Fair enough. Unless WC make him a Godfather offer though, I think he'll re-sign with us.

He is a beautiful kick as well. Once he feels a bit safer and more at home he will go for passes with a higher degree of difficulty, which makes Brown's kicking quite amazing. He's been there 5 minutes.
Agreed, having a KPB that can kick like that provided an additional outlet kick many teams dont have.

I'd like to see him taking some big intercept and contested marks now.
Flossy absolutely crucified one on Sunday. Benjamin had it covered and flossy came over the top in his face, dropped it and they got an easy goal. Flossy and him didn’t talk , but Benjamin was facing the footy and it was all his. Just no gel yet with the inexperienced guys yet and they were under the pump with so many bombs coming down. Hopefully they address that this week by backing the the younger guys in as it was an unnecessary gift to them. Flossy does get a let off though as his commitment and heart is second to none.

Miller has been a slow burn but not his fault , He has been played in just about every role possible

About time they gave this bloke a decent chance to establish himself in a set position to develop and grow in a role
Was my bitch on this for two seasons. Developed as a Bachman early on , but bc of injuries he was thrown around everywhere to fill voids and then everyone expected miracles and of course the delist word appeared.

Yep we need to get back into overdrive turning forwards and mids into backmen. As your spelling of backman hints, we need to get back into backman turner overdrive mode. :)

Let’s not forget he has a son

Must keep
Better give him a 4 year deal ... because that is what it will take to get him to 100 games

Was actually good to see him show some campaigner to be honest.

That's what's missing from this guy from Kalgoorlie. freaking Kal, I worked there a few times and I expected a fair bit of agro form him. Sweet as a peach pie, until now.

Add that aggression and we have a genuine player.

Yep, full back 101. You start from a position of what your opponent might least like to have perpetrated on him and that is your baseline playing style. Beyond that there is still room for spontaneous psychotic behaviour where the opportunity arises. You speak very nicely and respectfully to him when the ball is at the other end then seek to physically destroy him in every contest, with the ball as your prime object, of course. Miller is starting to get it I feel. :)

I wonder if last year his lack aggression was discussed, and he has responded.

"Amidst" is a hugely over-used term these days, especially in clickbait headlines.

However, amidst the carnage that is our 2024 season, one player who is standing up better than ok is Ben Miller. So it is time to shine the spotlight on our full back who is quietly building a very tidy season.

Of AFL key defenders who have played more than 1 game in 2024, Miller is the 9th highest rated, equal with Sam Taylor. In Brisbane's goal avalanche against us on the weekend, Miller's opponent was Hipwood, who kicked just 1 goal.

Why exactly is Miller rating so well in 2024?

These are areas he is showing up well in his cohort of 66 AFL key defenders:

  • Disposal efficiency ranked 19th which is decent given our lack of targets and generally disorganised and ever-changing line-ups
  • =21st for disposals per clanger
  • 7th amongst players playing >2 games for disposals per turnover is excellent
  • 13th for score involvements
  • 3rd for defensive 1 v 1 contests. Ie the opposition are targetting his contest the 3rd most in the AFL
  • =6th for defensive 1 v 1 contest loss %
  • 21st for tackles
  • 6th for spoils
  • amongst players playing >2 games, 4th for 1%ers

So he is a safe pair of hands, both in defending an opponent and also with the ball in hand.

What we would like to see a bit more of:

  • 56th for contested possessions
  • 30th for contested marks
  • 28th for intercept marks
  • 36th score launches

So mainly it would be nice to see Miller start backing himself a bit more, and trying to win a few more contests rather than just not losing them(at which he is very good.) Also, start to intercept a bit more.

Miller looks big and strong now, he is fast, and has good skills. Just that bit more confidence into his game and he could move into that top echelon of key defenders in the AFL. What we don't know is how good he is at instructing team-mates etc, but he has seemed to be growing in confidence as a person in general from things I have seen.
