No one expects him to take heaps of wickets.

But you can't keep being selected if you aren't even contributing with overs to give the others a break.

It's known he can't back up bowling. Clearly managing his work loads. Fitness and injury issues. Speed is now dropping and that limits his chance to be a threat.

Anyone else would be an improvement.

If we lose the toss and have to bowl first, that's going to put enormous strain on Cummins, Lyon, Boland and Starc. If Marsh can't bowl (and - for the record - he's bowled 33 overs across four tests, more than half of those came in the First Test), then I'm not sure how he can possibly justify his spot in the team.

Have been camping since boxing day, out of reception, and only just got a bar now to see the result - my only question is, was this test really as good as I've heard? Is it the best test match played on home soil since the 70s?

Assist my ailing FOMO, but belated joy in watching all 5 days when I get back. Much obliged.

It was a clinker. Ive been thinking about what made it a classic

• The series was poised, either team winning would be massive, but a draw would still suffice.
• Huge crowds enhanced the spectacle. Indian fans showed up and made noise which created a pulsating atmosphere, with the Australian fans responding - the wickets late on day 3 were some enormous roars after a big partnership whittled away our lead
• Konstas lighting up the morning on day one with his electric batting
• Periods were batsman were able to plunder, but when wickets fell they would happen in clumps - so the game would tilt but never get away from either team
• The Tails wagging from both sides (first 3 innings) changed the game at a time where you expected things to be wrapped up. Day 4 epitomised this
• Bumrah continiung on with his one man domination with the ball
• It all being set up for day 5 with all 4 results a possibility - which was still the case at tea
• It reminded me of test cricket in the 90s. Played at a slower pace (the opposite of bazball), needing the full 5 days, waiting to see how the pitch played, good conditions for the ball and bat, what tactics would the teams take, how would they adjust, seeing the game tilt each session, to then see it all come together in an hour at the end of the day

It was a ripper of a test for sure

He should be dropped. He's not contributing with either bat or ball.

But assume he's flown to Sydney with the team so I'm guessing he will play.

The setting and context for it had a lot to do with that. Best test in Australia since the 70s is a stretch - you could make the argument that after the first half hour India were only level in the game at one point the entire match (when they had Australia 6-90 in their second innings): games like the Gilchrist/Langer Hobart test, the Adelaide 1-run test, ‘Amazing’ Adelaide (God I hate that cringeworthy term - I could see what was going to happen a mile away), and probably others I’m missing - maybe even the Adelaide test where Kohli hit the two centuries and looked like getting them home on day 5 before they lost, the Gabba game where Pant got India home, Boxing Day where Dale Steyn ripped the game apart with bat and ball.

There’s been plenty that were probably as good or better as ‘games’ but yeah the context and atmosphere of this match made it stand out and probably the fallibility of both sides enhanced it a bit too

I'm still marvelling at both catches by Smith. The reactions needed for the catch off Lyon is something else.
Diving forward late in the game with the test on the line to dismiss Bumrah is out of this world clutch.

Chance of rain predicted last day - 70% of up to 15mm. So yes will probably be wet and the chance of rain on the 2nd last day is 40% but only up to 1mm so if that holds true that day should be virtually unaffected. The other day is only showing as a 10% chance of any rain.
