It probably did, but it didn't decide the result. We kicked another goal.

This was the tackle seconds prior to the Yeo holding the ball.

Last time I looked hand over the shoulder and contact to the head is a high free.

Let’s not be sensible though and let’s rage on that the second umpiring mistake is what cost the Eagles the game.

We’ve been so heavily conditioned by AFL media that the umpires are holier than thou, and above question or suspicion (despite one being convicted for corruption in recent times).

Obviously the argument is we have to respect AFL umpires to ensure lower level ones are not abused (ironically, that free kick is NEVER being paid at any other level)

But this is a professional sport and billion dollar industry - why can’t the integrity and professionalism of the umpires be questioned?

You could survey 1000 AFL mad neutrals, players and former players, and quite genuinely, not a SINGLE ONE is paying that free, that far off the ball.

So how is it we have an umpire doing just that, especially in that situation?

Have we “allowed” umpires to feel bigger than the game by the inability to even question them? Or can we at least open our minds to the possibility that perhaps the umpires sons favourite team is the Saints? Or maybe he too looked to make a few bucks from his decision?

AFL love controlling the narrative, but time should be up for the used car dealer looking Dillon and Yes Woman Kane

We can all debate about whether #VICBIAS exists, but rest assured there would be hangings in the town square tomorrow if there were 3 games today all won by non Vic teams due to contentious decisions. But these will get ticked off as correct, swept under the carpet as usual.

I think I’ll take the vic teams supporters advice and quit this corrupt comp, leave it to the happy clappers, go back to watching ammos or something. You win football, congrats.
Exactly right. This will all be glossed over, but if the shoe was on the other foot.

All three games today decided by very poor umpiring decisions. All in favour of the Victorian teams. The free kick to King was by far the biggest load of shit free kick this year.

"it will slow the game down too much"

Challenge system - 1 per game, use it and lose it if it's wrong. That will mean teams wont use it until 4th quarter and maybe not at all if game isn't close
Problem is they would say they are ‘technically there’ so decisions would not change. Of. Course ignoring the fact 100 of similar actions are ignored throughout the rest of the game. Why can’t umpires just put the whistle away unless there is something 100% obvious to pay

Umpires are just failed players who see this as their shot to influence a sporting contest!

The Saints are a total conundrum to me. The workrate was first class, absolutely worked their butts off all night. But then, it's hard to imagine a team missing more targets than they did, especially those critical ones, which may not have been recorded as turnovers, but they had it in transition, open forward line and they just missed hitting a link in the chain so he didn't get it in stride, it slowed them down by a second or two while the player collected the bouncing ball and it all came unglued from there.

It makes you wonder why they persist with this gamestyle, if their skills as a collective, are mediocre. Seems like a prime team to get absolutely slaughtered on goals from turnovers, which again is probably where you have to credit their workrate.

Based on that still image there's no free kick for high mate...

But teams would also 100% use it in time on of the last quarter as a stalling tactic if they were hanging on to a narrow lead. It would happen every single game, unless the margin was 5+ goals.
