It'll come down to runs. He really didn't do anything offensive other than being relaxed and carefree when he was expected to be overawed and getting more adulation than one innings really warranted - I think it's that combination that riled India. Jaiswal showed more signs of being a brash young punk if you ask me, but he's also already one of the best batsmen in the world, so it's all good and we can just saviour his artistry with the bat.

I agree. Sarwan did nothing wrong. In the context of the times, Mcgrath didn't really either - that was how Australia played cricket - we weren't polite and homophobic slurs were standard.

Physically attacking? Talk of assault laws - some of the comments around this are getting ridiculous. Kohli should have copped a game suspension, but it was far from a physical attack. Kohli DID make deliberate, unwanted and aggressive contact with Konstas.

No-one is saying he should be charged. Just pointing out that, by definition, he DID assault Konstas.

In all of this discussion, I think the fact that Konstas is 19 is irrelevant to both sides of the conversation.

A 19yo shouldn’t be so “cocky”, hasn’t earned his stripes, etc. He’s playing in an open age competition, he has every right to be there, act like any other player and be treated like any other.

* I do understand the POV that Kohli likely wouldn’t have done this to a more senior member of the team, I just think the age of the victim doesn’t make what Kohli did any more/less right or wrong.

Stop the presses. Cricketer being a smartarse on field. The only thing to actually stop the presses about it is that Mark Waugh and Ricky Ponting didn't approve of a cricketer being a smartarse onfield...

I respect their opinions, but Bumrah is a god - everyone loves him - if he's cracked the shits, the assumption is always going to be that it's the other guys fault.

But let's look at how this played out:

In his first innings Konstas played some audacious shots and took Bumrah down in his opening spell. The whole slips cordon where chirping hard to heap on the pressure - including Jaiswal. Kohli took it up a notch and bizarrely made the decision to bump into him.

After his innings, Konstas takes selfies with the crowd and gets crazy positivity from the crowd and both Australian and Indian cricket media. Then when fielding plays up to the crowd waving his hands upwards. At this stage he hasn't fielded at silly mid off and hasn't chirped at all - except for whatever he said when Kohli bumped into him.

Second innings, Bumrah bowls him through the gate with a ripper and celebrated the wicket by mimicing and taking the piss out of Konstas by waving his arms to the crowd. At this stage, it's pretty clear the Indian team can't stand him. But has he done anything wrong? India made a judgement call on some young kid playing some audacious shots, stuffing around with the crowd and receiving adulation and had him in their sights.

Then in India's second innings, Konstas is moved to silly mid off and starts chirping. They went to stump mic on the commentary and he wasn't saying anything that Labuschange and Carey weren't saying. Jaiswal, a young player who chirps both in the field and even chirped whilst batting, loses it at him and then plays a couple of stupid shots because he was trying to smash the ball into Konstas at silly mid off.

Final incident with Bumrah, Konstas says not much at all, Bumrah cracks the shit.

You can try to portray Konstas as having behaved badly - but he really didn't. India just took a dislike to him and I'd suggest it was for some pretty petty judgemental reasons.

This is a great summary. With the reaction you'd think he'd actually started smashing down the stumps with his cricket bat out on field or something - the only even slightly questionable thing he did was say 'he's not ready mate' to delay a couple seconds in a last over scenario. Anyone else does that everyone just jogs on - non issue.

I think Jaiswal did too. He was batting beautifully and a kid he didn't like moved to silly mid off and said the same sort of stuff that gets said in every other game and was being said by two other Aussies and he started playing shit shots in an attempt to smash a cricket ball into the kid he didn't like. It was pretty poor.
