loved that forward pressure

kudos to Brad Scott. Read this game well. Voss said post-loss last week "we are too tight", so the early hint was that Carlton would play fast and loose.

Scott countered by playing low tempo footy in the first half, which needed a long, direct kicking game so that the defence could be set up behind the ball for quick entries. Hence why he continued his craftiness by bringing in Phillips as a "late change" when he was always going to play him. Scott's priority was to asborb pressure and minimise fuel tickets used. We only had 1 contested mark, so I wouldn't say it went as well as it could've but we kept an even keel.

As Scott said at his post-game presser, "we expected the game to open up in the second half". That's because when a team like Carlton which have been used to playing "too slow and safe" (Voss) suddenly switches to full afterburners from the opening bounce, it doesn't know how to manage its legs. When Essendon pulled the trigger in the 3rd quarter with fresh legs, Carlton couldn't keep up. And the game was done. Checkmate Scott. 👏👏

Not salty at all. Not like they played Collingwood, Port or Melbourne today. Just saying.

You mean a team that we beat, a team that we lost to by less than a kick, and a team that also beat us by a kick.

We haven't lowered our colours often this season, which is progress.

Yep! I don't think people know how close we have been. Ridley plays out the Port game and we win. Merrett plays the Pies game, we probably win.

Don't get me wrong, any team has coulda shoulda woulda wins.... but the above just goes to show how close we have been in games that you would have expected clear losses. Change 2 of the above and we're top 4.
