.

Renshaw is having a decent season and should be in the frame. I don't like Harris at all but would consider him for the same reason I would consider Marnus to open.

What’s an escape goat? Did someone forget to shut a gate?
Someone on BF made a fool of themselves on it previously. I can't remember which poster it was but it was a real mister meaner

I’ll hold my ammunition until I see it officially confirmed

But you are probably right
Unleash now - it’s official, but in reality it was already official when they leaked it.

You will no doubt be happy with Richardson being added, which i am not against at all.

But for someone like O’Neill, the message is pretty clear, unless you are fast don’t bother

Treatment of McSweeney - horrific.

Nope, got picked for his Test Debut - didn't perform and someone else looks better. Hardly horrific.
I'd say dropping the inexperienced guy for another inexperienced guy is the lesser of two evils compared to having 2 inexperienced guys opening against the #1 Fast Bowler in World Cricket

Lyon barely bowled cos he basically wasn't needed. Do you think, honestly, that Murphy would've bowled more if picked over Lyon?
Murphy WILL get picked for SL and will very likely play at least one Test there.

Surely they bring Webster into the 11 and leave out Marsh.

Any chance Marsh gets dropped? He doesnt bowl anymore by the looks of it...and isnt reliable enough to bat at No 6. Surely it is time to bring in a proper all rounder?

THIS. As I've said before....Marsh offers very little in Test cricket. Makes a good score every now and then which places him in the "do not discard" bag for 4 to 6 months. Then he does something with the bat again and he will survive.

With the ball....averages 40 odd in Test cricket. Not good enough.

Marsh should not be in the Australian Test team. At. All.

ODIs and T20s - that's fine. He can be in the Australian team for white ball cricket.

But Test cricket....in my opinion....its a no.

Operation destroy the Scorchers begins I see. Happy for Jhye though, Bartlett probably a bit stiff to not get a look but he's a lesser red ball bowler than white ball.

I'd be gobsmacked if Richardson plays. In either game. Barring injury.

O'Neill I do get not being picked, it's clear there is a massive gap in Australia at the moment between Shield Batsmen and Test Batsmen ( Of all nations ) in ability. I wouldn't necessarily think his shield form will translate well. There's plenty ahead of him for a spot I'd reckon.

And the Copeland experiment didn't go real well for similar reasons IMO.
