Regardless of the result, Australia top order needs a massive overhaul. Khawaja needs a tap on the shoulder today telling him this is his last innings. Labuschagne not far off being his last as well. A lot of hype with Konstas, but looks quite immature at this level. Smith has earned another summer.
The lack of openers making a case is a thing, and he may be better than most Australians on slower decks in SL and WI. I can see him going to SL, then being replaced if somebody piles on runs in the final Shield games.
Lab has got enough 60s over the series to retain a spot, again given a lack of #3 options as well.

Nobody is really in form, maybe Head despite today, but the options aren't exactly putting forward compelling cases either.
By Sydney next summer - even the WI series - the top six may look very different (a fit Green comes in for somebody, presumably Webster).

This curator has a lot to answer for.

All he needed to do was to prepare a road and cut all the grass off the wicket.

Can you imagine what the curator would have done in the final test in India if they were leading the series?

Lol Head - he is either utterly $hit or utterly brilliant, never an in between
All comes down to his technique being terrible. If he gets his eye in he scores a heap but good bowling will get him.

It’s a big change from the start where he was guaranteed to score a quick 30-40 before throwing it away. Teams have worked out where to bowl to him.

Nah, labs has been ****in horrible. Avging 28 for the series is not good enough.

Australia has 3 people avging 40 or more.....Carey on 31 Smith on 41 and Head on 51. Not counting Konstas

Everyone else is 28 or lower.

There is zero doubt about it that our batting is horrendous, and has been that way for years now.
Coming up to 50 test innings without a hundred from labs … that’s woeful for a Aussie number three

3 day test coming up? It's not going to get much easier. Wicket so green the ball stays close to new for 3x longer
Also the odd crack/imperfection which is making the bounce much more variable. Even at its flattest and tame tomorrow it will still be difficult.

In the end, India made the right call at the toss to give themselves the best chance to win. It was just a decision very few captains would want to be responsible for making

That’s all well and good, but I don’t think we have much better in the state league at the moment

I still reckon curators haven't allowed for the "new" Kookaburra cricket ball with its stronger seam.

It's been clear that these balls all series are continuing to seam around much longer than in previous years, almost certainly due to the stronger seam which means it continues to deflect of it when it hits the pitch.

Yes, why don't our curators look after us like other countries do for their's.

I will give Sam the benefit of the doubt and say his plan was to go aggresive and play ramps against Bumrah because he's just been too good currently and nothing else seemed to be working.

He needed to reign it in against Siraj though. I think he's a player, just needs to settle. He's clearly talented. Will most likely get dropped at least once in his career, but what talented young opener doesn't.

I also think as it stands his score is a pass given the state of the game and the pitch. Wouldn't say he did his job though.
